WarningsSterile field—Avoid using the device in asterile field. If it is necessary, place thedevice into a sterile bag or use a sterilebarrier. The device is not sterile and cannotbe sterilized. Failure to use a sterile bag orbarrier may cause an infection. Wound contact—Do not use the device onan unhealed wound. Package contentsThe Medtronic Model TM90 Communicatorpackage contains the following parts: •Model TM90 Communicator•Product literatureThe USB charging cable and AC adaptor areincluded in the handset package. Use thiscable or another USB 2.0 compliant cable tocharge the device.How the communicator worksThe communicator acts as a wireless "bridge"between the app installed on the handset,and the implanted medical device. Theimplanted device only acceptscommunications from the app through thecommunicator.Sending information between the app andimplanted device, through the communicator,will only occur after the app andcommunicator have been "paired". Charging the deviceBattery indicator (yellow)The battery indicator turns yellow when the battery has a low charge.The communicator will not connect to the implanted device while it is charging.Figure 2.5 Low batteryA yellow battery indicator light means that it istime to charge the communicator. For best results, charge the communicatorovernight, so it is fully charged and ready foruse at the beginning of the day.Battery indicator (orange)The battery indicator turns orange when the battery is charging.USB charging cableInsert the USB charging cable into the communicator charging port. Connect the AC adaptor on the other end to a power source or wall outlet.Figure 2.6 Charging the batteryWhile charging, the device will turn off after3 minutes, if it is not communicating with thehandset. A green battery indicator light means that thecommunicator is fully charged, and ready foruse. The battery indicator turns green when fully charged. This chapter provides information ontroubleshooting, electromagnetic interference(EMI), and care for the communicator device.This chapter also provides specifications, andinformation on who to call for assistance.TroubleshootingWhile charging, the communicator will notconnect to the implanted medical device.Use of the communicator is specific to themedical device. Device careFollow these guidelines to ensure that thecommunicator operates properly. •Charge the communicator at least every 6months, even if it is not in use, to ensurethe battery maintains power.•Clean the communicator with a dampcloth or sponge. Mild household ormedical cleaners will not damage thedevice.•Clinicians should clean the devicebetween uses on different patients.•Keep the device and USB charging cableout of the reach of children and pets. •Follow all warnings and the precaution inthis manual.•Handle the device with care.
