AB1.5.4.3.2.
Congratulations! You are now the proud ownerof a Polar G3 GPS sensor. Polar G3 providesspeed and distance data in all outdoor sportsusing Global Positioning System (GPS)technology. The Polar G3 sensor determines your location bymeasuring the distance between itself and atleast four satellites. The sensor uses PolarW.I.N.D. 2.4 GHz wireless transmissiontechnology to transmit speed and distance datato a compatible Polar product, like the RS800,which records and displays the data.Polar G3 is resilient and water resistant - youcan depend on its performance regardless whereyou train!Using Polar G3 SensorInserting Battery1. See picture 1 on the front cover. Open thebattery cover by turning it counterclockwisewith a coin.2. Place the battery inside with the positive(+) side facing the cover.3. Close the cover by turning it clockwise witha coin.Wearing Polar G3 Sensor1. Push to open the clip (Picture 2).2. Thread the armband loosely through theloops on the clip and fasten (Picture 3).You can fasten the sensor on a belt or onthe top of a backpack without the armband.3. Position the armband round your upper armand fasten (Picture 4). Place the sensorand the Polar product on the same arm.Make sure that the "GPS sensor" text andsymbol are facing upwards and away fromyou.ENGLISH1
Turning Polar G3 Sensor On/OffTo best catch satellite signals, go outdoors andaway from tall buildings and trees. Press thebutton shortly to turn the sensor on. A flashinglight indicates the power mode (low/full). Thena red light will flash as the sensor searches forsatellite signals (Picture 5 a). Acquiring satellitesignals for the first time typically takes 30-60seconds. The sensor will find the signals fasterif you keep the sensor immobile during thesearch. A green light will then flash when thesignals are found and location is determined.Your Polar G3 sensor is now ready for action. The G3 sensor works like a Polar s3 stridesensor in providing speed and distance datato the Polar RS800. All you need to do is enterthe settings as instructed in Using Polar G3Sensor With Polar RS800.To turn the sensor off, press the button for onesecond. The power switches off automatically ifthe sensor cannot locate satellite signals or thesensor location does not change for 15 minutes. For instructions on how speed and distance dataare displayed on your Polar product, please seethe corresponding user manual.Switching Power ModeYou can use the Polar G3 sensor in low or fullpower mode. The default mode is full powermode. By using the low power mode, you canincrease battery life by up to 40 %. Formaximum accuracy of speed and distancemeasurement, use full power mode. When the sensor is activated, press the buttonfor five flashes to change modes. A light flashesfour times on both sides; the green lightindicating full power mode activation or the redlight indicating low power mode activation.ENGLISH2
Everytime you turn the sensor on, the flashinglight indicates which mode is activated.Using Polar G3 Sensor With Polar RS800When combined with the RS800, the G3 is partof the most advanced and powerful trainingsystems available. The G3 communicates speed and distance toyour RS800 like your Polar s3 stride sensordoes, except that it is manually turned on andoff. While the s3 provides running cadence andaverage stride length, the G3 does not. Therefore cadence and stride lengthmeasurement will not work when the G3 sensoris in use, but this will not have any negativeeffect on your speed and distance readings /data file. Also notice that the Running Indexfeature in RS800 is designed for monitoringyour performance only in running sports. PolarG3 sensor and s3 stride sensor cannot be usedat the same time.To use the G3 sensor you need to have thefollowing settings on your RS800.•Switch the speed and distance function onby selecting Settings > Features > Ssensor > On/Off.•The RS800 has to be taught to communicatewith the G3 sensor. The sensor must beturned on before teaching and no s3 sensorshould be nearby. Select Settings >Features > S sensor > New sensor.Teachnew sensor? is displayed. Select Yes toconfirm teaching. Completed! is displayed.•The calibration factor must be 1.000. Youcan set the factor manually by selectingSettings > Features > S sensor >Calibrate. Set the Calibration factor to1.000 and press OK. The sensor is nowcalibrated.ENGLISH3
If speed values exceed 55 km/hour, they aredivided by 10. For example, 56 km/hour willbe displayed 5.6 km/hour.Battery replacementThe red battery indicator light flashes, whenbattery is low (Picture 5 b). Change the batteryyourself by following the instructions in Usingthe Polar G3 Sensor.Use an AA-sized alkaline battery. Werecommend you use a lithium battery orrechargeable NiMH battery in temperatures 5°Cand below. Cold temperature decreases the lifeof an alkaline battery.Keep batteries away from children. Ifswallowed, contact a doctor immediately.Batteries should be disposed of in compliancewith local regulations.Care and MaintenanceThe following instructions will help you fulfillguarantee obligations.•Wash the armband in a washing machine at40°C / 104°F. Use a washing pouch. Do notsoak, nor use detergent with bleach or fabricsoftener. Do not dry-clean. Do not spin-dryor iron.•Clean the sensor with a mild soap and watersolution. Dry it with a towel. Never usealcohol or abrasive materials (steel wool orcleaning chemicals). Never put the sensor ina washing machine or drier.•Keep the sensor and the armband in a cooland dry place. Do not store wet innon-breathing material, such as a sportsbag. Do not expose to direct sunlight forextended periods.ENGLISH4
ServiceDuring the warranty period, service the productat an authorized Polar Service Center only. Thewarranty does not cover damage caused byunauthorized service. See Limited InternationalPolar Guarantee.Using the G3 Sensor in WaterPolar G3 sensor is water resistant. It can besafely worn in the rain or while crossing rivers orcanoeing. The GPS reception system does notfunction under water.TroubleshootingIf speed or distance readings are irregular orshow zero, something in your surroundings maybe blocking satellite signal reception (e.g. abuilding or terrain). If the sensor cannot locatethe satellite signals, it will not be able tocalculate its location. Speed values maytherefore show zero. Distance is measuredbetween the last location before the shadowarea, and the first location after the shadowarea in a straight line, i.e. curves are notcounted. In low speeds (below 3km/hour), accuracydecreases causing variation in speed values. If the button does not react, press it for tengreen light flashes to reset the sensor. The redlight flashes twice on both sides when thesensor resets. If this does not work, the batterymay be empty.ENGLISH5
