Installation
■ Installing the battery in the unit
A rechargeable Nickel-Metal Hydride battery powers the unit while the AC
adaptor is disconnected or during a power failure. The battery is charged in
the unit while the AC adaptor is connected. It takes 8 hours to charge fully.
Install the battery in the battery compartment, and close the cover.
• The battery cannot be overcharged.

• USE ONLY WITH Panasonic AC ADAPTOR PQLV1.
• The AC adaptor must remain connected at all times. (It is normal for the
adaptor to feel warm during use.)

Registration
Register the cordless phone to the KX-TG4000B base unit.
Make sure that the base unit and cordless phone are in the standby mode.
Registration must be completed within 1 minute.
1 Base unit:
Press (FUNCTION).
2 Select “Registration” by pressing
or
3 Select “HS registration” by pressing

4 Cordless phone:
Press (FUNCTION).
5 Select “Registration” by pressing

6 Press H to select “HS registration”.
7 Base unit/Cordless phone:
Wait until a beep sounds and until both of the displays show the assigned
extension number.
Press (EXIT).

Making/Answering Calls
■ To make a call
When you lift the handset to make a call, the unit will automatically select a
free line.
Using the digital duplex speakerphone:
1 Press (DIGITAL!SP-PHONE).
• The indicator lights.
2 Dial a telephone number.
3 Talk into the MIC (microphone).
4 To hang up, press (DIGITAL!SP-PHONE).
• The indicator light goes out.
• In step 1, you may select a line manually by pressing the line button instead
of (DIGITAL!SP-PHONE).
• To redial the last number: Lift the handset or press (DIGITAL!SP-PHONE),
then press (REDIAL).
• To put a call on hold, Press (HOLD).
• To release the hold, press the line button.
■ To answer a call
Lift the handset.
OR
Press (DIGITAL!SP-PHONE), then talk into the MIC (microphone).
• You can answer a call by pressing the line button instead of
(DIGITAL!SP-PHONE).

Caller ID Service
This unit is compatible with a Caller ID service offered by your telephone
company.
After subscribing to a Caller ID service, the calling party’s information will be
shown on the display after the first ring.
The unit can record information of up to 30 different callers in the caller list.
The Caller List information is sorted from the most recent to the oldest call.
When the unit receives the 31st call, the oldest call is deleted.
If your unit is connected to a PBX system which does not support Caller ID
services, you cannot access those services. Please consult your equipment
supplier.
Voice Mail System
The Voice Mail System allows you to receive and deliver voice messages
using mailboxes. The system accommodates one general delivery mailbox
and a maximum of 8 personal mailboxes which are assigned to the registered
station units. The mailbox numbers are the same as the extension numbers.
The Voice Mail System works fully with the Automated Attendant System,
which routes incoming calls to a specified mailbox and allows a caller to leave
a message. With the Answering System, all calls are routed to the general
delivery mailbox.
You can use the Voice Mail System by accessing your mailbox. Each station
unit user can only access his/her own mailbox. The general delivery mailbox
is managed by the KX-TG4000B base unit user (operator). The extension
users can access this mailbox.
You can also access the Voice Mail System features remotely from a touch
tone phone.
The following features are accessible:
—listening to the recorded messages
—transferring the mailbox messages to the destination mailboxes
—delivering their own messages to the destination mailboxes

Automated Attendant System
Your can set this system to your desired lines to suit your needs.
The automated attendant answers incoming calls and routes the callers to the
base unit or the desired extension.
■ Setting the answer mode
If you turn ON the answer mode of your unit, calls will be greeted with a
greeting message and callers can leave messages in your mailbox. To take
calls, leave this mode OFF (factory preset).
1 While the unit is in the standby mode, press (VOICE!MAIL).
• If you have new messages, listen to all of them.
2 Press (5).
3 To select ON, press (1).
To select OFF, press (2).
4 Press (VOICE!MAIL).
■ Recording a personal greeting message
If the answer mode is ON, callers will hear a pre-recorded personal greeting
message.
You can also record your own greeting message of up to 2 minutes.
1 While the unit is in the standby mode, press (VOICE!MAIL).
• If you have new messages, listen to all of them.
2 Press (3).
3 Press (1).
4 After the tone, talk clearly. To end, press (1).
5 Press (2), and press (VOICE!MAIL).

Listening to Messages
To listen to only new messages in the mailbox:
1 Press (VOICE!MAIL).
• The unit announces the number of new messages and the new
messages are played.
2 After listening to all new messages, press (VOICE!MAIL).
To listen to all new messages in the mailbox:
1 Press (VOICE!MAIL), and press (1).
• The unit announces the number of all messages and plays them back.
2 After listening to all messages, press (VOICE!MAIL).

When programming emergency numbers and/or making test calls to emergency
numbers:
1. Remain on the line and briefly explain to the dispatcher the reason for the call
before hanging up.
2. Perform such activities in the off-peak hours, such as early morning hours or late
evenings.

• Environment — do not place the unit in a room where the temperature is less than
5°C (41°F) or greater than 40°C (104°F). Allow 10 cm (4") clearance around the unit
for proper ventilation. Avoid excessive smoke, dust, mechanical vibration, shock, or
direct sunlight.
• Medical — consult the manufacturer of any personal medical devices, such as
pacemakers, to determine if they are adequately shielded from external RF (radio
frequency) energy. (The unit operates in the frequency range of 2401MHz to
2480MHz, and the power output level can range from 0.04 watts to 0.40 watts.) Do
not use the unit in health care facilities if any regulations posted in the area instruct
you not to do so. Hospitals or health care facilities may be using equipment that
could be sensitive to external RF (radio frequency) energy.
• Routine care — wipe the unit with a soft cloth. Do not use benzine, thinner, or any
abrasive powder. When you leave the unit unused for a long period of time, unplug
the AC adaptor from the outlet.
• If there is any trouble — disconnect the unit from the telephone line and connect a
known working phone. If the known working phone operates properly, have your unit
repaired by one of the authorized Panasonic Factory Service Centers. If the known
working phone does not operate properly, consult your telephone company.
