Before using this unit please read these operating instructions carefully. Take special care to follow the warnings indicated on the unit itself as well as the safety suggestions listed below. Afterwards keep them handy for future reference. Polarization--If the unit is equipped with a polarized AC power plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other), that plug will fit into the AC outlet only one way. If the plug should still fail to fit, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug. 3. Power Cord Protection--At power supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by [ [ Placement 1. Ventilation--The 2. items placed upon or against them. Outdoor Antenna Grounding--If an outside antenna is connected to the receiver, be sure the antenna system is grounded so as to provide some protaction against voltage surges and built-up static charges. Section 810 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA No. 70-1990, provides information with respect to proper grounding of the mast and supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of grounding conductors, location of antenna-discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode. Glossary Track This is the smallest division on Video CD and Audio CD, and usually equates to a single song. Chapter This is the smallest division on DVD and is roughly equivalent to a track. Title This is the largest division of DVD, PBC (Playback control) This method of controlling disc play is included on version 2.0 Video CDs. You are able to interact with the disc through menus. • Start your volume control at a low setting. • Slowly increase the soun_until you can hear it comfortably and clearly, and without distortion. If your television is not equipped to handle PAL 525/ 60 signals the picture will not be shown correctly. _4 The factory setting for NTSC disc output is "PAL 60", so no changes to the initial setting are necessary. The bottom part of the picture may be cut off it the Video CD played does not comply with standards. Use only the supplied speakers. The combination of the unit and the included speakers provides the best sound. Using other speakers can damage the unit and sound quality will be adversely affected, Caution • Use the speakers only with the recommended system. Fix the other end of the antenna where reception is best. 2 AM loop antenna. Clamp the antenna into the antenna holder, then connect the antenna terminal. Keep loose antenna cord away from other wires and cords. • Disconnect the FM indoor antenna. 3 Front (I/R) speaker cables. • The antenna should be installed by a competent technician. Connect the cables to the terminals of the same color. P_;J_3 • To prevent damage to circuitry, never shod.circuit positive (÷) and negative (-) speaker wires. • Be sure to connect only positive (red, blue or gray) wires to positive (+) terminals and negative (black) wires to negative (-) terminals. 4 Center speaker cable 5 Surround 6 speaker (_ cables _"_ 30 mm _-Shield braid ® TV (not included) _--_15 mm _\ Core wire Connect the video connection cord from this unit to your TV. Alternatively, connect through the [S-VIDEO] terminal if the TV has an S-VIDEO terminal (-_ page 52). 7 (Except for U.S.A., Australia and New Zealand) Set the voltage, Use a fiat-head screwdriver to turn the voltage selector. Set it to the position for your area. If the power supply in your area is 115 V or 120 V, please set the voltage selector as follows For 115 V: Set to 110 V. For 120 V: Set to 127 V. 8 AC power supply cord. Run a piece of vinyl wire horizontally across a window or other convenient location. • Leave the loop antenna connected. • Disconnect the antenna when the unit is not in use. Do not use the antenna dudng an electrical storm. The shape of the connector depends on the area. Do not use it with other equipment. For your reference Information you enter into the unit's memory, except for time, remains intact for up to a week after the AC power supply cord is disconnected.
