Itprovides a universal standard, enabling you toaccess Web-based interactive informationservices and applications directly from yourmobile phone.
54Setting Up the WAPBrowserBefore using the WAP Browser, you must set theparameters for the proxy server used by your serviceprovider. Accessing the WAP BrowserTo access the WAP Browser menu, proceed as follows.1.  When the idle screen is displayed, press the Menusoft key to enter the menu facility.About the WAPBrowserYour phone comes equipped with a WAP (WirelessApplication Protocol) Browser, making it possible for youto access the Wireless Web.The WAP Browser allows you to:• Access up-to-the-minute information via your phone• View specially designed text versions of popularInternet sites including Yahoo!®, CNN MobileSM and theWeather Channel®Browsing the Wireless Web using your phone is unlikeusing your computer, in that site providers have:• Selected only the critical aspects of their site forwireless phone users  • Removed most graphicsEach time you start the WAP Browser, the phoneconnects to the Wireless Web and the service indicatoricon ( ) appears on the display to inform you that youare:• Connected to the Wireless Web • Will be billed accordingly (rates vary according to yourservice option)  The WAP Browser ends the network connection after acertain period of inactivity and automatically reconnectsas necessary. For this reason, you may find that you arebilled for several network connections within a singlesession. Within the WAP Browser menu, highlight Settingsusing the  and  keys, then press the Select softkey. 2. Select a proxy server and enter the parametersrequired. Contact your service provider for details.Parameter DescriptionProxy Name Name of the HTTP proxy server. Homepage Address of your startup URL homepage. When the defaulthomepage is displayed, you candelete it using the C key and enteryour own choice.Security  Data transmission mode: Secureto protect your data againstunauthorised access; otherwise,Non-Secure.IP Address IP address required to connect tothe Internet.Bearer  Bearer to be used for each type ofnetwork address accessed: GPRSor Data. The remaining options depend on the Bearer setting,as indicated on the next page.Option DescriptionHome Connects the phone to the network and loadsthe homepage of the Wireless Web serviceprovider. Favorite Allows you to store the URL addresses ofyour favourite Web sites. You can access thismenu directly by pressing and holding downthe  key while using the WAP Browser. To store a URL address, select an emptylocation and enter the address. Three submenus are available. Select GotoURL to access the site quickly, Edit to editthe selected address and Erase to delete theselected address. http://Allows you to enter manually the URL addressof the Web site that you wish to access.Settings Allows you to set up five proxy servers forthe WAP Browser.Clear Clears the information stored in the cache Cache(the phone’s temporary memory used to storethe most recently accessed Web pages).3. 998Getting StartedStarting the WAP BrowserNote: The first time you use the WAP Browser, you areguided through a security setup procedure thattakes three to five minutes. Follow the on-screenprompts to complete the procedure (onlynecessary the first time you access the service).To start the WAP Browser when the idle screen isdisplayed, press the  key or press the Menu soft key,followed by the  and  keys.A connection is established with your service provider andthe corresponding homepage is displayed.The content of the WAP Browser startup homepagedepends on your Wireless Web service provider. Toscroll through the screen, use the  and  keys.Note: To access the startup homepage from any otherscreen in the WAP Browser, use the Home option.For more information on the WAP Browsermenus, refer to page 12.Exiting the WAP BrowserTo exit the browser at any time, simply press the key or press and hold down the  key. TUVWhen the bearer is set to DataParameter DescriptionLogin Name  PPP server login ID. Password  PPP server password.Dial-up Number PPP server phone number. Data Call Type  Data call type: Analogue orISDN. When the bearer is set to GPRSParameter DescriptionUser Name  User ID required to connect tothe GPRS network. Password  Password required to connect tothe GPRS network.APN  Access point name used for theaddress of the GPRS networkgateway.Note: The WAP Browser settings may vary,depending on the service provider. Contactyour service provider for further information.3. When you are satisfied with each parameter, pressthe Select or OK soft key.4. The followingmodes are available.Mode Descriptionalpha/ Allows you to enter letters in the ALPHA alphabet. Press the corresponding keyuntil the required letter is displayed.SYM 1 ~ 3 Allows you to enter various symbols andpunctuation marks. To view more symbols,press the More soft key.NUM Allows you to enter numbers.word/ Allows you to enter words by pressing WORD one key only per letter. Availability of thismode depends on your service provider. Toaccess the WAP Browser menu or startuphomepage in this mode, hold down the key.To... Then...Change modes Press the right soft key one or more times.Enter a space  Press the  key.Switch between  Press the  key.upper and lower-case charactersEdit text • Set the cursor to the right of thecharacter(s) to be corrected• Press the Ckey one or more timesas required• Enter the correct character(s)Using the WAPBrowserUsing the Soft KeysA bar containing browser commands is located at thebottom of the WAP Browser display. The  soft keysbelow the bar are used to execute these commands. Thetwo keys are called soft keys because their functionchanges depending on the WAP Browser application inuse.Navigating the WAP BrowserTo... Then...Scroll through and  Press the and keys select browser items until the  symbol points tothe required item, and thenpress the OK soft key toconfirm the selection.Select a numbered Press the corresponding item numeric key.Return to the Press the Back soft key or previous page the Ckey.Return to the startup Select the Home menu option; homepage for more information on thisoption, refer to page 12.
1312UUssiinngg  tthhee  WWAAPP  BBrroowwsseerr  MMeennuussBookmarksThis option allows you to load a bookmarked Web pagedirectly.Select the required page in the bookmark list usingthe and  keys, and then press the OK soft key togo to the selected page.Note: To use the Bookmark feature, you must first set abookmark for the required page using the MarkSite option below.Mark SiteYou can set a bookmark for most pages; they can thenbe accessed directly from any Web page. Bookmarkssave you time by reducing the number of steps requiredto access a given page.Select this option for any page that you wish to consultregularly. About Phone.comThis option provides you with information about: • Phone.Com, Inc.• Your version of the WAP BrowserUsing the WAPBrowser MenusUsing and Selecting Menu OptionsVarious menu options are available when you are usingthe WAP Browser to navigate the Wireless Web.To access a menu option, proceed as follows.1. Press the  key. A menu is displayed.2. Highlight the required menu option by pressing the and keys.3. Select the option by pressing the OK soft key.4. If necessary, select the secondary option using the and  keys, and press the OK soft key to confirm.  Note: The menus may vary, depending on your versionof the WAP Browser.ReloadThis option reloads the current page.HomeThis option takes you back at any time to the homepageof the Wireless Web service provider.

However,some applications can be stored in the cache of yourphone, enabling you to use them offline. You can removethe associated site from the cache at any time.Note: If you attempt to save more than 15 sites, amessage informs you that the first site in the listwill be deleted to create space for the new site.To delete a site from the offline services list, proceed asfollows.1. Select the site using the  and  keys.2. Press the Erase soft key.OutboxThis advanced feature stores outgoing requests from thebrowser so that they can be processed at a later date.Restart UP.BrowserIf the browser is not functioning correctly, select thisoption to restart the browser without exiting it.EncryptionThis advanced feature is set automatically by the serviceprovider. You do not need to change it.Advanced...This option gives you access to the following advancedfeatures.Show URLThis advanced feature displays the URL address of the siteto which you are currently connected. It also enables youto declare the current site as the startup homepage.To... Then...Declare the current Press the Set soft key and page as your startup confirm your setting by homepage pressing the OK soft key.Cancel your setting Press the Cancel soft key.HomepageWith this advanced feature, you can change the startuphomepage manually.To...
