It includes a battery pack containing two small hermetically-sealed primary Lithium – Manganese Dioxide cells, enclosed within a single heat-shrunk plastic casing which incorporates physical and electrical short-circuit protection. Use Information The product has a limited service life: see label for expiry date. The product contains no user-serviceable parts. The product should only be fitted to a beacon by qualified service personnel. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DISMANTLE. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RECHARGE THE BATTERIES. Hazardous Substances Under EC and US legislation this product is classified as a manufactured article, which does not result in exposure to any hazardous chemicals under normal conditions of use. As such the product does not require a Material Safety Data Sheet, and the following information is provided as a courtesy: The Lithium content of the battery pack within the product is less than 2.0 g. The cells within the product may contain the following active ingredients, by CAS number and name: 1313-13-9 Manganese Dioxide 108-32-7 Propylene Carbonate 110-71-4 1,2-Dimethoxy Ethane 7439-93-2 Lithium Metal 7791-03-9 Lithium Perchlorate 33454-82-9 Lithium Trifluoromethane Sulfonate No chemical hazard will be posed as long as the cells remain in their sealed condition.

False alarms cause expensive disruption to Search and Rescue services and may endanger lives as a consequence. This operation should only be performed by qualified service personnel. This product should be disposed of in a sensible and considerate manner, and in accordance with local regulations. Take it to a civil recycling facility, or contact McMurdo for advice.
