Place the Microtek CD-ROM into theCD-ROM drive.B. Follow the on-screen instructions to install thedriver and software. Do not turn off yourcomputer until all the software has beeninstalled.NOTE: If the Microtek Software Installerscreen does not come up automatically,double-click the following in succession: “MyComputer” on your Windows desktop; the CD-ROM icon; then cdsetup.exe to start theinstaller program.C. Install the image-editing software applicationthat came with your scanner.D. Restart your computer.Unlock the scanner carriage•With the scanner power switched off, lift thescanner front end and locate the carriagesafety lock lever (located at the front-rightcorner of the scanner bottom).•Slightly slide the lever to the right until youhear a “click”, indicating that the scannercarriage has been unlocked.Connect the USB cableA. Connect the computer end of the USB cable toyour computer.B. Connect the other end of the USB cable to theUSB port of the scanner.The system will detect your scannerautomatically.Connect the power adapter to apower source to apply power toscannerA. Connect the power adapter to the back of thescanner.B. Plug the power adapter into a wall outlet orpower source and observe the green LED inthe front panel lights up.MAC:A. Place the scan materialA. Place the original to be scanned on thescanner bed.B. The top end of the original should be orientedtowards the front end of the scanner with thesurface to be scanned facing down.Launch ScanWizard 5To launch ScanWizard 5 as a stand-aloneprogram, double-click the ScanWizard 5 icon onyour desktop.By default, the scanner will detect the settingsunder Original, Scan Type and Purpose; andautomatically perform a “fast preview” of yourimage based on those settings.Select preferencesYou can use the following tool buttons to changethe settings according to your preferences.Original – defines category of the original (scanmaterial).Scan Type – selects output image type (color, gray,or B&W).Purpose – defines image resolution to match yourtarget application.NOTE: Click the Scale Output, Adjust, and Resetbuttons if you need to make further adjustments.678AFor More Help...If you experience problems with installation, referto the Troubleshooting file in the Techinfo folder onyour Microtek CD- ROM.For more information on operating your scannerwith ScanWizard 5, launch your Internet browserto further view the software manual (in HTMLformat). Click the Scan to button from the ScanWizard5 Control Panel.B. When the Save As dialog box appears, specifythe folder location, a file name, and the formatfor the output image, then click Save. Theimage is then scanned and saved to thespecified location.Send image to application after saving:If this option is checked, the scanned image issaved first, then automatically delivered to animage-editing software, an e-mail editor, or a webbrowser as indicated in the destination box.9Scanner Button ControlsThe ScanMaker 3800 is equipped with fivescanner buttons providing quick access to themost frequently used functions. These buttons areScan, Copy, E-mail, OCR , and Scan-to-Web. Theparameters for each button can be set through theMicrotek Scanner Configuration (MSC) utility.(Note that you need to exit ScanWizard 5 beforeaccessing tge MSC utility).To launch the MSC utility, you can either: (For PCs)Go through the Windows menu -- click Start,Programs, ScanWizard 5, MSC; or (For PCs orMacs) Double-click the MSC icon on your desktop.When the MSC panel appears, click any of the 5tabs to specify the Scan settings accordingly. (Fordetailed information, refer to the online help in theMicrotek Scanner Configuration Utility software).ScanCaptures images that can be saved as files or sentto an image editing application for furtherprocessing.CopyScans image and sends it to your printer.E-mailScans the image and delivers it directly to your e-mail editor.OCRScans a text document, convert and saves it as atext file format. File may be immediately edited ifconfigured in the MSC utility.Scan-to-WebScans an image and sends output to a website.
