ELIMINATION OF ACME FITTINGS AND FILTER CHANGES
When installing the WR86X96 filter drier, add
an additional 1/2 ounce to the quantity
stated on the name plate to compensate for
the additional volume of the filter.
WJ56X61
WR86X93
WR86X96
The charging valve (WJ56X61) should be
used at the compressor process tube for
charging the system.
Effective in 2004, ACME fittings are no longer
required when making a repair on R134a
refrigerant systems.
Improvements in refrigerant oil and system
design over the years has shown the danger
of cross-contamination from using the same
hoses to be minimal. All fittings for refrigera-
tion repair will be converted to 1/4" SAE as
inventory of ACME fittings is depleted.
Although R134a and R12 will share a common
fitting size, care must still be taken to prevent
cross-contamination of recovery cylinders.
Label charging and recovery cylinders appro-
priately and follow all refrigeration and safety
procedures.
A new “drier only” design is available for most
refrigeration sealed system repairs.
When installing the WR86X93 drier, recharge
the system with the exact refrigerant charge
stated on the name plate.
The installation of only a drier (WR86X93) is
approved for all sealed system repairs except
in the following situations:
1. Replacing a rotary compressor
2. Compressor burn-out
3. When known contaminates have entered
the system.
For these repairs, the installation of a filter
drier (WR86X96) with extra filtering capacity
is required.
