DOCSIS 3.0 Wireless Gateway Installation Instructions Important Safety Instructions Read these instructions before you begin When using your equipment, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of ire, electric shock, and injury to persons, including the following: • • • • • • • • • • • • Read and follow these instructions. Keep these instructions. Heed all warnings. Only use attachments/accessories speciied by the manufacturer. Do not install near any heat sources. Clean only with a dry cloth. Do not block any ventilation openings. Use only with the cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table speciied by the manufacturer, or sold with the apparatus. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time. Refer all servicing to qualiied service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as when a power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped. Do not alter or disable the polarized or grounding-type (three-pronged) plug. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus. SMC Wireless Gateway complies with applicable requirements for performance, construction, labeling, and information when used in accordance with the instructions below: WARNING: Risk of Shock Mains voltages inside this unit. No user serviceable parts inside. Refer service to qualiied personnel only! Avoid using and/or connecting the equipment during an electrical storm, to avoid risk of electrocution. Tout entretien doit être effectué par du personnel qualiié seulement! • Do not use this product near water (i.e. wet basement, bathtub, sink or near a swimming pool, etc.) to avoid risk of electrocution. • Avoid using and/or connecting the equipment during an electrical storm, to avoid risk of electrocution. • Do not locate the equipment within 6 feet (1.9m) of a lame or ignition source (i.e. heat registers, space heaters, ireplaces, etc.). • Only use power supply and power cord included with the equipment. • Equipment should be installed near the power outlet and should be easily accessible. • The shield of the coaxial cable must be connected to earth (Grounded) at the entrance to the building in accordance with applicable national electrical installation codes. In the U.S., this is required by NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) Article 820. In the European Union and in certain other countries, CATV installation equipment bonding requirements are speciied in IEC 60728-11, Cable networks for television signals, sound signals and interactive service, Part 11: Safety. This equipment is intended to be installed in accordance with the requirements of IEC 60728-11 for safe operation. • In areas of high surge events or poor grounding situations and areas prone to lightning strikes, additional surge protection may be required on the AC, and Ethernet cables. Package Contents • • • • 1 – Wireless Data Gateway 1 – Power Supply and AC Power Cord 1 – CAT-5 Ethernet cable 1 – These Installation Instructions Installation Overview 1. Connect the coaxial cable from the cable outlet to the Gateway. 2. Connect your wired connections (Ethernet and USB) to the rear panel as shown in the diagram below. 3. Connect the power supply to the Gateway and to a wall power outlet. WARNING: Use only the provided power supply! Using a different power supply may damage your unit and void the warranty. Conirm the front panel POWER LED is ON. 5. Wait until the DS, US and ONLINE LED stop lashing and the ONLINE LED stays ON indicating that the device is online. If the ONLINE LED does not go ON in 5 minutes, contact your Internet Service Provider. 6. If your computer or wireless client device supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), press the WPS button on the front panel for 5 seconds to enable WPS. 7. Press the WPS button on your computer or wireless client within 60 seconds to complete association process. When a client joins the network, the WPS LED stays ON until the next WPS action or the device reboots. If no client joins, the LED stops blinking after 4 minutes. NOTE: You must set up your computer and other wireless client devices to work with security settings on this device. Refer to the documentation for your wireless client devices for instructions on setting security. 8. (Optional): Log in to conigure additional device settings. • Open a Web browser page and type http://192.168.0.1 in the address bar. • At the Login screen, enter the following login information: (NOTE: Username and password are case sensitive.) DOCSIS 3.0 Wireless Gateway Installation Instructions Wall-Mounting the Gateway You can mount the Gateway on a wall by hanging the unit along its width using the two wall mount keyhole slots on the side of the unit. WARNING: Wall-mount the Gateway to concrete or plaster wallboard with anchor inserts. Before drilling holes, check the structure for potential damage to water, gas, or electric lines. Use 3.5 mm x 40-50 mm (#6 x 1.5-2 in.) pan head screws with a maximum screw head diameter of 6.5 mm (0.25 in.) to mount the Gateway. 2. Use a center punch to mark the location on the wall for each mounting screw. The screws must be oriented horizontal to each other and spaced at 101.6 mm (4 in.) on center. 3. Drill holes to a depth and diameter appropriate for the size and type of hardware you have selected. 4. Using a screwdriver, turn each screw until the head protrudes from the wall so that there is a distance of 12.5 mm (0.5 in.) between the wall and the underside of the screw head. 5. Orient the Gateway with the mounting keyholes above the mounting screws, and then slide the Gateway down so it stops against the top of the keyhole opening. 6. Reconnect the coaxial cable and Ethernet cables. Reconnect the power cord to the Gateway and the electrical outlet. Copyright ©2013 SMC Networks.
