Congratulationsl You havejust purchased a T0095 approved and labelled product] Your choice
has provided you with a product developed for professional use. Your purchase has also
contributed to reducing the burden on the environment and lo the further development of
environmentally-adapted electronic products.
Why do we have environmentally-labelled monitors?
In many countries. environmental labelling has become an established method tor encouraging
the adaptation ot‘goods and services to the envionmenlflhe main problem as tar as monitors and
other electronic equipment are concerned Is that envlronmenlally harmful substanus are used
both in the products and during thelr manufacture. Since It has not been possible so tar for the
majority of electronic equipment to be recycled In a sallstactory way. most or these potentially
damaging substances sooneror later enter Nature.
There are also other dtaractotisfics ot a monitor. such as energy consumption levels, that are
important from both the working and natutal envionmenl viewpoints. Since all types of
eenvenlienel electricity generation have a negative ettect on the environment (acidic and climate
influencing emissions, radioactive vests. etc.) it is vital to conserve energy. Electronic equipment
in otflces consumes an enormous amount or energy, since it is alien routinely Iolt running
continuously.
What does labelling Involve?
This product meets the requirements tor the T0085 scheme. which provides tor International
environmental labelling ot monitors. The labellitg scheme was developed as a joint effort by the
TCO (The Swedish Contedelation 0! Professional Employees), Naturskyddslnraningan (The
Swedish Society tor Nature conservation) and NUTEK (The National Board tor Industrial and
Technical Development in Sweden).
The requirements cwerawide range ensues: environment, ergonomics, usability, emission of
electrical and magnetic fields, energy consumption and electrical and tire satiety.
The environmental demands condom among outer firings restrictions on the presence and use at
heavy metals, brominated and cltlorilflted flame retardants, CFCs (treuns). and chlorinated
solvents. The product must be prepared for recycling and the manutacturer is obliged to have an
environmental plan, which must be adhered to in each country where the company conducts its
operations policy. The energy requirements include a demand that the monitor after a certain
period or inactivity shall reduce its pflwHODlBIlmflfinll to a lower level. in one or more stages. The
length at time to reactivate the month shall be reasonable tor the user.
Labelled products must metsfidenlvimnmental demands, tor example in respect of the
reduction or electric and magnetic fields. along with physical and visual ergonomics and good
usability.

I. I5 Ihe antenna I use for exisfing TV reception good enough for DTV?
Oventheair (OTA) digital TV broadcasting uses the same channels as analog TV and works well
wilh many existing TV antennas. However, DTV broadcast channel assignmenls are dilferenl than
analog channels. You should find oul whether your local DTV broadcasts are an VHF (channels
2-13) or UHF (channels 14-69] to see if you need a dilleronl anisnna.
Il your DTV channels are an UHF and you already gel good UHF receplion, your present anlenna
may work line. The same holds true for VHF DTV reception. Nate that in same markets, both VHF
and UHF channels are used lor DTV broadcasls.
You can lind out the latest DTV channel assignmenls for your area by browsing selecled Internet
web sites such as www.lilanrv.com and wwchcgov.
2. Haw difficull is it la receive D'I'V signals indoors?
This depends on whelher your local DTV stations are running full power or not and how close your
localian is to the lransmission tower. DTV receivers do no! require as much signal as analog TV
receivers la praduce highquality images and sound
Once the DTV signal level exceeds a certain threshold at the receiver, the digital video and audlo
dala is decoded at the same quality il was originally encoded lor broadcast.
This is a big advantage for DTV over analog TV- there is no noise, ghosting, static, or scralchy
audio.
3. How can I connect an antenna in my townhouse, cooperative apartment,
condominium, or apartment?
The Federal Communications Commission's OTARD Rule (port cl the Telecommunicatians Act of
1996) allows residents of condomlniums, townhouse, or members of neighborhood asscciatians ta
pul up aulside antennas for reception of broadcast TV signals as long as those anlennas are not
Iacaled in common areas and are no more than 12' in height,
Residenls of rental units (apartments, etc.) are nol covered by ihe OTARD rules and will have re use
indoor antennas ta receive DTV broadcasts. ll is possible Illol the landlord of an apartment complex
can provide broadcasl DTV signals via a master TV unlenna syslem in each aparlmenl.
4. Can I connect my DTV seMop receiver lo my cable TV service?
Cable TV systems use a different mellwd lor Iransmilling digital TV programs that is currently
incompatible with broadccsl DTV sestap receivers. So you will still need lo use an outdoor ar
indoor antenna to receive OTA broadcasl DTV programs.
The gaad news is that you won'l have lo pay a monthly or per-program charge in watch OTA DTV
and HDTV programs. They're lree, unlike wbscriplion salellile TV or premium cable TV. All you
need is an anlenna and 0 DTV sol—lop receiver Io enioy clear, sharp widescreen images and
high-quality audio.
