–6–Battery Charge■RechargeRecharge the battery when:–"Recharge" is displayed,–" " flashes on the display, or– the handset beeps every minute while it is in use.•Clean the handset and the base unit charge contacts with a soft, drycloth once a month. Clean more often if the unit is subject to grease,dust or high humidity. If not, the battery may not charge properly.•If the battery is fully charged, you do not have to place the handset on thebase unit until "Recharge" is displayed and/or " " flashes. This willmaximize the battery life.•The battery cannot be overcharged.To power the handset, charge the battery.Place the handset on the base unit for about 15 hours before initial use.A nickel cadmium battery that is recyclable powers the productyou have purchased. At the end of its useful life, under variousstate and local laws, it is illegal to dispose of this battery intoyour municipal waste stream. Please call 1-800-8-BATTERY for information on how to recycle thisbattery.
–7–You can record a personal greeting message of up to 2 minutes. If a greetingmessage is not recorded, one of two pre-recorded greetings will be playedwhen a call is received.•All messages (greeting, incoming, etc.) are stored in digital memory. Thetotal recording time is about 15 minutes. We recommend you record abrief greeting message in order to leave more time for recording newmessages.1 Press and hold GREETING until a long beep is heard.2 After the long beep, talk clearly, about 8 inches (20 cm) away from the MIC(microphone).3 When finished, press STOP or GREETING. •To check the recorded greeting, press GREETING. •If you do not record a greeting message, one of two messages will be playedwhen a call is received, depending on the caller’s recording time.Recording a Greeting Message

To decrease, press  .•To put a call on hold, press HOLD.•To release the hold, press SP-PHONE.■To answer a callPress SP-PHONE, then talk into the MIC (microphone).Caller ID ServiceThis unit is compatible with a Caller ID service offered by your telephonecompany. After subscribing to a Caller ID service, the calling party’s information will beshown on the handset display after the first ring. The unit can record information of up to 30 different callers in the caller list.The Caller List information is sorted from the most recent to the oldest call.When the unit receives the 31st call, the oldest call is deleted.If your unit is connected to a PBX system which does not support Caller IDservices, you cannot access those services. Please consult your equipmentsupplier.
–10–Automatic Answering OperationWhen the unit answers a call, a greeting message is played and the caller’smessage is recorded.■ Setting the unit to answer callsPress ANSWER ON to turn on the answering system.•The indicator lights and “Answer set” is heard.Listening to MessagesYou can see the total number of recorded messages on the base unit display.If the MESSAGE PLAYBACK flashes, new messages have been recorded.To listen to messages, press MESSAGE PLAYBACK.■ When you have new messages•The unit announces the number of new messages and plays them back.■ When you have no new messages•The unit plays back all recorded messages.Recording your telephone conversation with the handset1. During a conversation with the handset, press 2WAY REC.•The MESSAGE PLAYBACK button lights.2. Continue your conversation.3. When finished recording the conversation, press 2WAY REC.•The MESSAGE PLAYBACK button light goes out.Many states have imposed regulations on the manner in which 2-way telephone conversations may be recorded, so you should inform theother party that the conversation is being recorded. Consult your localtelephone company for further information.

–15–CAUTION:To comply with FCC RF exposure requirements, the base unit should be installed withits antenna located at 20 cm or more from persons and handset should be carried withthe specific belt-clip provided for the handset to ensure compliance. Other non-testedbelt-clips or similar body-worn accessories may not comply, therefore, should beavoided.This equipment is hearing aid compatible.A TIA/EIA-IS-968 compliant telephone cord and modular plug is provided with thisequipment. This equipment is designed to be connected to the telephone networkor premises wiring using a compatible modular jack that is also TIA/EIA-IS-968compliant.The software contained in (insert specific equipment type of features) to allowuser access to the network must be ungraded to recognize newly establishednetwork area codes and exchange codes as they are placed into service.Failure to upgrade the premises systems or peripheral equipment to recognize thenew codes as they are established will restrict the customer and the customer’semployees from gaining access to the network and to these codes.•Environment — do not place the unit in a room where the temperature is less than5°C (41°F) or greater than 40°C (104°F). If the known working phone operates properly, have your unitrepaired by one of the authorized Panasonic Factory Service Centers.
