When recording your messages on the MOC, the recommended distance from the device to the lips is two to three inches (5.0 to 7.5 cm). Not performing this accurately may result in audio distortion.Electromagnetic Interference/CompatibilityNote: Nearly every electronic device is susceptible to electromagnetic interference (EMI) if inadequately shielded, designed or otherwise configured for electromagnetic compatibility.FacilitiesTo avoid electromagnetic interference and/or compatibility conflicts, do not use this device where posted notices instruct you not to do so. Hospitals or healthcare facilities may be using equipment that is sensitive to external RF energy.

Sparks in a potentially explosive atmosphere can cause an explosion or fire resulting in bodily injury or even death.The areas with potentially explosive atmospheres referred to above include fueling areas such as below decks on boats, fuel or chemical transfer or storage facilities, areas where the air contains chemicals or particles, such as grain, dust or metal powders, and any other area where you would normally be advised to turn off your vehicle engine. Areas with potentially explosive atmospheres are often but not always posted.

If a damaged antenna comes into contact with your skin, a minor burn can result.BatteriesAll batteries can cause property damage and/or bodily injury such as burns if a conductive material such as jewelry, keys, or beaded chains touch exposed terminals. The conductive material may complete an electrical circuit (short circuit) and become quite hot. Exercise care in handling any charged battery, particularly when placing it inside a pocket, purse, or other container with metal objects.

Using the MOC11Using the MOCActivationWhen the service button on the front of the MOC is pressed by a customer, the unit “wakes up” and sends a pre-recorded message to staff members carrying portable two-way radios that are on the same frequency and code. The flashing green LED on the front of the MOC indicates to the customer that the device has been activated, and the message has been sent.Depending upon the programming of the unit, the transmitted message may also be audible at the MOC.The message is repeated for a preset number of times or until it is deactivated.DeactivationOnce a staff member responds to the customer, the staff member can deactivate the message by pressing and holding the service button for three seconds.
Installation and Programming12Installation and ProgrammingInstalling the Batteries1. Locate the turn key opening, between the speaker and the audio port on the bottom of the MOC.2. Turn the turn key clockwise to disengage the back cover of the MOC. Once the back cover is removed, install three C-cell batteries (not included) as indicated on the battery tray.To replace the back cover, see Step 4 in “Reassembling the MOC”.Installing the Service Button Label 1. With the back cover off, hold the MOC with the back (open) side up. 2. Locate the gray front cover tab inside the MOC, above the battery tray.3. Press the tab downward, toward the battery tray, to disengage it. Then push it forward to slide the front cover off.4. Once the service button has been removed from the gray front frame, hold the service button with its back to you and press the two side tabs toward the center of the button to dislodge the back button cover.6. Remove the service button label supplied with your MOC and replace it with one of the other button labels provided.ProgrammingWith the gray front cover off, you can see the programming display.The programming of the MOC consists of eight sequential functions. These begin on page 17. You must enter programming mode before proceeding.
Installation and Programming15Entering Programming Mode1. Ensure that the batteries have been correctly installed.2. Press and hold the (–) and Power buttons simultaneously to enter programming mode. Note: You hear a confirmation tone to alert you that you have entered programming mode.If you wish to exit programming mode, press and hold the Help button for five seconds.Menu NavigationOnce you are in programming mode, press the Menu button repeatedly to scroll through the main programming menu options 1 – 8.Submenu Navigation1. Once you have scrolled to the menu option of your choice, press the (+) or (–) buttons to scroll through the submenu options.2. Access subsequent submenu options (e.g., circle and square options; see Menu Map) by pressing the Menu button again.3. When you have finished programming a submenu option, press the Menu button to move to the next menu option.

To record your message: 1. Press and hold the Rec button, and speak clearly into the MOC microphone. (Example: “Customer needs assistance in Aisle 5.”) The recommended distance from the MOC to the lips is two to three inches (5.0 to 7.5 cm).2. Release the Rec button once you have finished recording your message. The number in the display will increase as you record to show the number of seconds that have been recorded.• Message length minimum: 1 second• Message length maximum: 8 secondsNote: If your recorded message is longer than 8 seconds, the MOC will record only the first 8 seconds.3. Press the (+) button to play back your recorded message, if desired.

Installation and Programming242. Press the Power button to verify that audio has been muted on the MOC.To allow transmitted messages to be audible at the MOC:1. Press and hold the Rec and Power buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds.Note: The display and LED light, and you hear an audio confirmation tone. This indicates that MOC audio is unmuted, and the transmitted message will be audible at the MOC.2. Press the Power button to verify that audio has been unmuted on the MOC.Reassembling the MOC1. To reassemble the button, press the two side tabs of the label faceplate together and insert them into the label backplate.2. Press the button back into the front cover, making sure that the groove at the top of the button fits around the tab at the top of the front cover.3. To reinstall the front cover, first hook the two bottom tabs of the front cover into the openings on the front of the MOC, then slide the top tab into place.4. Defects in materials and workmanship in batteries that are manufactured by MOTOROLA and/or sold with Products are covered by this warranty only if the fully charged capacity falls below 80% of rated capacity or they leak.•Software. Physical defects in the media that tangibly embodies each copy of any software supplied with the Products.II. What the Period of Coverage IsFrom the date the Products are purchased by the first end-user:•Products. The warranty is for one year.•Software. The warranty is for 90 days.•Repairs/Replacements. The warranty is for the balance of the original warranty or for 90 days from the date you receive it, whichever is longer.

What We Will Do to Correct Warranty ProblemsAt no charge to you, we have the option to repair or replace the Products or software that do not conform to the warranty, or to refund the Products’ purchase price. We may use functionally equivalent reconditioned/refurbished/pre-owned or new Products or parts. No software updates are provided.V. How To Obtain Warranty Service or Other InformationYou will receive instructions on how to ship the Products to MOTOROLA. You must ship the Products to us with freight, duties and insurance prepaid. What This Warranty Does Not Cover• Products that are operated in combination with ancillary or peripheral equipment or software not furnished by MOTOROLA for use with the Products (“ancillary equipment”), or any damage to the Products or ancillary equipment as a result of such use. Among other things, “ancillary equipment” includes batteries, chargers, adaptors, and power supplies not manufactured or supplied by MOTOROLA. Any of these voids the warranty.• Someone other than MOTOROLA (or its authorized service centers) tests, adjusts, installs, maintains, alters, modifies, or services the Products in any way. Any of these voids the warranty.• Rechargeable batteries that: (a) are charged by other than the MOTOROLA-approved battery charger specified for charging such batteries; (b) have any broken seals or show evidence of tampering; (c) are used in equipment other than the Product for which they are specified; or (d) are charged and stored at temperatures greater than 60 degrees Centigrade. Any of these voids the warranty.
Limited Warranty33• Products that have: (a) serial numbers or date tags that have been removed, altered, or obliterated; (b) board serial numbers that do not match each other; or board serial numbers that do not match the housing; or (c) non-conforming or non-MOTOROLA housings or parts. Any of these voids the warranty.• Defects or damage that result from: (a) use of the Products in a manner that is not normal or customary; (b) improper operation or misuse; (c) accident or neglect such as dropping the Products onto hard surfaces; (d) contact with water, rain, extreme humidity, or heavy perspiration; (e) contact with sand, dirt or the like; or (f) contact with extreme heat, or spills of food or liquid.• Physical damage to the surface of the Products, including scratches, cracks or other damage to a display screen, lens, or other externally exposed parts.• Failure of Products that is due primarily to any communication service or signal you may subscribe to or use with the Products.• Coil cords that are stretched or that may have any broken modular tabs.• Products that are leased.Flat rate repair rates may apply to Products not covered by this warranty. Limited Warranty34VII. Some Other Limitations This is MOTOROLA’s complete warranty for the Products, and states your exclusive remedies. This warranty is given in lieu of all other express warranties. Implied warranties, including without limitation, implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, are given only if specifically required by applicable law. Our obligation is conditioned on:A. you notifying us promptly in writing when you receive notice of such claim;B. you giving us sole control of the defense of such suit and all negotiations for its settlement or compromise; andC. should the Products become, or in MOTOROLA's opinion be likely to become, the subject of a claim of infringement of a United States patent, you permit us, at our option and expense, either to: procure for you the right to continue using the Products; replace or modify them so that it becomes non-infringing or grant you a credit for such Products, as depreciated, and accept their return. The depreciation will be an equal amount per year over the life-time of the Products, as established by MOTOROLA.MOTOROLA will have no liability with respect to any claim of patent infringement which is based upon the combination of the Product or parts furnished under this limited warranty with ancillary equipment, as defined in VI, above.This is MOTOROLA's entire liability with respect to infringement of patents by the Products.Laws in the United States and other countries preserve for MOTOROLA and other third-party software providers certain exclusive rights for copyrighted software, such as the exclusive rights to reproduce in copies and distribute copies of such software.
