Because of its convenient compact size. you can use it al- most anywhere. You can mount it ‘n a veh‘r cle for mobile use. or in your home or oliioe for use as a base station. Your CB has these advanced features. Emergency Channel Switch — lets you quickly switch to channel 9 or 19 to monitor or report emergency situations. 1X (Transmit) and FIX (Receive) Indicators — light to show when the CE is transmitting or receiving. Full Legal Power — gives you the full range ol CB channels with the maximum allowed transmit power. UpIDown channel Selector 7 lets you eas- ily select a channel with the press of a but- ton. Adlustable Squelch — helps to eliminate noise between transmissions Automatic Noise Limiter (ANL) Clreult — reduces impulse-type noise during reception. S-Pln DIN Mlc Connector — uses five prongs to reinforce a clear connection be- tween the mic and the receiver. Automatic Modulatlon — prevents the transmitter signal lrorn over-modulating and distorting. (PLL) Frequency Syntheslzer — provides highly accurate and stable tuning. Crystal-Controlled Digital Tuning —pro- vides precise transmission tuning capability when selecting a channel. However, you must know Part 95 ot FCC Rules. These rules ap- ply to the operation of a Class D CB. We have provided a copy of these regulations with your CB radio, Warning: Do not open your CB radio to make any internal adjustments A CB radio ls set up to transmit a regulated signal on an assigned frequency. It is against the law to alter or adjust the settings inside the unit to exceed these llmitatlons. Follow these steps to mount the CB using the supplied hardware. 1. Using the mounting bracket as a tem- plate, mark the positions for the screw holes on the mounting surface. 2. In each marked location, drill a pilot hole slightly smaller than the two ‘bimh (5-mm) mounting screws. caution: Be carelul not to drill into obiects behind the mounting surtme. 3. Mount the bracket to the mounting sur- face with the ‘ls-inch (5-mm) mounting screws, spring washers, plain washers. and nuts. Mounting Surface Note: It you cannot reach behlnd the mounting surface to attach the nuts on the bolts, use the ‘/s-inch (5-mm) tspered-tlp screws and plain washers to secure the bracket. 4. Attach the CB to the mounting bracket using the two rubber washers and mounting knobs. CONNECTING AN ANTENNA There are many different types at antennas for rmbt‘ie CBS. each with its own benefits. You can choose one that best fits your needs, available at your local RadioShack store. Note: If you are using this CB as a base sta- tion, see “Using the CB as a Base Station" on Page 7. Then route the cable to the CB and connect the cable to ANTEN- NA on the back at the CB. 6 lnsbflallbn Gee zTinmm Page 7 Tuesday, lune 21,1000 2 n m Cautions: - Avoid routing the cable next to sharp edges or moving parts which might dam— age the cable. - Do not run the cable next to power cables or other radio antenna cables. - Do not run the cable througi a vehicle’s engine compartment or other areas that produce extreme heat. To take advantage oi your radio’s maximum range. adjust the antenna’s Standing Wave Ratio (SWR) using an SWR meter, available at your local RadioShack store. Follow the instructions supplied with the SWFt meter and antenna to adjust your an— tenna’s SWR to the lowest pomibte value. SWFt values oi 2.0:1 are generally accept- able. with readings at 1.511 or lower being more desirable. CONNECTING THE MICROPHONE 1. Press the plastic tab on the stpplied microphone‘s plug and align the S-pin DIN microphone plug with the corre- sponding pin holes In the 03‘s MIC leek. Then push the plug into the lack. 2. Slide the microphone onto the micro- phone holder. To disconnect the microphone lrom the CB, press the plastic tab on the side of the plug, then pull out the plug. of“? Caution: Never pull on the microphone ca- bIe. USING VEHICLE BATTERY POWER Follow these steps to connect the CB to vehi- cle battery power, 1. Connect the red wire (with in-Iine fuse holder) to a point in your ve icle's fuse block that has power only when the igniA tion ' “n the ACC or ON position. 2. Connect the black wire to a metal part of the vehicle's frame (chassis ground). Ground Caution: Do not connect the black wire to a non~metelllc (plastic) part, or to any part insulated lrorn the vehlcle's chessls by a nowmetalllc pert, USING THE CB AS A BASE STATION Although this CB redlo ls deslgned mainly tor mobile use, you can also use it as a base station with an AC power source.
