To turn off your phone, press and hold , then tap Power off in the menu that opens. register & import contacts The first time you turn on Morrison and register, MOTOBLUR will sync your contacts—from your SIM card, email, and social network accounts—into one list. From then on, MOTOBLUR will keep your contacts updated. When somebody gets a new number or updates their status, you’ll know it. Note: MOTOBLUR registration is secure, and should only take a few minutes (depending on how many email or social networking accounts you want to add). For more, see “your MOTOBLUR account” on page 19. The first time you turn on Morrison, select your language (tap Next), then read the Welcome (tap Next). To create your MOTOBLUR account, choose Register a new account and enter the info. If you already created a MOTOBLUR account, choose Use an existing account and enter your info. let’s go 3 After you register, you can add your Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, or other accounts. Your phone downloads your friends and contacts when you sign in. Note: If you don’t have social networking accounts, visit Facebook, MySpace, or Twitter Web sites to find out more. To add accounts anytime, see “add accounts” on page 20. When you finish signing in, your phone shows your home screen. To import the contacts from your SIM > Settings > Import card, tap Contacts, then press from SIM card. Tap OK to confirm. Wi-Fi connect If you want to use a wireless computer network for even faster Internet access, press > Settings > Wireless controls > Wi-Fi settings. Tap Wi-Fi to search for and connect to wireless networks. For more, see “Wi-Fi” on page 48. cool content & more Browse and download thousands of the coolest apps on the planet from Google, so you can search (of course), let’s go map, chat and play to your heart’s content. On top of that, you get a full HTML browser too, so you can surf in style. Download new apps with “Android market” on page 43. Your phone comes with a microSD memory card installed—you can load it up with photos, videos, or music from your computer. security Everything you do on Morrison is backed-up on MOTOBLUR, so quit worrying. Even if you lose your device, MOTOBLUR can help you find it, lock it, or wipe it. And when you get your next MOTOBLUR product, your stored info makes it a snap to set up with just a username and password. let’s go touchscreen & keys a few essentials touch tips Try these actions to touch and move things in the touchscreen: tap To choose an icon or option, tap it. For example, from your home screen, you can tap Contacts. tap & hold To open special options, tap and hold an icon or other item. For example, in the home screen, tap and hold a chip to show the options Setup, Move, and Delete. drag To move an icon or a list item, you can drag it. For example, in the home screen, tap and hold a chip to show its options, then tap Move. Drag the chip to a new spot, then tap Done. 10 touchscreen & keys flick To quickly scroll through lists, or pull things up, down, left, or right, flick (drag quickly) across the touchscreen. In the home screen, quickly flick the main panel left or right to open other panels. Panel Map When you flick panels left or right, this bar shows which one you’re on. Flick the icons from the bottom of the touchscreen upward to open the full menu. sleep & wake up To save your battery, prevent accidental taps, or when you want to wipe smudges off your touchscreen, put the touchscreen to sleep by pressing . To wake up the touchscreen, just press , or , or open the phone. touchscreen & keys 11 adjust volume Press the volume keys to change the ring volume (in the home screen), or the earpiece volume (during a call). 12 touchscreen & keys home screen quick access to the things you need most home screen quick start The home screen gives you all your latest information in one place. It’s what you see when you turn on the phone or press from a menu. It’s basically like this: Status Indicators Your Online Status Tap to change your status. Notifications Flick this bar down to see details about new notifications. Chips Tap to open, or tap & hold to move or set up. Shortcuts Tap to open. Flick up to open the app tray. home screen 13 MOTOBLUR integrates all your communications—from Gmail to Facebook, Twitter to MySpace—pulling together the threads you’re following, the people you’re friending and every story, link or video you’re sharing into a single stream that you view any way you choose. Tip: Customize your home screen in “personalize” on page 30. chips In your home screen, chips show you news and message updates. Tip: Flick the home screen left or right to open other panels (pages of chips). To open a chip, tap it. To add or move chips, press > Manage. There are chips for Happenings, Messages, Weather, and News. 14 home screen happenings chip The Happenings chip shows the latest update from your social networks. Tap the chip to open a list of updates. Tap an update for details, or flick it left to see other updates. Tap the Happenings chip, then tap an update to see details. set up or delete the happenings chip Tap and hold this chip, then tap Setup or Delete. To add social networks in Setup, see “add accounts” on page 20. messages chip The Messages chip shows your latest email, message, or IM. Tap the chip to open the message, then flick left to open older messages. Tap the Messages chip, then flick messages left. home screen 15 set up or delete the messages chip Tap and hold this chip, then tap Setup or Delete. To add email accounts in Setup, see “add accounts” on page 20. news chips News chips show you the latest unread headline, and can have different names (like Sports or Entertainment). Tap a chip for the full story. set up or delete news chips Tap and hold a chip, then tap Setup or Delete. In Setup, you can change the chip’s name or add more RSS feeds for this chip. When you open the news chip, flick left to see other headlines all the chip’s feeds. weather chips Tap a weather chip for the daily forecast. Then, tap the chip again for the detailed forecast. set up or delete weather chips Tap and hold a chip, then tap Setup or Delete. In Setup, you can change the location or add more locations for this chip. When you open the weather chip, flick left to see other locations you added. 16 home screen status & notifications At the top of the screen, icons tell you about messages and phone status. To open it from the home screen, press . To close it, press again. Tip: To find an app in the app tray, you can open your phone and type the app name. 18 app tray social networking my life, your life your MOTOBLUR account When you first turned on your phone, you registered for a MOTOBLUR account that manages your messages, contacts, and more (“register & import contacts” on page 7). You can log into this account from a computer upload contacts, manage the account, get help, or even locate your phone: ws-cloud1-qa1.blurdev.com/ blur-services-1.0/web/ view accounts & update status Morrison lets you do just about anything on Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter right from the full touchscreen—post photos as soon as you snap them, or blast your status across all your social networks at once. MOTOBLUR makes the connections, whether you’re posting, surfing, or squawking. After you add a social networking account, you’ll see your status in your home screen, along with your friends’ updates (“happenings chip” on page 15). Tip: If you close the call display during a call, flick down the status bar and tap Current call to reopen it. emergency calls Your service provider programs one or more emergency phone numbers, such as 911 or 112, that you can call under any circumstances, even when your phone is locked or the SIM card is not inserted. Note: Check with your service provider, as emergency numbers vary by country. Your phone may not work in all locations, and sometimes an emergency call cannot be placed due to network, environmental, or interference issues. Do not solely rely on your wireless phone for essential communications, such as medical emergencies. Tap (if your phone is locked, tap Emergency Call). Enter the emergency number. Every time you pick up a call, check a message or look up a friend’s contact info, sure, you’ll see their name and number, but you’ll see their social network status and smiling face, too. Find it: Contacts • To filter the contacts by source (like All, Favorites, or Facebook) tap the filter name at the top. • To change the list view, tap History (recently used), A-Z (list without status), or Status (list with status) at the bottom. • To find a contact, just type the name. call, text, or edit contacts Find it: Contacts • To show Call, Send text message, Email, View contact, Delete, or other options, tap and hold the contact. • To edit a contact, tap it, then press > Edit. create contacts Find it: Contacts > > Add Person contacts 25 Open your phone to type the name and details.
