This equipment should be installed inaccordance with the National Fire ProtectionAssociations (NFPA) Standard 72. See Figure 2.A-8-1.2.1.C Are More Smoke Alarms Desirable? The required number of smoke alarms might not providereliable early warning protection for those areas sepa-rated by a door from the areas protected by the requiredsmoke alarms. For this reason, it is recommended thatthe householder consider the use of additional smokealarms for those areas for increased protection. Theadditional areas include the basement, bedrooms, diningroom, furnace room, utility room, and hallways notprotected by the required smoke alarms. The installationof smoke alarms in kitchens, attics (finished or unfin-ished), or garages is not normally recommended, as theselocations occasionally experience conditions that canresult in improper operation.Important: Regulations pertaining to smoke alarminstallations vary from state to state. For more informa-tion, contact your local fire department or local authorityhaving jurisdiction.ESL 560 Series3V Standalone Smoke AlarmInstallation InstructionsTV RoomDiningRoom Kitchen BedroomBedroomBedroomLiving Room= Required smoke alarmsDining RoomBasementBedroom BedroomLiving Room= Additional smoke alarms required for new constructionFigure 2 - Smoke Alarm Placement LEDTest/Silence buttonSounder vent Optional temperature sensorFigure 1 - Smoke Alarm FeaturesULLISTEDCSFM
