Health WarningUse of a keyboard or pointing device may be linked to serious injuries or disorders. When using a computer, as with many activities, you may experience occasional discomfort in your hands, arms, shoulders, neck, or other parts of your body. However, if you experience symptoms such as persis-tent or recurring discomfort, pain, throbbing, aching, tingling, numbness, burning sensation, or stiffness,DO NOT IGNORE THESE WARNING SIGNS. PROMPTLY SEE A QUALIFIED HEALTH PROFESSIONAL, even ifsymptoms occur when you are not working at your computer. Symptoms such as these can be associatedwith painful and sometimes permanently disabling injuries or disorders of the nerves, muscles, tendons,or other parts of the body. These musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) include carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, tenosynovitis, and other conditions. While researchers are not yet able to answer many questions about MSDs, there is general agreementthat many factors may be linked to their occurrence, including: medical and physical conditions, stressand how one copes with it, overall health, and how a person positions and uses his or her body duringwork and other activities (including use of a keyboard or pointing device). Some studies suggest that theamount of time a person uses a keyboard may also be a factor. Some guidelines that may help you workmore comfortably with your computer and possibly reduce your risk of experiencing an MSD can be foundin the “Healthy Computing Guide” topic of the User’s Guide, provided with the software program on yourCD-ROM. If you do not have the CD-ROM for this product, you can access the “Healthy Computing Guide”from http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/, or (in the United States only) call 1-800-360-7561 to requesta CD-ROM at no charge. If you have questions about how your own lifestyle, activities, or medical orphysical condition may be related to MSDs, see a qualified health professional.Information in this document, including URL and other Internet Web site references, is subject to change withoutnotice. If it does not work as expected, make sure thefollowing procedures were completed as specified earlier in these instructions:•New batteries are inserted correctly•The receiver is properly connected to the computer•The receiver and pointing device are properly positionedIf the pointing device is still not working, try changing the channel. Changing thewireless connection channel is useful if you are experiencing interference. To change the wireless connection channel•Press the button on the bottom of the wireless pointing device. If changing the channel does not solve the problem, you may need to reconnectthe pointing device to the receiver. To avoid potential interference, the pointingdevice transmits data using a unique code, which the receiver is preset to ac-cept. In rare circumstances, the pointing device may need to be reconnectedwith the receiver to work properly.USB connector5X08-75976_Mnl_Ret_Wireless_Pointing_Devices.p65 3/6/2002, 9:49 AM4

This Class B digital apparatus complies with Canadian ICES-003.Cet appareil numérique de la classe B est conforme à la norme NMB-003 du Canada. This device also complies with Part 15 of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. The Microsoft hardware device(s) that accompanies this software can radiate radio frequency (RF) energy. If not installed and used in strict accordance with the instructions given in the printed documentation and Online User's Guide, the device may cause harmful interference with other radio-communications devices (for example AM/FM radios, televisions, baby monitors, cordless phones, etc.). Any cable that is connected to the device must be a shielded cable that is properly grounded. There is, however, no guarantee that RF interference will not occur in a particular installation.Your Microsoft hardware device has been tested, and it complies with the limits for a Class B digital device in accordance with the specifications in Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful RF interference in a residential installation. To determine if your hardware device is causing interference to other radio-communications devices, disconnect the device from your computer. If the interference stops, it was probably caused by the device. If the interference continues after you disconnect the hardware device, turn the computer off and then on again. If the interference stopped when the computer was off, check to see if one of the input/output (I/O) devices or one of the computer's internal accessory boards is causing the problem. Disconnect the I/O devices one at a time and see if the interference stops. If this hardware device does cause interference, try the following measures to correct it:lRelocate the antenna of the other radio-communications device (for example AM/FM Radios, televisions, baby monitors, cordless phones, etc) until the interference stops. lMove the hardware device farther away from the radio or TV, or move it to one side or the other of the radio or TV. lPlug the computer into a different power outlet so that the hardware device and radio or TV are on different circuits controlled by different circuit breakers or fuses. lIf necessary, ask your computer dealer or an experienced radio-TV technician for more suggestions. You may find helpful information about interference issues at the following FCC website: http://www.fcc.gov/cib/consumerfacts/interference.html or call the FCC at 1-888-CALL FCC to request from the operator "Interference and Telephone Interference" fax sheets NoteAny changes or modifications not expressly approved by Microsoft could void the user's authority to operate this device. For use with UL Listed and GS approved personal computers. Not intended for use in machinery or industrial applications.
