This Thermostat comes preprogrammed with an Energy- M
Star“ approved program.This program is recommended by
the EPA for energy efficiency.
We strongly recommend that you Auto-Hun this program for one week, and
see if it works for you. If It does not fit your needs you can always Input a
custom program.
- To Auto-Run the Energy-Star" program, select HEAT or COOL with the
mode switch. The unit' Is now running the Energy- -Slar"‘ program
- The clock is displayed on the left. The ambient temperature is displayed In
the the center of the LCD touch screen.The TIME SLOT icon indicates the
TIME SLOT active in the Energy-Star“program.
- The programmed temperature' is shown on the lower right. For program
details refer to the Energy-Ster‘M program chart below.

60 seconds, the unit will return to the home screen. Everything you have
changed while programming will automatically be saved.

- HEAT 45F or COOL 90F will be displayed, you can modify this temperature.
- Your system is In AWAY mode. Touch HOME to return to operation.
The AWAY icon will flash Indicating you have changed the Target Temp.

- Swing cutting determines the temperature difference from -I
ON to OFF that the thermostat will command the HVAC system to run.
- With the MODE switch in HEAT or COOL, press the MENU button.
- Touch the SWING icon and the current setting of temp V
- To change the swing, touch the left or right arrows. ’
The furnace will cycle more at the lower numbers as it
tries to keep your set pomt constant.
The 8082 has a feature that keeps track of actual furnace run time and
reminds you to periodically replace your system's air filter.

- When the batteries are low, the battery icon will come on and flash.
The two AA Batteries in the unit need to be replaced. In some Installations
! your heater system will stop functioning when the thermostat loses power. i
- Replace batteries as soon as you see this warning. The thermostat
programs will remain for 30 seconds while the batteries are changed.
- Do not take longer than 00 ace to change the batteries in your unit or
you will lose all custom settings and all programming. Only the Energy-
Star'" program will remain. Once the batteries are replaced, the system will '
return to normal in 2 seconds. .

You will need #1 Phillips screwdriver (smell) and
Drill with 3/1 G-irl. (4.5mm) D“ for this Installation.
- On replacement installations, mount the new thermostat in place ol‘ the f
old one lf possible. ’
- On new Installations, follow the guidelines listed below.
. Locate the thermostat on an inside wall, about 5 ft. (1 .5m) above the
floor, and in a room that is used often.
- Do not install it where there are unusual heating conditions, such as: in
dlrecr sunlight: neara lamp, radio, television, raulator register, or
fireplace; near hot water pipes in a wall; near a stove on the other side

- Do not locate in a damp area.
This can lead to corrosion that will shorten thermostat life.

- Do not install the unit until all construction work and painting has been
completed.

2 Remove old unit
- Switch electricity to the furnace and air conditioner OFF,-
then proceed with the following steps.
- Remove cover from old thermostat. Most are snap-on types and simply
mill olf. Some have locking screws an the side nr lrnnt, These must he
loosened. Note the letters printed near the terminals. Attach labels
(enclosed) to each wire for identification.

3 Mount the 8082
v separate tram 1mm back of unn. Press up on
the catch on bottom of thermostat and swing the body away from the
base, lift up to remove the body from the base.
- Remove and label the wires one at a time.
’ Make sure the Wires do not tall back inside the wall.
- Wlnd them around a pencil to keep them from falling
. Loosen all screws on the old thermostat and
remove it from the well.
- Hold the base against the wall, with the wires coming through the
opening below the terminal block. Tum-M
- Position the base tor best appearance
- Attach the base to the well With the two screws
provided.
it you are mounting the base to sheet rock or if you
are using the aid mounting hulee, use the plastic
anchors provided. Drill a 3/16-1n.(4.8mm) hole for the
insert at each screw location, then mount the base.
- Strip insulation 3/8 in. (9.5mm) from wire ends. 3
Take care not to damage the labels for each wire in handling. ‘
- Connect labeled wires to terminal with corresponding letter. ‘
- Bend the wire slightly, insert the wire under the contact plate
and tighten the screw down onto the wire.
- If the original wires were not labeled, or had different labels,
use the wiring reference below to verify your connections.

If there is a wire marked "C", connect it. This thermostat is designed to run off the
24VAC power of the O wlre, extending battery life up to 5 times. If there Is no "C"
wire, the thermostat runs on batteries and/or can borrow power (See page10).

body down, and snap the body onto the base.
5 Install Batteries
- The GPMG 8082requires batteries to
operate your furnace and retain its
proorammlno in memory.
- Switch MODE ewltch to OFF and
. the FAN switch to AUTO.
i - Remove the unit from the wall turn it
, 1 over and install 2 AA alkaline battenes
according to the polarity noted in the
g compartment.
i - Press the RESET button to clear
5 transient program memory. Initially, all
i LCD segments will go oh.
NOTE: Replace the batteries when this LOW battery indicator
appears on the display or once a year. When replacing
batteries, you have approximately half minute before your
PG 7 custom program is lost.

Follow these procedures to verily you have correctly installed the unit.
- To check HEAT mode: 8:1leer mun )
Set the mode switch to HEAT. Set the tan swltch AUTO.
- Touch the main temperature display than
touch the TEMP UP arrow to raise the set
point to 90deg.Touch HOME, Allow the
system 5 min to respond.
- Verl‘ly that heat is blowing from the system.
- To check COOL mode:
- Bot the mode switch to Door
- Touch the main temperature dlsplay then touch J )
the TEMP DOWN button to a temp 5 degrees m Mods
below the room temperature. Touch HOME. omen swim
- Allow the system 5 min to respond.Verlfy that
cool air Is blowing from the system.

Note: If you have an electric furnace system and the blower does
nor operate alter installation, remove the thermootot, turn it
over, and find the electric/gas heat selector lumper on the
back of the control unit. Switch the Gas/Elect. jumper to
Eloot. to "Eloet'(soo Ding below)
Congratulations, you have successfully installed your unit.
Please proceed to the OPERATING Guide to initialize the new thermostat.

7 Power Options
: This option works with

The batteries will last well over 1 year. It the batteries are not replaced the
thermostat will stop working. Use the MVIc power jumper position.
2) The 8082 can run on the c wlre It avallable. 24VAC ONLY
As shown in the wiring diagrams, The C wire is the other side of the 24VAC
heating transformer. If the C wire Is used, the batteries are then for Ac power
loss only and will last much longer. The lhermootnt will continue working it the
batteries dle. Use the MVIC power |umper position.

Power for the thermostat comes trom the W and HH wires. The batteries are
then tor AC powerless only and will last much longer. The thermostat will

temperature setting of the system.
The remote beeps to let you know it is working. The main unit beeps when it
recieves a remote command. The OVEHRiDE icon comes on which sham the
displayed temperature may be different from the programmed setting.
