Also, scrolls through the menuoptions. In the menu facility, scrolls through the menu options. In the idle mode, displays Phone Book names.In the idle mode, enters RX Message menu. In the menu facility, selects a menu function or storesinformation that you have entered (such as a name inthe phone memory).SEND Makes or answers call. In the idle mode, enters Outgoing call log.CLR Deletes characters from the display.In the menufacility, returns to the previous menu level.Ends a call. Also switches the phone on and off whenpressed and held. In the menu facility, returns to theidle mode and cancels your input.0~9 Enters numbers, letters and some special characters.In the idle mode , enters Voice Dial mode when pressedand held. The following icons dis-play at power-on:IconsShows the received signal strength. The greater thenumber of bars, the better the signal strength.Indicates that the phone is outside a service areaand cannot send or receive calls.Appears when you are out of your home area andhave registered with a different network (whentravelling in other countries, for example).Appears when a new message has been received.Indicates a Digital mode.Indicates a Vibrate mode.Shows the level of your battery. The more bars yousee, the more power you have left.IconsText andgraphic areaInstalling BatteryTo Install the Battery1. Hold the battery so that the metal contacts on the bottomof the battery line up with the metal contacts on the backof the phone.2. Place the battery on the back of the phone with the top pfthe battery about a quarter of an inch from the latch.3. Gently slide the battery toward the top of the phone untilsnaps into place.
13Digital Cordless TelephoneTo Remove the BatteryIf you want to remove the battery, do as follows:1. If necessary, switch off the phone by holding down thekey until Bye Bye message is displayed.2. Push and hold down the catch above the battery on theback of the phone, and slide the battery down the phone.Then lift the battery away.12 Digital Cordless TelephoneCharging a BatteryYour phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-lon battery. Atravel adapter is provided with your phone. Use only approvedbatteries and chargers. Ask you local SAMSUNG dealer forfurther details.The phone can be used while the battery is charging.Note: You must fully charge the battery before using yourphone for the first time. A discharged battery is fullyrecharged in approximately 180 minutes.1. Check the lead from the travel adapter to the bottom of thephone. Check that the arrow on the lead connector is facingtowards the front of the phone.2. Connect the adapter to a standard AC wall outlet.

Disconnect the adapter from the phone by pressing the greytabs on either side of the connector and pulling the connec-tor out.Low Battery IndicatorWhen the battery is weak and only a few minutes of talk timeremain, a clear battery icon (no bars displayed) flashes in theupper right corner of the screen. You will hear a warning toneand a message will be replaced at regular intervals on thedisplay:When the battery become too weak for the phone to operate,it switches off automatically.Switching the Phone On/Off1. Open the flip cover.2. Hold down key for more than one second toswitch the phone on.The red light flashes, an alert sounds:•When the system locates services, the greeting messagedisplays along with the date and time. You can nowplace and receive calls.•If the system cannot locate service, the greeting message displays without the date and time. In thiscase, you cannot place and receive calls. Power off thephone, then try again later when service is available.•If your phone is locked, ‘-Locked-’ displays. PressMENU key, and enter the four-digit lock code to unlockthe phone.3. When you wish to switch the phone off, hold down thekey for more than two seconds.LowBattery

ThenThe last digit displayed Press CLR key.The whole display Hold down the CLR key formore than one seconde.Ending a CallWhen you have finished you call, briefly press the kryor close the flip.Emergency DialingYou can place calls to 100 or one of the three emergency numbers that are in your emergency number list even if yourphone is locked. For further information on emergency numberlist, refer to page xx.Prepend DialingThe Prepend option enables you to add up to three digits,such as area codes and network feature activation codes, to aphone number of up to 10 digits. You can prepend an existingentry in the Phone Book or Call Logs before dialing.To prepend existing phone numbers in the Phone Book or CallLogs:1. Access the phone number entry.2. When the desired phone number displays, press MENUkey to access Options.3. Press 3to select Prepend option.4. Enter the area code or feature code.5. You then simply recall the number to dial. For further information on Phone Book, refer to page xx.FINDING ENTRIES BY NAME, THEN DIAL1. Press key in the idle mode. The screen shows the names stored in the Phone Book in thealphabetical order.2. Use key to find the desired name. You can also enter thefirst letter of the name by pressing the associated alphanumeric key.3. Press SEND key to dial the stored number with the name.ONE-TOUCH DIALING BY MEMORY LOCATIONMemory locations 01 through 09 are special one-touch locations.You can dial the phone numbers stored in the Phone Book memoryfrom 01 through 09 simply by pressing one button.1. Press and hold the second digit of the memory location containing the number to be dialed.For example: Location no. 09Press 9and hold.The number (and name) stored is displayed, then dialed.Voice Dialing1. To place the call, press and hold key, or open the flip,depending on the Set Active option (see page xx).2. At the voice prompt, say the name into the phone. •If the phone recognizes the name, the phone attempts aconnection. •If the phone does not recognize the name, the screenprompts for the name again.•If the phone is unable to recognize the name after twoattempts, the message Cannot Recognize Name.Please check name displays. Try the call again later, orcheck the recorded name.TWO-TOUCH DIALING BY MEMORY LOCATIONOnce you have stored phone numbers in the phone book memory, you can dial them easily whenever you want.1. Press the first digit briefly, then hold down the second digitof the memory cell.For example: Location no. 23Press 2briefly and hold down 3.The number (and name) stored is displayed, then dialed.

If there are any characters on the display, clear the displayby holding down the CLR key for more than one second.2. Press SEND key. The list of outgoing calls are displayed.3. Use the key (or or key on the left side of thephone) to scroll through the numbers until you select therequired number.4. Press SEND key to dial the number displayed.Last Number RedialWhen somebody calls you, the phone rings and CALL in themiddle of the screen is displayed.If the caller can be identified, the caller’s phone number (orname if stored in your Phone Book) is displayed. If the callercannot be identified, only the CALL message appears.1. To answer a call, open the flip cover. If the flip is alreadyopen, press SEND key.If the Any key Ans menu option (7-4) is set to On, you canpress any key to answer a call except for key.2. End the call by closing the flip cover or pressing key.Note: You can answer a call while using the phone bookor menu features.Answering a CallCALL

In thisway, you can call the person back, if necessary.The number of missed calls is displayed on the idle screenimmediately after the call was missed.To view the missed call, refer to ‘Incoming’ (1-2) under‘CAllS’ on page xx.In-Call OptionsCall WaitingThis feature enables you to receive a second call during conversation. When a Call Waiting call comes, the incomingcall alert sounds, when set, and a text notification displays.Contact you service provider to activate Call Waiting call.To answer a Call Waiting call:1. To answer the call, Press SEND key. The phone connectsthe calling party, and places the current party on hold.2. Press SEND key again to switch between two parties.Three-Way CallingThis feature enables you to conduct conference calls with twoseparate parties at the same time. You are billed airtime foreach outgoing call separately.Contact your service provider to activate Three-Way Calling.To place a Three-Way call:1. During conversation, press SEND key, enter the phonenumber for the third party, and then press SEND key again.The phone places the other party on hold.2. Press toincrease and to decrease the volume.In the idle mode, you can adjust the key tone volume usingthe same keys.Adjusting the VolumePress the keys to adjustthe volume.Quick Switching to Vibration ModeYou can quickly switch your phone to Vibration mode with atouch of key. Press and hold the key until icon and-Vibrate- appears in the display. Your phone goes to thevibration mode immediately.Press and hold key again to resume the phone’s alerttype which was previously set through the Ring menu underSOUND menu; see page xx for further details. This feature is convenient when you are in a hurry to mute thephone’s ringer in a theater for example.You can access VOICE MEMO menu by pressing key onthe left side of the phone in the idle mode.If you want to record voice memo, press and hold the key.Your phone records voice up to 60 seconds while the key ispressed and held.For more information on VOICE MEMO menu, refer to page xx.Recording Voice MemoPress the when yourecord a memo.Call ForwardingThis feature provides the option of forwarding incoming callsto another phone number, even while your phone is off.Activating Call Forwarding does not affect outgoing callsmade from this phone. Contact your service provider to activate Call Forwarding.
26 Digital Cordless Telephone 27Digital Cordless TelephoneUsing the Scroll KeysThe following keys are used to set menu option by scrollingthen selecting an option.Key PurposeMENU Enters the menu structure.In the idle mode, moves to the next menuin the main menu level and moves to thenext screen in the sub-menu levels.In the menu mode, moves to the nextmenu or option.You can also use the or key on theleft side of the phone to move to the nextor previous option.Access the menu displayed or thehighlighted option.A three-level menu structure is available to set the variousoptions available on your phone. You can set the menuoptions in two different ways.Using the MenusExample: Connecting the Record option in VOICE DIAL menu1. Press MENU key to access the main menu.2. Press MENU or key repeatedly until VOICE DIAL isdisplayed, then press key. The VOICE DIAL menusare displayed.3. Press key to select Record highlighted. You areconnected to Record option.Using the Index SystemEach menu option is assigned a hierarchical number. You canuse this number to access the corresponding option directly.Simply press MENU and key in the required number.Example: Connecting the Record option in VOICE DIAL menu.1. Press MENU key to access the main menu.2. Press 5to access VOICE DIAL menu. The VOICE DIALmenus are displayed.3. Press 1to select Record. You can store up to 79 numbers.Phone BookAir TimeUsing this option, you can view the call time of the last call,as well as total air time for all calls since you last resetthe timer.Last Call: length of the last callTotal Call: total length of all calls made since the timer waslast reset.EraseTotal: resets the call timers.Erase LogsYou can erase the numbers stored in the Call Log memory.Outgoing: The numbers you called are erased. Incoming: The numbers you received are erased.All: All calls you dialled and received are erased.MENU 1-3MENU 2-1MENU 1-4This option displays the stored names in the Phone Book inalphabetical list.Press key to scroll to the desired name. You can alsoenter the first letter of the name by pressing the associatedalphanumeric key. Using this method, the phone searches forthe names in the list beginning with that letter, and then dis-plays the first name in that section of the list. If desired, youcan also enter the second letter in the name by pressing theassociated alphanumeric key.When the desired entry displays, press SEND key to place acall. If you press key, you can access the followingoptions:Talk: dials the number.Edit: allows you to edit phone number, name, or entrynumber. Secret option prevents the number from beingdisplayed in the screen.Prepend: prepends the number to add an area code or fea-ture code to the number before dialing.Erase: erases the number.Note: You can locate Phone Book entries quickly when thephone is in the idle mode. Press key to accessFind Name menu in one step and then press keyto scan entries.

Refer to page xx.MENU 2-2Add EntryUsing this option, you can store a phone number with a namein your Phone Book. Enter the phone number and press key. The firstavailable location displays. To accept the displayed location, press key. To selectanother location, press key to scroll to the desired loca-tion or enter the location number using number keys, thenpress key.To include a name with the phone number entry, enter thedesired name, then press key. For information on howto enter a name, see page xx.Storing Phone Numbers at Call EndTo store a phone number following conversation:1. Press key to end the call. The call time and thephone number display.2. To store the phone number, press key. The firstavailable location displays.3. To finish this process, follow above mentioned instructions.MENU 2-3Find EntryThis option allows you to find an entry by location number.Enter the location by pressing the number keys or press key to scroll to the desired location, then press key todisplay the selected entry.When the desired entry displays, press SEND key to place acall.If you press key, you can access Options. For detailson Options, refer to Find Name menu on page xx.MENU 2-4Entering a Name1. Press the key labeled with required letter.Since each key has three or more letters, press the keyrepeatedly the desired letter appears in the display.2. Select the other letters in the same way.Note: The cursor moves to the right when you press adifferent key. When entering the same letter twice(or a different letter on the same key), just wait fora second for the cursor to move right automatical-ly, and then select the next letter. You can alsomove the cursor by using and keys .Todelete letters, press CLR key.

Use the or key on the left side of the phone. The greater the number ofbars, the greater the volume. You will also hear a sampletone.Note: During an incoming call, you can mute the ringer bypressing key.Ring TypeThis option allows you to indicate how you are to be informedof any incoming calls. The following options are available. Bell: The phone rings using the ring tone selected via themenu option.Lamp: Only the backlight is switched on; the phone neitherrings nor vibrates.Vibrator: The phone vibrates but does not ring.Vib + Bell: The phone both rings and vibrates.You can use the Sounds feature to customize various soundsettings, such as the:• Ring volume, type, and tone• Alert soundsSoundsMENU 3-1Ring ToneThis option allows you to select the required ringing tone. Youcan choose between 20 different tones or melodies. Each timeyou select a tone, it is played for a few seconds.Key VolumeThis option allows you to adjust the tone volume that the key-pad generates when you press a key. You can also use orkey on the left side of the phone to adjust key volume inthe idle mode.MENU 3-2AlertMinute BeepWith this menu option set to ON, the phone beeps everyminute during an outgoing call to keep you informed of thelength of your call. Service AreaWith this menu option set to ON, the phone beeps when youare out of service area or when you return to a service area. MENU 3-3

If the phone isswitched off at the specified time, the alert will not sound.Set: You need to enter the number and time you want to bereminded to call the number. The phone will sounds analarm at the specified time and displays the number. Todial the number, press SEND.Release: The option cancels the reminder.MENU 3-4Differential RingThis option allows you to activate a unique ring to signal anincoming call by a stored caller number.You can specify up to 5 callers and select a unique ring typefor each caller from 20 different tones and melodies.MENU 3-5BacklightYou can select whether or not the phone uses the LCD back-light. The following options are available.8 SECONDS: The backlight comes on when you press a keyor receive a call and switches off 8 secondsafter the last key is pressed.OFF: The backlight is not used.Greeting This option allows you to set a greeting message to be displayed in the idle mode. It is preset to SAMSUNG. You canchange the greeting message according to your own prefer-ence.Enter your personal greeting up to 12 digits by using thealphanumeric keys.
