Viewing an External Signal SourceSelecting the Signal SourceUse the remote control to switch between viewing signals from connected equipment, such asVCRs, DVD, Set-Top box and the TV source (broadcast or cable). 1Make sure that the remotecontrol is controlling the TV set. Press the MODE button and make sure that the “TV” LED is illuminated.2Press TV/VIDEO on theremote control, and the fol-lowing on-screen menu willappear. 3Move the joystick up or downto select a particular signalsource, and then press thejoystick to activate it. When you connect equipment to the TV, you can choosebetween the following sets of jacks: Video 1, Video 2, S-video 1,S-video 2, Component 1, Component 2, Component 3, DVI orPC on the TV’s rear panel, and Video 3 or S-Video 3 on the TV’sside panel.Remote Control VCR/DVD ButtonsFlip the cover of the remote control up to access buttons that cancontrol the tape functions of a connected VCR or DVD, includingRewind, Play, Fast Forward, Stop and Pause. 1Flip the cover of your remote con-trol unit for access to the tape func-tion controls. After it has been set upproperly, your remote control can operate in four different modes: TV, VCR, Cable, or DVD.Pressing the corresponding button on the remote control allows you to switch between these modes,and control whichever piece of equipment you choose.  NoteThe remote control might not be compatible with DVD Player, VCR, Cable box and others manufac-tured by another company.Setting Up the Remote to Operate Your VCR1Turn off your VCR.2Press the MODE button and make surethat the VCR LED is illuminated.3Press the Set button on your TV’s remotecontrol.4Using the number buttons on your remotecontrol, enter three digits of the VCRcode listed on page 47 of this manualfor your brand of VCR. Changing the Screen SizeWhen you press the ASPECT button on the remote control, the TV’s screen mode choices appearin sequence.  The screen displays in this order: Wide, Panorama, Zoom1, Zoom2, Normal.     The name of the screen mode will be displayed at the bottom of the TV screen.WideSets the picture to 16:9 wide mode.           Note: If you watch a still image or thescreen inthe 16:9 aspect ratio format for a longtime, someimages may be burned onto the screen.PanoramaUse this mode for the wide aspect ratio ofa panoramic picture.                    Zoom1Magnifies the size of the picture onscreen.Zoom2Magnifies the size of the picture morethan Zoom1. You can also move the picture on screenusingthe “Scroll” function. Move the joystick upand down to scroll the picture.NormalSets the picture to 4:3 normal mode.  Thisis a standard TV screen size.NOTES• When Zoom1 or Zoom2is selected in PIP mode, both PIP andCaption functions are switched OFF.• The 4:3 aspect ratio format is not supported in Component mode. View the TV in the Wide or Panorama mode as possible.51Setting the Blue Screen ModeIf no signal is being received or the signal is very weak, a blue screen automaticallyreplaces the noisy picture background. Special Audio OptionsMTS Settings: Choosing a SoundtrackDepending on the particular program being broadcast, you can listen to stereo, mono, or aSeparate Audio Program. (SAP audio is usually a foreign-language translation. Sometimes SAPhas unrelated information like news or weather.)1Press the Menu button. Auto VolumeEach broadcasting station has its own signal conditions, and it is inconvenient to adjustthe volume every time the channel is changed. “Auto volume” automatically adjusts thevolume of the desired channel by lowering the sound output when the modulation sig-nalis high or by raising the sound output when the modulation signal is low.1Press the Menu button. Viewing Picture-in-PictureOne of the most best features of your TV is the Picture-in-Picture (PIP) feature. The advanced PIPsystem allows you to watch two different pictures at once, even if you don’t have a VCR connect-ed to your TV.Selecting a PIP Screen1Press the Menu button. Movethe joystick down to select PIP,then press the joystick toenter.Quick way to access PIP:  Just press “PIP” on the remotecontrol. 2Move the joystick right toselect PIP “On”.  The PIPimage will appear in the cor-ner of the screen.  3Press Menu to exit.NOTES• When the cable box output is connected to ANT-B, it cannot be viewed in the PIP window.• The PIP feature doesn’t work when the V-chip is activated or the TV is in Component mode.  • If you turn the TV off while watching and turn it on again, then the mode will return to normalvideo.• When the PIP function is activated in Zoom1, Zoom2  mode, the screen mode is automaticallychanged to ‘Wide’ mode.• The blue screen appears during Channel Switching, Mode Switching or No Signal. When thesignal from main channel is switched into No Signal during PIP ON, the TV is automaticallyturned into PIP OFF and the screen becomes blue screen.  (When the main channel is in NoSignal, PIP doesn’t function.) 57Viewing Closed Caption InformationYour TV decodes and displays the closed-caption information that is broadcast along with sometelevision shows. These captions are usually subtitles for the hearing impaired or translations intoother languages. All VCRs record the closed caption signal from television programs, so pre-recorded video tapes can also deliver closed-caption information. Check for the closed captionsymbol ( ) on the tape’s package or your TV program-schedule.Closed Captions1Press the Menu button. Misspelling and unusu-al characters sometimes occurin closed caption transmis-sions, especially those of liveevents. There may be a smalldelay before captions appearwhen you change channels. (These do not indicate theTV is malfunctioning.) Move the joystick down toselect the “Mode”. Move the joystick right or left tochoose “Caption” or “Text.” ln caption mode, cap-tions appear at the bot-  tom of the screen, and theyusually cover only a small portion of the picture. Intext mode, information unre-lated to the program, suchas news or weather, is displayed. Text often covers alarge portion of the screen.4If you wish, use the joystick button to change the captioning channel or field. Then, press Menu to return to normal viewing. Different channels and fieldsdisplay different information. Using the V-ChipThe V-Chip feature automatically locks out programming that is deemed inappropriate for chil-dren.The user must first enter a PIN (personal ID number) before any of the V-Chip restrictions can beset up or changed. Setting Up Your Personal ID Number (PIN)1Press the Menu button.  Movethe joystick down to selectSETUP, then press the joystickto enter.Quick way to access theV-chip: Just press “V-chip” onthe remote control.      2Move the joystick down toselect V-chip, then press thejoystick to enter. 3The “TV guidelines” screen will appear.Move the joystick up or down to highlightone of the six age-based categories:TV-Y Young children                  TV-Y7 Children 7 and over           TV-G General audience             TV-PG Parental guidance            TV-14 Viewers 14 and over         TV-MA Mature audience Note: These categories consist of two separate groups: TV-Y and TV-Y7 (young childrenthrough age 7), and  TV-G through TV-MA (everybody else). The restrictions for these twogroups work independently: If a household includes very young children as well as youngadults, the TV guidelines must be set up separately for each age group. (See next step.)         4At this point, one of the TV-Ratings is selected.  Move the joystick right: Depending on yourexisting setup, a letter “U” or “B” will be select-ed. (U: Unblocked, B: Blocked).                        Move the joystick down or up to block orunblock the category. Move the joystick to theright. To select a different TV-Rating, move thejoystick down or up and then repeat the process.                        Note 1: TV-Y7, TV-PG, TV-14 and TV-MA have additional options.  See the next step tochange any of the following sub-ratings: FV:Fantasy violence, D:Dialog, L:Language, S:Sexual situation, V:Violence .                      Note 2: The V-Chip will automatically block certain categories that are “more restrictive.”For example, if you block “TV-Y” category, then TV-Y7 will automatically be blocked.Similarly, if you block the TV-G category, then all the categories in the “young adult” groupwill be blocked (TV-G, TV-PG, TV-14 and TV-MA). It may save you time and money.  • When a still image is viewed for a long time, an afterimage may partially happen on the screenaccording to the characteristics of FLCD panel. In this case, switch into a dynamic image andview your TV for about 30 minutes. Then it automatically disappears.• The liquid panel used for the FLCD Projection TV is composed of many minute cells. Therefore,fine ON/OFF dots may happen occasionally.• The blue screen appears during Channel Switching, Mode Switching or No Signal. When thesignal from main channel is switched into No Signal during PIP ON, the TV is automaticallyturned into PIP OFF and the screen becomes blue screen. (When the main channel is in NoSignal, PIP doesn’t function.)Care and MaintenanceWith proper care, your TV will give you many years of service.
