62.IntroductionThis Product guide gives information about the installation, and setting of theeGenKitdata loggerdevice.TheeGenKitis a Telemetry data acquisition and system controldatalogger which primary purposeisto be used in stationary or mobile Diesel-Power-Generator-Control (Gen-set Controller) facilities.However this data logger device mayalso be used for other data monitoring and control industrialequipments (i.e. Power Metering, Programmable Logic Control–PLC, etc) thathavea RS485Modbus interfacetothe logger. Please checkAppendix Afor the type and model of theGen-setcontrollerequipments supported witheGenKit.The main functions and features ofeGenKitlogger are to provide:Remote monitoring andsimplediagnostic of power generator equipments via the internet.Send control signal to remote Gen-set Controller.SendSMSand email to alert Gen-set service personnel andengineers when a Gen-setController alarm has been trigger, which requires technical personnel attention and servicing.Dataloggingand transmissionof Gen-set activities.Reports the earth geographic position of theeGenKitlogger device using Global PositioningSystem (GPS), and therefore locatesthe power Gen-set equipments locationon theserverwebpage.TheeGenKitis astandalone data logger (Remote Terminating Unit-RTU) which can be connected tomostdiesels Gen-set Controller which has a RS485 Modbus interface. The RS485 Modbus is themost common serial interface found in most Gen-set Controller and industrial equipments. Via thetwo wires RS485Modbusinterface theeGenKitdata logger is able to monitor the status of thegenerator, and to send out signals that control the generator. Service personnel located anywhere inthe world who needs to check the status or send out control signals to the Gen-set Controller can nowdo so once they are accessed to the Master Terminating Computer Server via the internet, which theeGenKitlogger communicates to.TheeGenKitstandalone data logger has two different options of connecting to its Computer Server(housed and maintained by Power Instrumentsin Singapore). It can either connect using EthernetLAN cable or wireless GPRS (a GSM SIM card with GPRS enabled from the local service provider isrequired) connection. The programmable firmware inside the logger devices will decide whether itwill choose to connect using LAN or GPRS. The default setting is GPRS. Once powered on thelogger will connect to it’s service provider and link itself to theeGenKitdefaultServer located inSingapore via the internet. You may also be connected to additional servers maintained in other parts
7of the world to speed up the connectivity depending on your location. Authorized service personneleach with an individual login user name and password shall be able to logon to theeGenKit(http://www.eGenKit.com) serverwebpageto monitor and control the whole event happening at thegenerator side.The server webpage is specially designed to provide a clearview animatedcircuitdiagramof thedieselpower generator, busbarand circuit breakers status and conditions. Variousindividual and collective parameters like Line and Phase Voltage, Current, kW, kVA, kVAR,Frequency, Power Factor, logging events and alarm signals, etc are constantly updated and archivedonto the server computersystem, enabling personnel to remotely access all information. In the eventwhen the internet connection is down or the GPRS signal is lost, the parameters of the generatorrelative to time are being captured andsavedon to the 1GB USB flash memory inside theeGenKitRTU data logger. These collected data information will then be sent back to the server to be archivedonce internet connection is established again.During faultdetection when the generator controllerissues an autonomous alarm signal due to generator malfunction or drastic fluctuation in measurementparameters, theeGenKitlogger will capture the alarm status, update theserver. The system willactivate aSMSautomatically to alert the generator plant duty service personnel of the warning statusas soon as the alarm is raised on the unit. At the same time the server will also issue an email toinform designated personnel on the warning alarm event.There is a built in GPS module inside theeGenKitlogger which purpose is to identify it’s own geographical position and therefore thegenerator facility location. The purpose for this feature is to provide geographical identification ofeach generator location whenmanaging multiple power generator facilities. This feature also easestracking the location of mobile diesel power generators.TheeGenKitlogger is designed tooperateat 24 hours, 7 days a week monitoring of the diesels powergenerators.In the event when GPRS is disconnected deliberately or due to GSM network failure, alldata events will be log and saved inside the loggerinternal memory.The system has an optiontoallow user tooperates in GPRS sleeping mode function which the loggerwill be activate via SMS(automatically send out by Power Instruments international Bulk SMSservice)to connect to the internet server once a user is log in to the server webpage to view the plantactivity, thus optimizingthe GPRS connection duration. The GPRS connection remains connected foran hour even after the user has log off from the webpage. Thereafter the loggerwill go into GPRSsleeping mode again.
