Before Getting Started●Designed for use on your local wirelessnetworkThe HCM-R1 Remote Control works withyour local wireless network.  This featuregives you control of your system by sendingcommands over your home network withoutbeing in line-of-sight of the equipment.Expand your system to also control yourhome’s audio/video devices by adding aHCM-C1 Base Station.● Programmable via a simple web pageinterfaceUse the URC web based programmingpage to fully automate your homeentertainment, comfort and security system.Download and save the setup file on theURC µCloud. Connecting the BatteryThe lithium polymer battery can be removed bypressing the spring lock down to unlock andremove the cover. The battery is included in thebox when shipped from the factory. Place thebattery into the battery compartment, makingsure to align the contacts on the battery to thecontacts on the HCM-R1. The battery snapsinto place when aligned properly. Replace thecover.Using the ChargerPlug the charger into a power outlet and to thebottom of the HCM-R1 Remote Control. Thereis no harm in leaving the HCM-R1 RemoteControl on its charger when it is not in use.Two-Way via Wi-FiTo use the HCM-R1 with any two-waycompanion product, it must be configured to bepart of a LAN (local area network) via a Wi-Fib/g access point or router.Using the HCM-R1The HCM-R1’s Home Menu pages display theactivities and devices in your system. Press theHome page button to view your activities anddevices. Navigate the Home page by using theup and down buttons. Press any buttonadjacent to the screen to select an activity ordevice. Press the Home button to return to thatpage and select a new device or activity.Page 3
Settings ScreenYou can enter the Settings menu by pressingand holding the Home and Enter (ENT) buttonsfor three seconds. When the Settings menuappears, any further action must be completedwithin 60 seconds, at which point the remotereverts to the Home Menu screen. Use the Upand Down buttons to navigate between theSettings items. Select a setting when a line itemis highlighted, by pressing the adjacent buttonon the LCD screen, or the Select button. Pressthe Home button to return to a previous step orexit the Settings menu.The expanded view of the HCM-R1 SettingsMenu, displays all available Setup Menuoptions.Page 4
Network SettingsThe screen displays network information aboutyour HCM-R1 Remote Control and the wirelessnetwork it is connected to. Within this screen,you can scan for a Wi-Fi Network, select anetwork to connect to, and enter any requiredcustom network settings.Base Station SetupAfter connecting the HCM-C1 Base Station tothe local network, select the Base Station Setupitem to view a list of available HCM-C1’s withinthe home. Base Stations are identified by theirMAC Address, which is displayed on a stickerattached to the HCM-C1 Base Station.Select an HCM-C1 Base Station to view andconfigure its network properties.Page 5
iControl Account InfoThe iControl® Account Info item allows theentry of an account username and password.iControl® is a provider of home comfort, lightingand security products. The HCM-R1 RemoteControl provides a two-way interface to thesedevices, over the local wireless Ethernetnetwork.Contact your subscription television service toacquire iControl® home lighting, comfort andsecurity products to use with your HCM-R1Remote Control.Page 6
Sleep TimersAdjust the amount of time the LCD remains ONwhen the remote is not in use. The time can beset independently based on whether the remoteis using battery power or connected to thecharger. Select LCD on Battery Power or LCD onCharger to setup their Sleep Timer value. Oncethe Sleep Timers are adjusted, press the Savebutton. Pressing the Go Back button will revertto the remotes last saved setting.Page 7
BrightnessSelect Brightness to view and configure theLCD screen’s brightness level.Adjust the screen brightness by pressing theadjacent hard buttons to increase or decreasethe brightness level. Press the Save buttonwhen you have finished adjusting the level.Pressing the Go Back button will revert to theremotes last saved setting.Note: The higher the brightness, the faster thebatteries will deplete.Page 8
SystemThe System Information screen displays dataabout your HCM-R1’s Operating System,Memory, among other information. Press theMore button to view further system information.Pressing the Go Back button will exit to theremote’s settings menu.Page 9
Button LightAdjust the remote’s button backlight bypressing the adjacent hard buttons to increaseor decrease the light level. Press the Ok buttonwhen you have finished adjusting the level.Pressing the Go Back button will revert to theremote’s last saved setting.Page 10
PowerView the remote’s remaining battery powerpercentage level and indicate how low thepercentage should be before you receive a LowBattery warning screen. Press the Save buttonwhen you have finished adjusting the powerlevel. Pressing the Go Back button will revert tothe remote’s last saved setting.Page 11
SoundAdjust the remote’s sound by pressing theadjacent hard buttons which increases ordecreases the button’s volume level. Press theSave button when you have finished adjustingthe sound level. Pressing the Go Back buttonwill revert to the remotes last saved setting.PickupYou can set the HCM-R1 to turn ON when it ispicked up. Simply select Yes (Turn ON) or No(Turn OFF). The System Menu is displayedafter the pickup is adjusted.Page 12
Firmware UpdateSelect Firmware Update to check for the latestfirmware version available for the HCM-R1remote control and HCM-C1 base station (ifnecessary). The screen, shown below, appears when afirmware update is available:Select Yes to begin the firmware updateprocess. Selecting No reverts the remote to theHCM-R1 System Menu. The screens, shown below, appear when afirmware update is not available:Page 13
Factory DefaultWARNING! Selecting this button resets thememory of the HCM-R1 to the factory settings.All your programming will be lost! Selecting Yesshall set the HCM-R1 to factory default.Selecting No shall return the HCM-R1 to theSetup Menu screen.ExitWhen you have finished adjusting the remote’sSettings, simply press the Exit button to returnto normal operation.Page 14
Remote Control IDIf this is the first time the HCM-R1 RemoteControl is being used, out of the box, an InitialLaunching process will be shown. The processwill guide you to acquiring a Remote Control ID,and a URC Programming Key. When using theProgramming Web Page, the Remote ControlID is used to identify the HCM-R1 RemoteControl(s) within your systemURC Programming KeyAfter completing the Initial Launching process,a 16-digit URC Programming Key is displayed.This key is required to access the URCProgramming Web Page. The primary base station model name usedwithin the system is also displayed on thisscreen. This information is required, whenprompted for system validation when using theURC Programming Web Page.Note: This information is not displayed after thesystem has been successfully programmed bythe URC Programming Web Page.Page 15
