Introduction You can connect the Nokia Wireless Headset (HS-26W) to a compatible phone that supports Bluetooth wireless technology. This allows you freedom to make and receive calls while on the move or in the office. Read this user guide carefully before using the headset. Read also the user guide for your phone, which provides important safety and maintenance information. Keep the headset out of reach of small children. ■ Bluetooth wireless technology Bluetooth wireless technology makes it possible to connect compatible communication devices without using cables. A Bluetooth connection does not require that the phone and the headset be in line of sight, but both devices should be within 10 meters (30 feet) of each other. Connections can be subject to interference from obstructions, such as walls or other electronic devices. The wireless headset is compliant with Bluetooth Specification 2.0 supporting the following profiles: Headset Profile 1.1 and Hands-free Profile 1.0. Check with the manufacturers of other devices to determine their compatibility with this device. There may be restrictions on using Bluetooth technology in some locations. Check with your local authorities or service provider. 9240373_en1.fm Page 5 Thursday, June 30, 2005 8:21 AM Get started 2. Metallic materials may be attracted to the headset, and persons with a hearing aid should not hold the headset to the ear with the hearing aid. Do not place credit cards or other magnetic storage media near the headset, because information stored on them may be erased. ■ Chargers and batteries Check the model number of any charger before using it with this device. The Nokia Wireless Headset (HS-26W) is intended for use with the AC-3, AC-4, and DC-4 chargers. Warning: Use only batteries and chargers approved by Nokia for use with this particular enhancement. The use of any other types may invalidate any approval or warranty, and may be dangerous. For availability of approved enhancements, please check with your dealer. When you disconnect the power cord of any enhancement, grasp and pull the plug, not the cord. ■ Charge the battery This device has an internal, non-removable, rechargeable battery. Do not attempt to remove the battery from the device as you may damage the device. 1. Connect the charger cable to the headset as shown in the figure. 2. Connect the charger to a wall outlet. The red indicator light is displayed during charging. Charging the battery fully may take up to 2 hours. 3. When the battery is fully charged, the green indicator light is displayed. Disconnect the charger from the wall outlet and the headset. The fully charged battery has power for up to 5 hours of talk-time or up to 150 hours of standby time. However, the talk and standby times may vary when used with different mobile phones, products that use a Bluetooth connection, usage settings, usage styles, and environments. 9240373_en1.fm Page 7 Thursday, June 30, 2005 8:21 AM Get started When the battery is running out of power, the headset beeps, and the red indicator light starts to flash. ■ Switch the headset on or off To switch on, press the power key for 3 seconds. The headset beeps, and the green indicator light starts to flash quickly. The flashing is slower after the headset is connected to your phone. To switch off, press and hold the power key for 2 seconds. The headset beeps, and the red indicator light is displayed briefly. ■ Pair the headset with a compatible phone 1. Switch on your phone and the headset. 2. Activate the Bluetooth feature on the phone, and set the phone to search for Bluetooth devices. See the user guide of your phone for instructions. 3. Select the headset (Nokia HS-26W) from the list of found devices. 4. Enter the passcode 0000 to pair and connect the headset to your phone. In some phones you may need to make the connection separately after pairing. See the user guide of your phone for details. You only need to pair the headset with your phone once. 5. If the pairing was successful, the headset beeps and appears in the phone menu where you can view the currently paired Bluetooth devices. Disconnect the headset from the phone To disconnect the headset from your phone (for example, to connect the phone to another Bluetooth device), do one of the following: • Switch off the headset. • Disconnect the headset in the Bluetooth menu of your phone. • Move the headset more than 10 meters (30 feet) away from the phone. You do not need to delete the pairing with the headset to disconnect it. 9240373_en1.fm Page 8 Thursday, June 30, 2005 8:21 AM Get started Reconnect the paired headset to your phone To connect the headset to your phone, switch on the headset, make the connection in the Bluetooth menu of your phone, or press and hold the answer/end key. You can set your phone to connect with the headset automatically when the headset is switched on. To do this in Nokia phones, change your paired device settings in the Bluetooth menu. ■ Troubleshooting If you cannot connect the headset to your phone, do as follows: • Ensure that the headset is charged, switched on, paired with and connected to your phone. • Ensure that the Bluetooth feature is activated on your phone. • Check that the headset is within 10 meters (30 feet) of your phone and that there are no obstructions between the headset and the phone, such as walls or other electronic devices. • If the headset stops functioning, although it has been charged, reset the headset by pressing the power key and the middle part of the volume key briefly, while the headset is plugged into a charger. This reset does not clear your settings (for example, pairing settings). 9240373_en1.fm Page 9 Thursday, June 30, 2005 8:21 AM Basic use 3. Basic use ■ Place the headset on the ear Slide the headset onto your ear as shown in the figure.. ■ Call handling To make a call, use your phone in the normal way when the headset is connected to your phone. If your phone supports redialing, press the answer/end key twice briefly while no call is in progress. If your phone supports voice dialing, press and hold the answer/end key when no call is in progress, and proceed as described in the user guide of your phone. To answer a call, press the answer/end key, or use the phone keys. If the automatic answer function is set on in your phone, the phone automatically answers the incoming call after one ring. To reject an incoming call, briefly press the answer/end key twice. To end a call, press the answer/end key, or use the phone keys. 9240373_en1.fm Page 10 Thursday, June 30, 2005 8:21 AM Basic use ■ Adjust the earphone volume Press the volume key up to increase or down to decrease the volume during a call. To adjust the volume quickly, press and hold the key in the desired direction. ■ Mute or unmute the microphone To mute or unmute the microphone during a call, press the middle part of the volume key briefly. A long tone is played. When the microphone is muted, the green indicator light flashes continuously. ■ Switch the call between phone and headset To switch the call between the headset and a compatible Nokia phone, press and hold the answer/end key, or use the respective function in your phone. ■ Use the headset with several phones You can pair the headset with up to eight phones but connect it to only one phone at a time. The phone that was first paired with the headset is the default phone. If the headset is switched on within 10 meters (30 feet) of several paired phones, the headset tries to connect to the default phone. If the headset cannot connect to the default phone, the headset tries to connect to the last used phone. If the headset cannot connect to this phone either, start the connection from the desired phone. ■ Clear the settings If you want to clear all the settings from the headset (for example, the list of paired devices), press and hold the power key and the volume key up for 10 seconds. After the settings are cleared, the headset beeps twice, and the red and green indicator lights alternate for several seconds. 10 9240373_en1.fm Page 11 Thursday, June 30, 2005 8:21 AM Battery information 4. Battery information Your device is powered by a rechargeable battery. The full performance of a new battery is achieved only after two or three complete charge and discharge cycles. The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times, but it will eventually wear out. When the talk and standby times are noticeably shorter than normal, replace the battery. Use only Nokia approved batteries, and recharge your battery only with Nokia approved chargers designated for this device. Unplug the charger from the electrical plug and the device when not in use. Do not leave a fully charged battery connected to a charger, since overcharging may shorten its lifetime. If left unused, a fully charged battery will lose its charge over time. Use the battery only for its intended purpose. Never use any charger or battery that is damaged. Leaving the device in hot or cold places, such as in a closed car in summer or winter conditions, will reduce the capacity and lifetime of the battery. Always try to keep the battery between 15°C and 25°C (59°F and 77°F). A device with a hot or cold battery may not work temporarily, even when the battery is fully charged. Battery performance is particularly limited in temperatures well below freezing. Do not dispose of batteries in a fire as they may explode. Batteries may also explode if damaged. Dispose of batteries according to local regulations. Please recycle when possible. Do not dispose as household waste. 11 9240373_en1.fm Page 12 Thursday, June 30, 2005 8:21 AM Care and maintenance Care and maintenance Your device is a product of superior design and craftsmanship and should be treated with care. The suggestions below will help you protect your warranty coverage. • Keep all accessories and enhancements out of the reach of small children. • Keep the device dry. Precipitation, humidity, and all types of liquids or moisture can contain minerals that will corrode electronic circuits. If your device does get wet, allow the device to dry completely. • Do not use or store the device in dusty, dirty areas. Its moving parts and electronic components can be damaged. • Do not store the device in hot areas. High temperatures can shorten the life of electronic devices, damage batteries, and warp or melt certain plastics. • Do not store the device in cold areas. When the device returns to its normal temperature, moisture can form inside the device and damage electronic circuit boards. • Do not drop, knock, or shake the device. Rough handling can break internal circuit boards and fine mechanics. • Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the device. • Do not paint the device. Paint can clog the moving parts and prevent proper operation. All of the above suggestions apply equally to your device, battery, charger, or any enhancement. If any device is not working properly, take it to the nearest authorized service facility. 12 9240373_en1.fm Page 13 Thursday, June 30, 2005 8:21 AM FCC Notice - Nokia Wirelesss Headset (HS-26W) FCC Notice - Nokia Wirelesss Headset (HS-26W) This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules.
