To enjoy audio CD, please insert the Headphone plug into the Headphone jack. (Model CR-593-B only) This drive unit uses CD-ROM discs which bear the following mark. COMPACT DIGITAL AUDIO System Requirements • Computer IBM PC-AT or Compatible A-2 • Operating System PC-DOS Ver. 5.0 or later MS-DOS Ver. 5.0 or later MS Windows 3.1/NT3.5/NT3.51/NT4.0 MS Windows 95 / 98 OS/2 2.1X or later 1.1 PRECAUTIONS WHEN TRANSPORTING To avoid damage * Keep the original packing materials for the drive unit. * Before you transport the drive unit, remove the disc from the drive unit and repack the drive unit in its original packing. 1.2 INSTALLATION LOCATION Do not place unit in the following environments. * High-temperature, high-humidity, extreme temperature changes. * Dusty * Excessive vibration/ sudden shock. * Inclined place. * Direct sunlight. 1.3 PRECAUTIONS FOR USE * Never push objects of any kind through the Cabinet slots, never spill liquid of any kind on the unit. * Do not place objects on the product. * Do not attempt to service this product yourself. * Do not open or remove covers. * Do not place foreign objects in the disc insertion slot and attempt to operate. * Do not use CD-ROM drive when vertically installed. (Horizontal installation type only) 1.4 PRECAUTIONS FOR OPERATION To avoid error * Do not move the drive unit during operation. * Do not operate the unit directly after a sudden increase in temperature. NOTE : A great proportion of problems are usually caused by the following. ➀ Dust or Finger-prints on the surface of the CD-disc. ➁ Random Electrical Noise. ➂ Scratches and Defects on the surface of the CD-disc. 1.5 PRECAUTIONS WHEN HANDLING DISCS ➀ Hold the disc by the edges, do not touch the surface of the disc. ➁ To remove dust or fingerprint, use a clean, soft, dry cloth. A-3 ENGLISH CHAPTER 1 PRECAUTIONS WHEN OPERATING ➂ Do not write on, or paste paper to the surface of the disc. Should not paste any label to the outer back surface (the label side) of the disc, or it generates drive vibration due to imbalance of the disc. ➃ Do not store the disc in a place where the temperature is high. ➄ Do not use benzine, thinners and cleaners, etc. Thinners Benzine ➅ Do not make the center hole larger. ➆ Do not bend the disc. ➇ Do not drop the disc, or subject it to shock. A-4 Cleaners CHAPTER 2 PARTS AND FUNCTIONS ENGLISH 2.1 FRONT VIEW ➀ ➁ ➂ ➃ ➅ ➄ ➀ DISC TRAY Accepts a disc. ➁ HEAD PHONE JACK (Model CR-593-B only) Headphone can be connected using a 3.5mm stereo mini plug. ➂ VOLUME (Model CR-593-B only) Adjusts audio output level of Headphone. ➃ BUSY INDICATOR Lights when data is being accessed from the disc, or the drive is playing an audio CD. ➄ EJECT / LOAD BUTTON Ejects and loads the disc tray. ➅ EMERGENCY EJECT HOLE Insert an instrument such as straightened paper clip into this hole to manually eject the tray. The tray is ejected from the drive. ➂ Place the disc in the tray with the disc’s label facing up. ➃ Press the eject button or press the tray lightly as in the following figure. The tray is retracted automatically. * This figure shows in case of Horizontal Installation. ➄ Loading start. CAUTION: • Do not insert any foreign objects into the disc tray. This could result in a malfunction. • Do not manually force the tray to open. • When the drive is not in use, keep the tray closed to protect against dust and dirt. • Do not press down hard on the tray when loading a disc, since this may result in damage to or malfunction of the tray. • In case of emergency, eject the tray manually If for some reason the tray will not eject automatically, press the eject-bar (for example, insert a straightened paper clip minimum straight length = 45mm, Diameter = 1~ 1.5mm) into the emergency eject hole to manually eject the tray. (Before proceeding with this emergency step, make sure that the power is switched OFF.) When a single Device is attached to the interface, it shall be set as Device 0. When the ATAPI Device is attached along with an ATA Mass Storage Device, the ATAPI Device will be set as Device 1 and respond as a Slave. 5.3 POWER SAVING ➀ When the drive waits for a command from the Host for more than five minutes, then the drive enters Power Save Mode. Laser and Spindle motor stop. ➁ Re-start is automatic when the Host Command is received. When a problem occurs, check the table below which describes possible problems occurring with your CD-ROM drive. (2) If the CD-ROM drive is not operating correctly and you cannot restore operation by following the detailed procedures in the table below, do not remove the cover of the units or adjust further. (3) In the case of (2) above, unplug the unit and consult with your dealer or the nearest service station. TROUBLE • CD-ROM drive does not operate and Busy Indicator does not light. A-12 CORRECTION ➀ Confirm that the connection between the CD-ROM drive and the host computer is correct. ➁ ➂ ➃ ➄ Confirm that the program is correct. Confirm that the setting drive select switch is correct. Confirm that the disc has been inserted label side up. Confirm that foreign objects have not been inserted. Easy Installation of the Software for DOS / Windows 3.1 The CR-593-B/C CD-ROM drive must be installed into your host computer, before installing this software. 1. Turn the power of your personal computer on. If your system automatically loads Windows, you must exit Windows and reach the DOS prompt C:\. This explanation assumes that your floppy drive is designed "A" and your hard disk drive "C". If, however, you have used other letters to designate your drives, please substitute the appropriate letters. 2. Insert the floppy disk "M.K.E ATAPI Device Driver" into your floppy disk drive. 3. Type A: and press. The current drive changes to "A". 4. Type INSTALL and press . The software will then ask the destination drive as well as other parameters. The software will then be transferred, and the CONFIG.SYS, and AUTOEXEC.BAT, etc. will be changed. 5. Follow the procedures displayed on your screen until the completion message appears. 6. Eject the floppy disk from the floppy disk drive. After the installation, keep this floppy disk for future use. 7. To restart the system, press the reset button on your personal computer, or the following keys: Ctrl + Alt + Delete Check that the device driver of this equipment has been installed during the start-up procedure. Every time DOS is started, the device driver of this equipment will be automatically installed. If you have installed only the device driver for Windows, you do not need to restart the system. PRÉCAUTIONS POUR LE FONCTIONNEMENT 1.1 PRÉCAUTIONS POUR LE TRANSPORT Pour éviter tout dommage * Conserver les matériaux d’emballage originaux de l’unité d’entraînement. * Avant de transporter l’unité d’entraînement, enlever le disque de l’unité d’entraînement et remballer l’unité d’entraînement comme il était originellement. 1.2 LIEU D’INSTALLATION Ne pas placer l’unité dans les environnements suivants. * Haute température, haute humidité, fluctuations extrêmes de température. * Poussiéreux * Vibrations excessives, choc abrupt. * Endroit incliné. * Ensoleillement direct. 1.3 PRÉCAUTIONS POUR L’UTILISATION * Ne jamais insérer d’objets dans les fentes du boîtier ni y répandre de liquide. * Ne pas mettre d’objets quelconques sur le produit. * Ne pas essayer de réparer soi-même ce lecteur. * Ne pas ouvrir ou déposer les couvercles. * Ne pas mettre de matières étrangères dans la fente d’insertion de disque puis d’essayer de faire marcher l’unité. * Ne pas utiliser le lecteur de CD-ROM en position verticale. (Installation uniquement de type horizontal) 1.4 PRÉCAUTIONS À PRENDRE PENDANT LE FONCTIONNEMENT Pour éviter des erreurs. * Ne pas déplacer l’unité d’entraînement pendant le fonctionnement. * Ne pas faire fonctionner l’unité d’entraînement immédiatement après une hausse soudaine de la température. REMARQUES: La plupart des erreurs sont provoquées normalement par les suivants. ➀ Poussière ou empreintes digitales à la surface du disque compact. ➁ Bruit électrique erratique. ➂ Egratignure et défaut à la surface du disque compact. 1.5 PRÉCAUTIONS POUR LE MANIEMENT DES DISQUES ➀ Tenir le disque par les bords et ne pas toucher la surface du disque compact. ➁ Pour enlever la poussière ou des empreintes digitales, utiliser un chiffon propre, doux et sec. C-2 ➂ Ne pas écrire avec un stylo ou coller de papier sur la surface du disque. Ne pas coller d’étiquette grande ou épaisse sur la surface verso extérieure (la face de l’étiquette) du disque car le déséquilibre du disque fait vibrer le lecteur. ➃ Ne pas stocker ou mettre le disque dans un endroit à haute température. ➄ Ne pas utiliser de benzine, diluants, détergent, etc. Benzine FRANÇAIS Thinners Cleaners ➅ Ne pas élargir le trou au centre. ➆ Ne pas plier le disque. ➇ Ne pas laisser tomber le disque ou le soumettre à des chocs. GUIDE DE FONCTIONNEMENT 4.1 INSTALLATION • Mise en marche du dispositif d’entraînement. ➀ Etablir le contact. ➁ Appuyer sur le bouton d’ejection. Le plateau sera éjecté du dispositif d’entraînement. ➂ Mettre le disque dans le plateau, l’étiquette du disque au-dessus. ➃ Appuyer sur le bouton d’éjection ou pousser le plateau légèrement comme indiqué dans la figure ci-dessous. Le plateau s’insère automatiquement. FRANÇAIS * Cette illustration montre le cas d’une installation horizontale. ➄ Le chargement se met en marche. AVERTISSEMENT: • Ne pas mettre aucun objet étranger sur le plateau à disque, puisqu’il pourrait avoir pour résultat un défaut de fonctionnement. • Ne pas essayer d’ouvrir le plateau par force. • Lorsque le dispositif d’entraînement n’est pas utilisé, tenir le plateau fermé pour prévenir l’entrée de poussière. • Ne pas appuyer fortement sur le plateau en y chargeant le disque, puisqu’il en résulterait un dommage ou un mauvais fonctionnement du plateau. • En cas d’urgence, éjecter le plateau manuellement. Si, pour une raison ou autre, le plateau n’est pas éjecté automatiquement, appuyer sur la barre d’éjection. Par exemple, insérer un trombone redressé ( d’une longueur minimum de 45 mm et d’un diamètre de 1 ~ 1,5 mm) dans le trou d’éjection d’urgence pour éjecter le plateau manuellement. POINTS À VÉRIFIER AVANT DE DEMANDER UN DÉPANNAGE 7.1 PANNES ET CORRECTIONS (1) ll y a des pannes très variées provoquées par un mauvais usage. En cas de problème, vérifier le tableau ci-dessous décrivant des problèmes éventuels qui pourraient se produire avec l’unité de disque CD-ROM. Il carrello uscira’ dall’unita’. ➂ Mettere il disco nel carrello con l’etichetta in alto. ➃ Premere il tasto eject o premere leggermente il carrello come nella figura. I carrello rientra automaticamente. ➄ Parte il caricamento. PRECAUZIONI: • Non inserire alcun corpo estraneo nel carrello. Puo’ causare un malfunzionamento. • Non cercare di aprire manualmente il carrello. • Quando l’unita’ non e’ utilizzata lasciare il carrello chiuso per evitare depositi di polvere. • Non premere con forza il carrello quando inserite il disco. Puo’ causare danni al carrello stesso oltre ad un malfunzionamento. • In caso di emergenza far uscire il carrello manualmente. Se per qualche ragione il carrello non viene espulso automaticament, premere la barra eject (per esempio usando una graffetta con una lunghezza minima di 45 mm ed un diametro di 1-1.5 mm) nel foro di espulsione di emergenza per far uscire il carrello manualmente. Si por alguna razón la bandeja no se abriera automaticamente, presione con la aguja de expulsión (por ejemplo, introduzca un sujetapapeles (clip) enederezado de 45 mm appróx. de longitud y de 1 a 1,5 mm de diámetro) en el agujero de expulsión de emergencia, para abrir la bandeja manualmente.
