Applicability This Technical Note applies to the firmware utilised in Tait
Orca 5030, 5035 and 5040 MPT1327 Trunked radios.
1. Introduction
What is in this
Technical Note?
What does it
work with?
The Orca Trunked Firmware v4.22 has been released to
manufacturing to replace the current Firmware (v4.21) being
installed in Tait Orca 5030, 5035 and 5040 Trunked
products.
Version 4.22 Firmware was first implemented in an Orca
TOP-H2620-B0, radio serial number 14219700, job
103007387, and date 21 October 2003.
This Firmware is compatible only with Tait Orca Trunked
Programming Application TOP-TPA v3.8.0 or later.
The TOP-TPA v3.8.0 is available on the Tait Programming
Utilities TPU v3.8.1 CD-ROM, or available for download from
support.taitworld.com.

2. Changes
What has been
resolved in this
release?
The Firmware version 4.22 resolves the following issues in
the Tait Orca 5030, 5035 and 5040:
• Altered radio functionality slightly so that when a radio
initiates a call from a function key, it no longer stores
this call string as the last string sent. This change mainly
affects the Tait Orca 5030 radio. This change was made
to alleviate an issue where a user had an emergency
(*9*) call defined as a function key call. Once the
emergency call had been cleared, a press of the PTT
would result in the last call being setup again. Thus
another emergency call was setup. This no longer
occurs; instead a press of the PTT will call the preset
selected on the 16-way selector. This brings the Tait
Orca 5030 functionality into line with the 5035 and
5040. (Raised as TIMS 21920).
• When the radio switches networks, and revalidation on
power-up is enabled, the radio will revalidate to the new
network. (Raised as TIMS 22032).
• System Error 52 (Invalid Menu Item) no longer occurs
when PTT pressed in response to unanswered call
(However it will still occur under certain error mode
conditions). (Raised as TIMS 21857).
Compliance Issues None, unless a specific Firmware version is required by a
network provider.
