ChuteClean-out Tool
Achuteclean-outtool is fastenedto the top of the
augerhousingwitha mountingclip. Thetool is designed
to cleara chuteassemblyof ice andsnow.
Thisitemis fastenedwitha cabletie at the factory.Cut
the cabletie beforeoperatingthe snowthrower.

hands to clear aclogged chute
assembly. Shut off engine and
remain behind handles until
all moving parts have stopped
before using the clean-out tool
to clear the chute assembly.

Thoroughlyinspectthe areawherethe equipmentis to be
used. Removeall doormats,newspapers,sleds,boards,
wiresand otherforeignobjects,whichcouldbetripped over
orthrownbythe auger/impeller.
Alwayswearsafetyglassesor eye shieldsduringoperation
andwhile performinganadjustmentorrepairto protectyour
eyes.Thrownobjectswhich ricochetcan cause serious
injuryto the eyes.
Do notoperatewithoutwearingadequatewinterouter
garments.Do notwearjewelry,longscarvesorother
looseclothing,whichcould becomeentangledin moving
parts.Wearfootwearwhich willimprovefootingon slippery
surfaces.
Usea groundedthree-wireextensioncordand receptacle
forall units withelectric startengines.
Adjustcollectorhousingheight to cleargravel orcrushed
rocksurfaces.
Disengageallcontrolleversbeforestartingthe engine.
Neverattemptto makeanyadjustmentswhileengineis
running,exceptwherespecificallyrecommendedinthe

there is an openflame, sparkor pilot light (e.g.furnace,

Operation
1. Donot puthands orfeet nearrotatingparts,inthe
auger/impellerhousingor chuteassembly.Contactwiththe
rotatingpartscanamputatehandsandfeet.
2. The auger/impellercontrolleveris a safetydevice.Never
bypassitsoperation.Doingso makesthe machineunsafe
and maycausepersonalinjury.
3. The controlleversmustoperateeasilyin bothdirections
and automaticallyreturnto the disengagedpositionwhen
released.
4. Neveroperatewitha missingor damagedchuteassembly.
Keepall safetydevicesin placeandworking.
5. Neverrunan engineindoorsor in a poorlyventilatedarea.
Engineexhaustcontainscarbonmonoxide,anodorlessand
deadly gas.
6. Donotoperatemachinewhile underthe influenceof alcohol
or drugs.
7. Mufflerandenginebecomehotandcan causea burn.Do
nottouch.
8. Exerciseextremecaution whenoperatingonor crossing

Alwaysbe sure of yourfootingand keepa firm holdon the
handles.Walk,neverrun.
14.Disengagepowerto the auger/impellerwhentransportingor
notin use.
15.Neveroperatemachineat hightransport speedsonslippery
surfaces. Lookdownand behindand usecare when
backingup.
16.Ifthe machineshouldstartto vibrateabnormally,stopthe
engine,disconnectthe sparkplugwire and groundit against
the engine.Inspectthoroughlyfor damage.Repairany
damagebeforestartingandoperating.
17.Disengageallcontrolleversandstopenginebeforeyou
leavethe operatingposition (behindthe handles).Wait
untilthe auger/impellercomesto a completestop before
uncloggingthe chuteassembly,makinganyadjustments,or
inspections.
18.Neverputyourhand in thedischargeor collectoropenings.
Alwaysuse the clean-outtoolprovidedto unclogthe dis-
charge opening.Donot unclogchuteassemblywhileengine
isrunning.Shut offengineand remainbehindhandlesuntil
all movingparts havestoppedbefore unclogging.
19.Useonly attachmentsandaccessoriesapprovedbythe
manufacturer(e.g.wheelweights,tire chains,cabsetc.).

Maintenance & Storage
1. Nevertamperwithsafetydevices.Checktheir proper
operationregularly.Referto the maintenanceandadjust-
mentsectionsof this manual.
2. Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspectingmachinedisen-
gageall controlleversandstopthe engine.Wait untilthe
auger/impellercometo a completestop. Disconnectthe
sparkplugwire and groundagainstthe engineto prevent
unintendedstarting.
3. Checkbolts and screwsfor propertightnessat frequent
intervalsto keepthe machinein safeworkingcondition.
Also,visuallyinspectmachinefor anydamage.
4. Do notchangethe enginegovernorsettingor over-speed
theengine.The governorcontrolsthemaximumsafe
operatingspeed of theengine.
5. Snowthrowershaveplatesand skidshoesare subjectto
wearanddamage.Foryoursafetyprotection,frequently
checkallcomponentsand replacewith originalequipment
manufacturer's(OEM) partsonly."Useof partswhich do
notmeetthe originalequipmentspecificationsmayleadto
improperperformanceandcompromisesafety!"
6. Checkcontrols periodicallyto verify theyengageand
disengageproperlyandadjust, if necessary.Referto the
adjustmentsection inthis operator'smanualfor instructions.
7. Maintainor replacesafetyandinstructionlabels,as neces-
sary.
8. Observeproperdisposallawsandregulationsfor gas,oil,
etc. to protectthe environment.
9. Priorto storing,run machinea few minutestoclearsnow
frommachineand preventfreezeup of auger/impeller.
10.Neverstorethe machineorfuel containerinsidewhere

heater,furnace,clothesdryeretc.

Do not modify engine
Toavoidseriousinjuryordeath,do not modifyengineinany
way.Tamperingwiththegovernorsettingcan leadto a runaway
engineandcauseit to operateat unsafespeeds.Nevertamper
withfactorysettingof enginegovernor.

Engineswhichare certifiedto complywithCaliforniaandfederal
EPAemissionregulationsfor SORE(SmallOff RoadEquipment)
arecertifiedto operateon regularunleadedgasoline,and may

Removing From Carton
1. Cutthe cornersof thecartonandlay the sidesfiaton
the ground. Removeall packinginserts.
2. Theupperhandleispackagedunattachedto the
snowthrower,thoughconnectedby canes. Move
the snowthrowerandupperhandleout of the carton.
3. Makecertainthecartonhas beencompletely
emptiedbeforediscardingit.
Before Assembly

wire and Ground it againstthe engine
to preventunintended starting.
NOTE:Referenceto right,left,frontor rearofthe unitis
fromtheoperatingpositionunlessotherwisestated.
Setting Up The Handle
1. Loosenand removethewing knob,saddlewasher,
handletab andcarriagescrewoneach sideof the
lowerhandle.SeeFigure1.
2. Liftthe upperhandleupandpositionit overthe
lowerhandle,aligningthe holeswherethe wing
knobswere removed.SeeStep 1inFigure2.
CAUTION:Be careful not to bend or kink the cables.

Inserta carriagescrewfromtheoutsidethrougha
handletab,theupperandlowerhandles,a saddle
washerandintothe wingknob. Repeatonotherside.
Tightenthewingknobsoneachsideofthe handle.
Referto Step2 inFigure2.
Loosenthe chuteknobonthe upperchute(l) and
pivotthe upperchuteupwards(2)as faras it willgo.

7. Rotatechutehandleto desiredoperatingposition.

8. Tightenthechutewingknobon the upperchute
makingsurethe flatwasherandthe carriagebolt are
correctlypositioned.

Clean-Out Tool
Thistool,andthe electricextensioncord,maybe
fastenedwithacable tie to the rearof theaugerhousing
for shippingpurposes.In thatcase,cutthe cabletie and
removethe extensioncordnow.
Final Adjustments
IMPORTANT:Checktheadjustmentsas instructedand
makeany finaladjustmentsnecessarybeforeoperating
the unit.Checkall nutsandboltsfor tightness.Failureto
followtheseinstructionsmaycausedamageto unit.

Skid Shoe
Thespacebetweentheshaveplateandthegroundcanbe
adjusted.Referto Figure6forlocationdshaveplateandskid
shoes.Forclosesnowremoval,placeskidshoesinthelow
position.Whentheareatobeclearedisuneven,placeskid
shoesinthemiddleorhighposition.SeeFigure4.
NOTE:Operationof thissnowthrowerongravelis not
recommendedas loosegravelcanbeeasilypicked
upandthrownbythe augercausingpersonalinjuryor
damageto the snowthrower.If youhaveto operateit on
gravel,keepskidshoeinhighestpositionfor maximum
clearance.
1. Adjustskidshoesbylooseningtwohexnutsand
carriageboltsoneachskidshoe,andmoveskidshoe
tothedesiredposition.SeeFigure4.
2. Makecertainthe entirebottomsurfaceof skidshoe
is againstthe groundto avoidunevenwearonthe
skidshoes.
3. Tightennutsandboltssecurely.
Routing The Drive Cable
1. Thedrivecable,andaugercable routedownthrough
the speedcontrolboxonthe leftsideof the handle.
Theaugercable,andspeedcontrolcablethen route
downthe leftlowerhandle. The drivecable isrouted
acrossthe top of the lowerhandleandfinallydown
the rightlowerhandle. SeeFigure5.
.Threecabletieshavebeenusedtolooselytiethe two
controlcablestothe lowerhandle.Twoof thesecable
tiesareoneacharm,andthirdonthetop crossbarof
thelowerhandle.Tightenthesecabletiesto secure
cablesto the lowerhandle.SeeFigure5.
Auger Control Test
IMPORTANT:Performthe followingtest beforeoperat-
ingthe snowthrowerfor the firsttimeandat the start of
eachwinterseason.
Checkthe adjustmentof the augercontrolasfollows:
1. Whenaugercontrolis releasedand inthe disen-
gaged"up"position,cable shouldhaveverylittle
slack,butshouldNOTbetight.
WARNING:Do notover-tighten the
cable.Over-tightening may prevent the
auger from disengagingand compro-
misethe safetyof the snowthrower.
2. In a well-ventilatedarea,start the snowthrower
engineas instructedon page10underthe heading
"ToStartEngine."Makesurethe throttleis setin the
FASTposition.
3. Whilestandinginoperator'sposition(behindunit)
engageauger.
4. Allowaugerto remainengagedfor approximately
ten (10)secondsbeforereleasingthe augercontrol.
Repeatthisseveraltimes.
5. Withtheenginerunninginthe FASTpositionandthe
augercontrolinthe disengaged"up"position,walk
to the frontof the machine.
6. Confirmthatthe augerhas completelystopped
rotatingandshowsNOsignsof motion.
IMPORTANT:IftheaugershowsANYsignsof rotating,im-
mediatelyreturntotheoperator'spositionandshutoffthe
engine.Waitforallmovingpartsto stopbeforereadjusting
theaugercontrolcableas shownonpage14.

Drive Control
Locatedon the undersideof the upperhandle,the drive
controlis usedto engage/disengagewheels.Squeeze
the drivecontrolagainstthe upperhandleto engagethe
wheels;releaseto disengage.
Auger Control
Theaugercontrolis adjacentto the upperhandle.
Squeezethe augercontrolagainstthe upperhandleto
engagetheaugers;releaseto disengagetheaugers.

the chute assembly unless both auger
and drive controlsare disengaged and
the operator isstanding beside the unit.

Chute Handle
Thedirectionof snowthrowingcorrespondsto the
directionof the chuteopening.Usethe chutehandle
to turnthe chuteassemblyinthe directionyou wishto
throwthe snow.
Chute Knob
Thedistancesnowis throwncan beadjustedby either
raisingorloweringthe upperchute.Loosenthe chute
knobon theside of the upperchuteto adjust.Pivotthe
upperchuteto desiredposition,and retightenthe chute
knob.
Speed Selection Lever
Yoursnowthroweris equippedwitha3-speedpower
propelleddrive system.The speedis controlledby this
speedselectionlever,locatedonthe left sideof the
upperhandle. Threespeedsareprovided.Withthe lever
allthe waydown,towardsthe engine,speed 1is your
slowestspeed.
IMPORTANT:Toshift gears,the unit mustberunning
andthe drivecontrolmustbe released.
Shave Plate
Theshaveplate maintainscontactwithpavementas
the snowthroweris propelled,allowingsnowcloseto
pavement'ssurfaceto bedischarged.
Skid Shoe
Thespacebetweenthe shaveplateandthe groundcan

Clearing The Snow

frontof the unit,squeezethe augercontrolcom-
pletelyagainstthe upperhandleto fullyengagethe
augers.
5. Whilethe augercontrolisengaged,squeezethedrive
controlcompletelyagainstthe upperhandleto engage
thewheels.Donot"feather"thedrivecontrol.
6. As the snowthrowerstartsto move,maintaina firm
holdonthe handle,andguidethe snowthrower
alongthe pathto becleared.
7. Releasethe augeranddrive controlsto stopthe
snowthrowingactionandforwardmotion.
NOTE:Yourunit isequippedwithaclutch inthe
transmission.If the wheelsstopturningwhiletryingto
dischargelargevolumesof snow,immediatelydisen-
gagethe drivecontrolandallow the rotatingaugersto
dischargesnowfromthe housing.Reducethe clearing
widthandcontinueoperation.
8. Oneach succeedingpass,readjustthe chute
assemblyto the desiredpositionand slightlyoverlap
the previouslyclearedpath.
