Preface: Safety Information2Please read and follow these instruc-tions when connecting and using yourcomputer monitor.1Before connecting the AC powercord to an outlet, make sure thevoltage designation on your moni-tor corresponds to the local elec-trical supply.2Never insert anything metallic intothe monitor openings. Doing somay create the danger of electricshock.3To avoid electric shock, nevertouch the inside of the monitor.Only a qualified technician shouldopen the monitor’s case.4Never use your monitor if thepower cord has been damaged.Do not allow anything to rest onthe power cord, and keep the cordaway from where people couldtrip over it.5Be sure to hold the plug, not thecord, when disconnecting themonitor from an electric socket.6Openings in the monitor cabinetare provided for ventilation. Toprevent overheating, these open-ings should not be blocked or cov-ered. Also, avoid using the monitoron a bed, sofa, rug, or other softsurface. Doing so may block theventilation openings in the bottomof the cabinet. If you put the moni-tor in a bookcase or some otherenclosed space, be sure to pro-vide adequate ventilation.7Put your monitor in a location withlow humidity and a minimum ofdust. Avoid places like damp basements or dusty hallways.8Do not expose the monitor to rainor use it near water (in kitchens,next to swimming pools, etc.). Ifthe monitor accidentally gets wet,unplug it and contact an autho-rized dealer immediately. You canclean the monitor with a dampcloth when necessary, but be sureto unplug the monitor first.9Place the monitor on a solid sur-face and treat it carefully. Thescreen is made of glass and canbe damaged if dropped or sharplyhit. 10Locate your monitor near an easilyaccessible AC outlet.11If your monitor does not operatenormally – in particular, if thereare any unusual sounds or smellscoming from it – unplug it immedi-ately and contact an authorizeddealer or service center.12High temperatures can causeproblems. 5Chapter Two: InstallationConnecting Your Monitorto a Computer1Turn off your computer and unplugits power cord.2Connect the signal cable to the D-SUB or BNC signal port on theback of your monitor.3If you are using a Macintosh com-puter, connect the other end of thesignal cable to a Macintoshadapter. (The adapter is not includ-ed with your monitor. Contact yourdealer for more information.) If youare using an IBM-compatible com-puter, skip to step 5.4Follow the instructions includedwith your adapter to set the pinson your adapter, if necessary.5Connect the signal cable (with theadapter if necessary) to the videoport on the back of your computer.This port might be directly attached to your computer, or itmight be part of a video board,video card, or graphics card.6Connect the power cord for yourmonitor to the power port on theback of the monitor.7Plug the power cords of your com-puter and your monitor into a near-by outlet.8Turn on your computer and mon-itor. 6OverviewYour Samsung SyncMaster computer monitor allows youto easily adjust the characteristics of the image being displayed. All of these adjustments are made using thecontrol buttons on the front of the monitor. These buttonsoperate the on-screen menu, which shows you the monitor’s settings and allows you to change those set-tings1BrightnessThis feature will adjust the overall brightness of thedisplay image. Once you have adjust-ed one of these features, push the button once or twiceto turn off the display.PositionFollow these instructions to change the position of themonitor’s entire display.1With the menu off, push the         button. The posi-tion display will appear.2Use the ▲and ▼buttons to change the verticalposition of the monitor’s entire display; use the $and %buttons to change the horizontal position ofthe monitor’s entire display.Size Follow these instructions to change the size of the moni-tor’s entire display.1With the menu off, push the         button twice. Thesize display will appear.2Push the ▲or ▼buttons to change the vertical sizeof the monitor’s display; push the $or %buttons tochange the horizontal size of the monitor’s display.Pincushion/Trapezoid Adjust the pincushion setting when the sides of the dis-play are bowed in or bowed out; adjust the trapezoid set-ting when the top or bottom of the display is too large ortoo small.1With the menu off, push the              button. 8Chapter Three: Adjusting Your MonitorParallel/RotationAdjust the parallelogram setting when the display is lean-ing left or right; adjust the rotation setting when the entiredisplay is tilted left or right.1With the menu off, push the               button twice.The parallelogram/rotation display will appear.2Use the $button or %button to adjust the parallelsetting; use the ▲button or ▼button to adjust therotation setting.Menu FeaturesThe following features can all be accessed using yourmonitor’s on-screen menu system. Follow the instructionsbelow to adjust the features. Once you are finished making adjustments to a feature,push the MENU button to return to the Main Menu, thenpush MENU again to turn off the menu.Color TemperatureFollow these steps to change the color temperature set-ting. Color temperature is a measure of the “warmth” ofthe image colors.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the$button or %button until the “Color Temperature”screen is displayed.2Push the         button. 9Chapter Three: Adjusting Your MonitorColor ControlYou can change the settings of the saturation and hue ofthe monitor’s display.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the$button or %button until the “Color Control”screen is displayed.2Push the         button. The color control adjustscreen will appear.3Use the $button or %button to adjust the satura-tion setting; use the ▲button or ▼button to adjust the hue.DegaussThe Degauss feature will remove color impurities causedby magnetic fields. Do not use the Degauss feature morethan once within a 30-minute period.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the$button or %button until the “Degauss” screen isdisplayed.2Push the        button. The monitor will execute thedegauss function, then display the degaussingscreen.3After a few seconds, the degauss main menu willappear.Note: The monitor may buzz momentarily, the imagecolors may change and the image will jiggle for afew seconds. These effects are normal.RecallUse the recall feature to reset these monitor settings to theiroriginal levels: position, size, pincushion, trapezoid, parallel-ogram, pinbalance, rotation, and clear moire .1With the menu off, push the MENU button. The recall select screen willappear.3Push the $button to select “YES.” If you don’t wantto reset the monitor, use the %button to select“NO.”NOTE: If you have selected “YES,” all settings listedabove will be reset. All other settings will remainthe same.CAUTION: This operation resets all of the data in theuser memory area for the current timing signal.Menu PositionYou can change the position where the menu appears onyour monitor.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the$button or %button until the “Menu Position”screen is displayed2Push the        button. The menu position adjustmentscreen will appear.3Use the ▲,▼,$or %buttons to place the menu inthe position you prefer.Menu DurationThe menu will automatically turn off if no adjustments aremade for a certain time period. You can set the amount oftime the menu will wait before it turns off.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the$button or %button until the “Menu Duration”screen is displayed.2Push the        button. 11D-SUB / BNCUse this menu to choose between the signal source con-nected to the BNC connector input and the signal sourceconnected to the D-SUB connector input.  1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the$button or %button until the “D-SUB / BNC”screen is displayed.2Push the         button. The D-SUB / BNC selectscreen will appear.3Use the $botton or %buttons to select “BNC” or“D-SUB”.NOTE: When you are finished, wait few seconds andthe screen will blank then display the image fromthe new signal source (other computer). An con-nected to both inputs to use this function.PinbalanceAdjust the pinbalance setting when the sides of the dis-play are bowed towards the left or right.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the$button or %button until the “Pinbalance” screenis displayed.2Push the         button. The pinbalance adjustmentscreen will appear.3Use the $button or %button to adjust the pinbal-ance setting.Clear MoireA “moire” pattern can appear on your screen, looking likea series of concentric circles or arcs. To eliminate thispattern, adjust the clear moire.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the$button or %button until the “Clear Moire”screen is displayed.2Push the        button. 123LanguageFollow these steps to change the language used in themenu. This adjustment only changes the language of themonitor’s menu; it does not change the language of anyother software.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the$button or %button until the “7 Languages”screen is displayed.2Push the         button. The language selectionscreen will appear.3Use the ▲button or ▼ button to select the lan-guage you would like to use.Display TimingThis screen displays the settings that are available toyour monitor. This screen only displays this information;you cannot select a new setting.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the$button or %button until the “Display Timing”screen is displayed.2Push the         button. The Factory Timing screen willappear.3Use the ▲button or ▼ button to display the userand factory timing.Video Input LevelThis feature will select the video signal level.1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the$button or %button until the “Video Input Level”screen is displayed.2Push the        button. 133Use the $or %buttons to select 0.7V or 1.0V.NOTE: Some video cards use video singals higherthan 1.0V which causes the display to be very bright.For those video cards should be selected 1.0V.Sync. Input TypeUse this menu to set your monitor to the correct type ofsynchronization. Select “Separate”if the computer issending a separate synchronization signal. Select “Sync.On Green” if the computer expects the monitor to syn-chronize with the green signal it sends. Refer to yourcomputer or video card user’s manual to determine thecorrect setting. 1With the menu off, push the MENU button. Push the$button or %button until the “Sync. Input Type”screen is displayed.2Push the         button. The sync input type selectionscreen will appear.3Use the ▲button or ▼button to select “Separate”or “Sync. 143Chapter Three: Adjusting Your MonitorPowerSaverThis monitor has a built-in power management systemcalled PowerSaver. This system saves energy by switch-ing your monitor into a low-power mode when it has notbeen used for a certain amount of time.  The availablemodes are “On,” “Standby,” “Suspend,” and “Off.”This system operates with  a VESA DPMS compliantvideo card installed in your computer.
