Install the battery. 䡲 䡲 Remove the battery from its packaging. Insert the battery into the opening in the back of the phone, making sure the connectors align. Gently press down to secure the battery. 1A. Setting Up Service Position the battery cover over the battery compartment and press down until you hear a click. HD VIDEO 䡲 2. Charge your battery for at least three hours. 3H 3. Press and hold the Power/Screen Lock on Power/ Screenlock Button top of your phone to turn it on. 䡲 If your phone is activated, it will turn on and show some setup instructions. 䡲 If your phone is not yet activated, see “Activating Your Phone” on page 3 for more information. 4. Follow the prompts to add email and other accounts. Or, touch Skip to go to the home screen Note: Please read the battery use and safety text in the important legal and safety information packaged with your phone. Activating Your Phone 䢇 If you purchased your phone at a Sprint Store, it is probably activated and ready to use. 䢇 If you received your phone in the mail and it is for a new Sprint account or a new line of service, it is designed to activate automatically. To confirm your activation, make a phone call. 䢇 If you received your phone in the mail and you are activating a new phone for an existing number on your account, you will need to go online to activate your new phone. From your computer’s Web browser, go to www.sprint.com/activate and complete the onscreen instructions to activate your phone. When you have finished, make a phone call to confirm your activation. If your phone is still not activated or you do not have access to the Internet, contact Sprint Customer Service at 1-888-211-4727 for assistance. 䡲 Setting Up Service so you can start to make calls. You can add accounts later. 䡲 Touch the android to begin. 䡲 Set up or log into your Google account. 䡲 Add additional accounts. Tip: Do not press the Power/Screen Lock button while the phone is being activated. Pressing it cancels the activation process. Note: If you are having difficulty with activation, contact Sprint Customer Service by dialing 1-888-211-4727 from any other phone. Setting Up Your Voicemail Your phone automatically transfers all unanswered calls to your voicemail, even if your phone is in use or turned off. You should set up your Sprint Voicemail and personal greeting as soon as your phone is activated. Always use a password to protect against unauthorized access. 1A. Setting Up Service 1. Touch Dialer to open the dial screen, and then touch and hold 2. Follow the system prompts to: Create your password. 䡲 Record your name announcement. 䡲 Record your greeting. 䡲 2. To sign into your account, use the user name or email and password that you set up on that account (the same as on your computer) Note: You can add corporate sync (Microsoft® Exchange®), email, or social networking accounts (such as Facebook, Twitter, and more) to your phone. If you don’t have accounts, you can visit their Web sites to set them up. Note: Voicemail Password Sprint strongly recommends that you create a password when setting up your voicemail to protect against unauthorized access. Without a password, anyone who has access to your phone is able to access your voicemail messages. For more information about using your voicemail, see “Voicemail” on page 51. Setting Up Messaging & Social Networking Accounts If you skipped the setup steps when you first turned on your phone, use these steps to add accounts: 1. Touch Accounts > Add account. 1A. Setting Up Service Tip: For faster downloads and data connection speeds in Wi-Fi covered areas, , see “Connecting With Wi-Fi” on page 47. Sprint Account Passwords As a Sprint customer, you enjoy unlimited access to your personal account information, your voicemail account, and your data services account. To ensure that no one else has access to your information, you will need to create passwords to protect your privacy. Account Username and Password If you are the account owner, you will create an account username and password when you sign on to www.sprint.com. (Click Sign in and then click Sign up Voicemail Password You’ll create your voicemail password when you set up your voicemail. See “Setting Up Your Voicemail” on page 3 for more information on your voicemail password. Data Services Password With your Sprint phone, you may elect to set up an optional data services password to control access and authorize Premium Service purchases. For more information, or to change your passwords, sign on to www.sprint.com or call Sprint Customer Service at 1-888-211-4727. You can get up to three pieces of information per call, and the operator can automatically connect your call at no additional charge. Phone Basics Phone Basics Key and Connector Functions Turning Your Phone On and Off Touchscreen and Keys Turning Your Phone On Touchscreen On/Off 䊳 Press and hold Power/Screen Lock for approximately two seconds. As your phone connects to the network, you see a connecting message. Your phone may require you to enter identifying information to use it or to access specific features. Note: If your phone's SIM PIN is set, you will be prompted to enter your SIM PIN code when you turn on your phone. Press Menu /, enter the four-digit SIM code, and touch OK to allow phone transmissions as prompted. Turning Your Phone Off 䊳 10 Press and hold Power/Screen Lock to open a phone options menu, where you can turn off the phone (Power off), or turn Airplane mode or Silent mode on or off. 2A. Phone Basics Your touchscreen is on when you need it and off when you don’t. 䢇 To make your touchscreen sleep or wake up, just press Power/Screen Lock. 䢇 When you hold the phone to your ear during calls, your touchscreen sleeps to prevent accidental touches. 䢇 To let the touchscreen adjust brightness automatically, press Menu / > Settings > Sound & display > Brightness and check Automatic brightness. Note: Your touchscreen might stay dark if the sensor just above it is covered. Don't use covers or screen protectors (even clear ones) that cover this sensor. Search Key ( ) – Press to open the search application. Sleep and Wake Up To save your battery, prevent Power/ Screenlock accidental touches, or when you Button want to wipe smudges off your touchscreen, put the touchscreen to sleep by pressing Power/ Screen Lock. To wake up the touchscreen, just press Power/Screen Lock again. To change how long your phone waits before the screen goes to sleep automatically, touch Settings > Sound & display > Screen timeout. Tip: To make the screen lock when it goes to sleep, use “Screen Lock” on page 91. Home Screen The home screen gives you all your latest information in one place. It’s what you see when you turn on the phone or press Home X. It’s basically like this: Phone Basics Adjust Volume Press the volume keys to change the ring volume (in the home screen), or the earpiece volume (during a call). Rotate the Screen To set the touchscreen to stay right-side up when you turn your phone, touch Settings > Sound & display and uncheck the Orientation check box.
