–3–Installation■Installing the battery in the unitA rechargeable Nickel-Metal Hydride battery powers the unit while the ACadaptor is disconnected or during a power failure. The battery is charged inthe unit while the AC adaptor is connected. It takes 8 hours to charge fully.Install the battery in the battery compartment, and close the cover.•The battery cannot be overcharged.

–6–Making/Answering Calls■To make a callWhen you lift the handset to make a call, the unit will automatically select afree line.Using the digital duplex speakerphone:1 Press (DIGITAL!SP-PHONE).•The indicator lights.2 Dial a telephone number.3 Talk into the MIC (microphone).4 To hang up, press (DIGITAL!SP-PHONE).•The indicator light goes out.•In step 1, you may select a line manually by pressing the line button insteadof (DIGITAL!SP-PHONE).•To redial the last number: Lift the handset or press (DIGITAL!SP-PHONE),then press (REDIAL).•To put a call on hold, Press (HOLD).•To release the hold, press the line button.■To answer a callLift the handset.ORPress (DIGITAL!SP-PHONE), then talk into the MIC (microphone).•You can answer a call by pressing the line button instead of (DIGITAL!SP-PHONE).
–7–Caller ID ServiceThis unit is compatible with a Caller ID service offered by your telephonecompany. After subscribing to a Caller ID service, the calling party’s information will beshown on the display after the first ring. The unit can record information of up to 30 different callers in the caller list.The Caller List information is sorted from the most recent to the oldest call.When the unit receives the 31st call, the oldest call is deleted.If your unit is connected to a PBX system which does not support Caller IDservices, you cannot access those services. Please consult your equipmentsupplier.Voice Mail SystemThe Voice Mail System allows you to receive and deliver voice messagesusing mailboxes. The system accommodates one general delivery mailboxand a maximum of 8 personal mailboxes which are assigned to the registeredstation units. The mailbox numbers are the same as the extension numbers. The Voice Mail System works fully with the Automated Attendant System,which routes incoming calls to a specified mailbox and allows a caller to leavea message. With the Answering System, all calls are routed to the generaldelivery mailbox.You can use the Voice Mail System by accessing your mailbox. Each stationunit user can only access his/her own mailbox. The general delivery mailboxis managed by the KX-TG4000B base unit user (operator). The extensionusers can access this mailbox.You can also access the Voice Mail System features remotely from a touchtone phone.The following features are accessible:—listening to the recorded messages—transferring the mailbox messages to the destination mailboxes—delivering their own messages to the destination mailboxes
–8–Automated Attendant SystemYour can set this system to your desired lines to suit your needs.The automated attendant answers incoming calls and routes the callers to thebase unit or the desired extension.■ Setting the answer modeIf you turn ON the answer mode of your unit, calls will be greeted with agreeting message and callers can leave messages in your mailbox. To takecalls, leave this mode OFF (factory preset).1 While the unit is in the standby mode, press (VOICE!MAIL). •If you have new messages, listen to all of them.2 Press (5).3 To select ON, press (1). To select OFF, press (2).4 Press (VOICE!MAIL).■ Recording a personal greeting messageIf the answer mode is ON, callers will hear a pre-recorded personal greetingmessage.You can also record your own greeting message of up to 2 minutes.1 While the unit is in the standby mode, press (VOICE!MAIL). •If you have new messages, listen to all of them.2 Press (3).3 Press (1).4 After the tone, talk clearly. To end, press (1).5 Press (2), and press (VOICE!MAIL).
