Installing the SIM card and the handset batteryMake sure the power is off before you remove thebattery.1. Remove the battery.Press and hold downthe battery releasebutton and slide thebattery down.2. Install the SIM cardInsert the SIM card into the holder. Slide the SIMcard into the SIM card holder. Make sure that theSIM card is inserted properly and that the goldcontact area on the card is facing downwards. Toremove the SIM card, press down lightly and pull itin the reverse direction.Installation16InstallationCaution]The metal contact of the SIM card can be easilydamaged by scratches. Pay special attention to theSIM card while handling. Follow the instructionssupplied with the SIM card.

The T9 mode automatically comparesyour keystrokes with an internal linguistic dictionaryto determine the correct word, thus requiring farfewer keystrokes than the traditional ABC mode.ABC modeThis mode allows you to enter letters by pressing thekey labeled with the required letter once, twice, threeor four times until the letter is displayed.123 mode (Number mode)Type numbers using one keystroke per number. These functions are arranged inmenus and sub-menus, accessed via the two soft keysmarked [ ] and [ ]. Each menu and sub-menu lets you view and alter the settings of aparticular function.The roles of the soft keys vary according to the currentcontext; the label on the bottom line of the screen justabove each key indicates its current role.
In-call menu25In-call menuYour phone provides a number of control functionsthat you can use during a call. To access thesefunctions during a call, press the left soft key [Options].During a callThe menu displayed on the handset screen during acall is different to the default main menu displayedwhen in standby mode, and the options aredescribed below.Making a Second Call (Network Dependent)You can get a number you wish to dial from thephonebook to make a second call. Switching between two callsTo switch between two calls, press  key or theleft soft key, and then select Swap Call.Answering an incoming callTo answer an incoming call when the handset isringing, simply press the  key. The handset isalso able to warn you of an incoming call while youare already on a call. A tone sounds in the earpiece,and the display will show that a second call is waiting.This feature, known as Call waiting, is only available ifyour network supports it. For details of how toactivate and deactivate it see Call waiting (Menu #-3-4, see p. 82) If Call Waiting is on, you can put the first call on holdand answer the second, by pressing the left soft key.Rejecting an incoming callYou can reject an incoming call without answering bysimply pressing the  key. During a call, you can reject an incoming call bypressing the  key.Muting the microphoneYou can mute the microphone during a call bypressing the [Mute] key. The handset can beunmuted by pressing the [Unmute]. When thehandset is muted, the caller cannot hear you, but youcan still hear them.
In-call menu26In-call menuDTMF tones while callingTo switch on DTMF tones while calling (e.g. to usethe phone with an automatic switchboard) press thekey [Options] followed by Send DTMF on. SelectDTMF off to disable DTMF tones. DTMF tones arenormally onConference CallsThe conference service provides you with the abilityto have a simultaneous conversation with more thanone caller, if your network service provider supportsthis feature. A conference call can only be set upwhen you have one active call and one call on hold,both calls having been answered. Once a conference call is set up, calls may be added,disconnected or separated (that is, removed from theconference call but still connected to you) by theperson who set up the conference call. These optionsare all available from the In-Call menu. The maximumcallers in a conference call are five. Once started, youare in control of the conference call, and only youcan add calls to the conference call.Making a second callYou can make a second call while currently on a call.Enter the second number and press the  . Whenthe second call is connected, the first call isautomatically placed on hold. You can swap betweencalls, by pressing the  key.Setting up a conference callTo set up a conference call, place one call on holdand while the active call is on, press the left soft keyand then select the Join menu of Conference call.Activate the conference call on holdTo activate a conference call on hold, press the S key.Alternatively press the left soft key [Options] andselect Join all/Hold all calls. Other users on hold willstay connected. To return to conference call mode,press the left soft key < [Options] followed byConference call.
27In-call menuAdding calls to the conference callTo add a call to an existing conference call, press theleft soft key, and then select the Join menu ofConference call.Private Call in a Conference CallTo have a private call with one caller from aconference call, display the number of the caller youwish to talk to on the screen, then press the left softkey. Select the Private menu of Conference call to putall the other callers on hold.Ending a conference callCurrently displayed caller from a conference call canbe disconnected by pressing the  key.
