2. INTRODUCTIONTogether with a Polar cycling computer (CS600X,CS600 and CS500), Polar LOOK Kéo Powersystem provides the following training information:• Actual, average and maximum power values• Left/Right Balance (CS600X and CS600 only)• Cycling cadence• Cycling efficiency (CS600X and CS600 only)For information on the power features of yourcycling computer, refer to the user manual of thecycling computer in question. The latest versions of the user manuals can bedownloaded at www.polar.fi/support andwww.lookcycle.com/en/int/infos/support-technique/index.html.For video tutorials of the Polar LOOK Kéo Power,go to www.polar.fi/en/support/video_tutorials orwww.lookcycle.com.The power output measurement of the Polar LOOKKéo Power system is based on strain gauges. There are eight strain gauges attached to eachpedal axle. Each pedal axle has two measuringcircuits, and each circuit has four strain gauges. The force applied to the pedals bends the axleslightly, and causes the strain gauges to lengthenor shorten. This leads to a change in theresistance of the gauges. By measuring the changein resistance, the force applied to each pedal canbe determined, and the power output generatedwhile cycling can be measured. Cycling cadence ismeasured with a magnet located in the pedal.ENGLISH4Introduction
The power output measurement is performedsimultaneously from both pedals with identicalmeasurement systems. This enables accuratecomparison of left and right leg power output. Thetotal power output of the cyclist is the sum of thepower outputs of both legs. The right transmittersends the power output and cadence data from theright pedal to the left transmitter. The lefttransmitter then sends the power output andcadence data from both pedals to the cyclingcomputer.READ THIS FIRST!Bicycle riding is an inherently dangerous activity. To reduce the risk of serious injury, be sure yourbicycle is adequately maintained and that allcomponents are correctly installed and adjusted.Always wear a helmet and follow the rules of theroad when cycling. Do not rely on reflectors.Always use a proper headlight and tail lights whenriding at any time of reduced visibility.Kéo Power pedals are not intended for beginningcyclists, and they are not designed to releaseautomatically in a fall or crash. Proper use byskilled riders will increase riding efficiency andperformance, but pedals may be an aggravatingfactor in the event of a fall or collision. Do not useyour Kéo Power pedals with ‘street’ shoes or withcleats other than LOOK Kéo cleats, as your feetmay slip off and cause a crash.• This Kéo Power pedal is construction andoptimized to be used by cyclists less than 100kgs (220.5 lbs).• Before going on the road, make sure you areused to the function of your new pedals.• Practice engaging and disengaging your newpedals while stationary, and train yourselfmentally to disengage your pedals at every stopor in other situations where you may need tosteady yourself with a foot on the ground.ENGLISHIntroduction 5
• The material of the Kéo cleats is especiallydesigned to be compatible with the body of yourKéo. Using other than LOOK Kéo cleats canseriously damage your pedals, and creates a realrisk of malfunction.• Please read these instructions carefully andcompletely before installing or using thesepedals, and keep these instructions in a safeplace for future reference. If you have anyquestions during the installation or adjustmentof your Kéo Power pedals, please contact yourauthorized dealer.• LOOK reserves the right to change productspecifications without prior notice.LIFESPAN - WEAR - INSPECTION REQUIREMENTThe Iifespan of LOOK components depends onmany factors, such as rider size and ridingconditions. Impacts, falls, improper use or harshuse in general may compromise the structuralintegrity of the components and significantlyreduce their Iifespan. Some components are alsosubject to wear over time. Please have your bicycleregularly inspected by a qualified mechanic forany cracks, deformation, signs of fatigue or wear.If the inspection reveals any deformation, cracks, impact marks or stress marks, no matter howslight, immediately replace the component;components that have experienced excessive wearalso need immediate replacement. The frequencyof inspection depends on many factors; check withyour authorized LOOK representative to select aschedule that is best for you. If you weigh 85kg/185 Ibs or more, you must be especiallyvigilant and have your bicycle inspected morefrequently (than someone weighting less than 85kg/185 Ibs) for any evidence of cracks, deformation, or other signs of fatigue or stress.ENGLISH6Introduction
