SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS – Charge the Instant Power™ internal battery immediately after purchase, after every use and every 30 days. This manual will show you how to use your Instant Power™ safely and effectively. Please read, understand and follow these instructions and precautions carefully, as this manual contains important safety and operating instructions. The safety messages used throughout this manual contain a signal word, a message and an icon. The signal word indicates the level of the hazard in a situation. Indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury to the operator or bystanders. Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury to the operator or bystanders. IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS – SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS This manual contains important safety and operating instructions. Risk of electric shock or fire. 1.1 Read the entire manual before using this product. Failure to do so could result in serious injury or death. 1.2 Keep out of reach of children. 1.3 Do not put fingers or hands into any of the Instant Power’s™ outlets. 1.4 Do not expose the Instant Power™ to rain or snow. 1.5 Use only recommended attachments. Use of an attachment not recommended or sold by Schumacher® Electric Corporation may result in a risk of fire, electric shock or injury to persons or damage to property. 1.6 To reduce the risk of damage to the electric plug or cord, pull by the plug rather than the cord when disconnecting the Instant Power™. 1.7 Use of an improper extension cord could result in a risk of fire and electric shock. If an extension cord is necessary, a cord with a current rating equal to or more than that of the equipment may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that it will not be tripped over or pulled. 1.8 To reduce the risk of electric shock, unplug the Instant Power™ wall charger from the outlet before attempting any maintenance or cleaning. Simply turning off the controls will not reduce this risk. 1.9 When charging the internal battery, work in a well ventilated area and do not restrict the ventilation in any way. 1.10 Do not operate the Instant Power™ with damaged cables or clips; have the cable or clip replaced immediately by a qualified service person. (Call customer service at: 1-800-621-5485.) 1.11 Do not operate the Instant Power™ if it has received a sharp blow, been dropped or otherwise damaged in any way; take it to a qualified service person. (Call customer service at: 1-800-621-5485.) 1.12 Do not disassemble the Instant Power™; take it to a qualified service person when service or repair is required. Incorrect reassembly may result in a risk of fire or electric shock. (Call customer service at: 1-800-621-5485.) •1• RISK OF EXPLOSIVE GASES. 1.13 WORKING IN THE VICINITY OF A LEAD-ACID BATTERY IS DANGEROUS. BATTERIES GENERATE EXPLOSIVE GASES DURING NORMAL BATTERY OPERATION. FOR THIS REASON, IT IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE THAT YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS EACH TIME YOU USE THE INSTANT POWER™. 1.14 To reduce the risk of a battery explosion, follow these instructions and those published by the battery manufacturer and the manufacturer of any equipment you intend to use in the vicinity of the battery. Review the cautionary markings on these products and on the engine. 1.15 This Instant Power™ employs parts, such as switches and circuit breakers, that tend to produce arcs and sparks. If used in a garage, locate this Instant Power™ 18 inches (46 cm) or more above floor level. 2. 2.2 2.3 2.4 PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS Risk of explosive gases. A spark near the battery may cause a battery explosion. To reduce the risk of a spark near the battery: 2.1 NEVER smoke or allow a spark or flame in the vicinity of a battery or engine. Remove personal metal items such as rings, bracelets, necklaces and watches when working with a lead-acid battery. A lead-acid battery can produce a short-circuit current high enough to weld a ring or the like to metal, causing a severe burn. Be extra cautious to reduce the risk of dropping a metal tool onto the battery. It might spark or short-circuit the battery or other electrical part that may cause an explosion. Do not permit the internal battery of the Instant Power™ to freeze. Never charge a frozen battery. 2.5 2.6 To prevent sparking, NEVER allow clips to touch together or contact the same piece of metal. Consider having someone nearby to come to your aid when you work near a lead-acid battery. 2.7 Have plenty of fresh water and soap nearby in case battery acid contacts your skin, clothing or eyes. 2.8 Wear complete eye and body protection, including safety goggles and protective clothing. Avoid touching your eyes while working near the battery. 2.9 If battery acid contacts your skin or clothing, immediately wash the area with soap and water. If acid enters your eye, immediately flood the eye with cold running water for at least 10 minutes and get medical attention right away. 2.10 If battery acid is accidentally swallowed, drink milk, the whites of eggs or water. DO NOT induce vomiting. Seek medical attention immediately. 3. 3.3 3.4 Preparing to use the Instant Power™ RISK OF CONTACT WITH BATTERY ACID. BATTERY ACID IS A HIGHLY CORROSIVE SULFURIC ACID. 3.1 Be sure the area around the battery is well ventilated while the jump starter is being used. 3.2 Clean the battery terminals before using the jump starter. During cleaning, keep airborne corrosion from coming into contact with your eyes, nose and mouth. Use baking soda and water to neutralize the battery acid and help eliminate airborne corrosion. Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth. Determine the voltage of the battery by referring to the vehicle owner’s manual and make sure that the output voltage of the jump starter is correct. Make sure that the Instant Power™ cable clips make tight connections. •2• 4. Instant power™ LOCATION RISK OF EXPLOSION AND CONTACT WITH BATTERY ACID. 4.1 Locate the Instant Power™ as far away from the battery as the DC cables permit. 4.2 Never place the Instant Power™ directly above the battery being jumped; gases from the battery will corrode and damage the Instant Power™. Do not operate the Instant Power™ in a closed-in area or restrict the ventilation in any way. 4.3 5. DC CONNECTION PRECAUTIONS 5.1 Connect and disconnect the DC output clips only after setting all of the Instant Power™ switches to the “off” position (if applicable) and removing the AC plug from the electrical outlet. Never allow the clips to touch each other. Attach the clips to the battery and chassis, as indicated in the operating instructions. 5.2 6. Charging and ac power cord connections RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK OR FIRE. 6.1 The Instant Power™ charger is for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit. The plug must be plugged into an outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances. The plug pins must fit the receptacle (outlet). Do not use with an ungrounded system. NOTE: Pursuant to Canadian Regulations, use of an adapter plug is not allowed in Canada. Use of an adapter plug in the United States is not recommended and should not be used. 7. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Remove all cord wraps and uncoil the cables prior to using the Instant Power™. Inflator Hose 9. 9.1 9.2 Charging the internal battery of the Instant Power™ Important: charge immediately after purchase, after each use and every 30 days to keep the instant power™ INTERNAL BATTERY FULLY CHARGED. Check the internal battery’s charge level by pressing the Display Button. The Digital Display will show the battery’s percent of charge. Charge the internal battery if the display shows it is under 100%. Note: The internal battery’s percent of charge is most accurate when the Instant Power™ has been disconnected from all devices and charging sources for a few hours. Charging the Internal Battery using the Included Wall Charger 1. To charge, plug the included wall charger into the charger plug on the back of the Instant Power™. 2. Plug the wall charger into a 120V electrical wall outlet. 3. While the Instant Power™ is charging, the battery’s percentage of charge will be displayed. When the internal battery is fully charged, the display will show 100. Complete charging may take up to 72 hours. The Instant Power™ is then ready to use. 4. The charger will automatically go into maintain mode and maintain the battery at full charge without damaging it. 5. Charge the Instant Power™ as soon as possible after use. Do not use the Instant Power™ while charging the internal battery. You may also charge the internal battery while driving, using a male-to-male charger cable (p/n 94500109 – not included). Insert one end of the accessory cable into the 12V DC power outlet and the other end into the vehicle’s accessory outlet (lighter socket). Completely disconnect the charger cable when the engine is not running. Using this method to charge the battery overrides the maintain mode and the battery can be overcharged. Monitor the progress of the battery and when it reaches a full (100%) charge, disconnect the charger. Do not leave the battery unattended or it could explode causing property damage or personal injury. 10. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 10.1 Digital Display Functions To check the Instant Power™ internal battery’s status, push the Display Button. The display will show the percent of charge of the internal battery. When connected to the vehicle, the display shows the vehicle’s battery voltage. When connected and in the ON position, the display shows the equalized voltage between the vehicle’s battery and internal battery. When the inverter is turned on and being used, the display will show the total wattage used by the device being powered by the inverter. 10.2 Jump Starting a Vehicle Engine A spark near the battery may cause a battery explosion. To reduce the risk of a spark near the battery: Do not use the Instant Power™ while charging the internal battery. 1. Turn the vehicle’s ignition OFF before making cable connections. 2. Position the DC cables to reduce the risk of damage by the hood, door and moving or hot engine parts. NOTE: If it is necessary to close the hood during the jump starting process, ensure that the hood does not touch the metal part of the battery clips or cut the insulation of the cables. 3. Stay clear of fan blades, belts, pulleys and other parts that can cause injury. 4. Check the polarity of the battery posts. The POSITIVE (POS, P, +) battery post usually has a larger diameter than the NEGATIVE (NEG, N, -) post. •4• 5. Determine which post of the battery is grounded (connected) to the chassis. If the negative post is grounded to the chassis (as in most vehicles), see step 6. If the positive post is grounded to the chassis, see step 7. 6. For a negative-grounded vehicle, connect the POSITIVE (RED) clip from the jump starter to the POSITIVE (POS, P, +) ungrounded post of the battery. Connect the NEGATIVE (BLACK) clip to the vehicle chassis or engine block away from the battery. Do not connect the clip to the carburetor, fuel lines or sheet-metal body parts. Connect to a heavy gauge metal part of the frame or engine block. 7. For a positive-grounded vehicle, connect the NEGATIVE (BLACK) clip from the jump starter to the NEGATIVE (NEG, N, -) ungrounded post of the battery. Connect the POSITIVE (RED) clip to the vehicle chassis or engine block away from the battery. Do not connect the clip to the carburetor, fuel lines or sheet-metal body parts. Connect to a heavy gauge metal part of the frame or engine block. Risk of Explosion. If you have connected the clips backward, an audio alarm will sound. DO NOT turn the ON/OFF switch to the ON position. This could cause serious damage to the Instant Power™ or the vehicle. Reverse the connections and the audio alarm will stop. 8. Turn ON the Jump Start ON/OFF switch. Crank the engine. If the engine does not start within 5-8 seconds, stop cranking and wait at least 1 minute before attempting to start the vehicle again. (This permits the battery to cool down.) 9. After the engine starts, make sure to turn OFF the Jump Start switch. Disconnect the black clip (-), then the red clip (+), in that order. 10. Recharge the Instant Power™ as soon as possible after use. Risk of Explosion. To prevent sparking, NEVER allow the clips to touch together or to contact the same piece of metal. Never attempt to jump start a frozen battery. 10.3 Powering a 12V DC Device The Instant Power™ is a power source for all 12V DC accessories that are equipped with a 12V accessory plug. Use it for power outages and fishing or camping trips. Make sure the device to be powered is OFF before inserting the 12V DC accessory plug into the 12V DC accessory outlet. 1. Ensure the battery clips are securely clipped on the storage holders. 2. Open the protective cover of the DC power outlet on the front of the Instant Power™. 3. Plug the 12V DC device into the DC power outlet, and turn the 12V DC device on (if required). 4. If the 12V DC device draws more than 15A or has a short circuit, the internal circuit breaker of the Instant Power™ will trip and disconnect the power to the device. Disconnect the 12V DC device. The breaker will automatically reset after an overload occurs. The DC power outlet is wired directly to the internal battery. Extended operation of a 12V DC device may result in excessive battery drain. Recharge immediately after unplugging the 12V DC device. 10.4 Using the USB Port The USB port provides up to 500mA at 5V DC. 1. Ensure the battery clips are securely clipped on the storage holders. 2. Turn the Instant Power™ On/Off switch to the ON position. 3. Plug in and turn the USB device on. 4. Reverse these steps when finished using the USB port. 5. Charge the Instant Power™ as soon as possible after using the USB port. 10.5 Using the Built-In Light 1. Position the Instant Power™ on a flat, stable surface near the intended work area. 2. Ensure the battery clips are securely clipped on the storage holders. 3. Press the Light Switch to the ON position. •5• 10.6 10.7 10.8 10.9 4. The Instant Power™ light will turn on and illuminate your work area. 5. Press the Light Switch to the OFF position. 6. Charge the Instant Power™ as soon as possible after using the built-in light. Using the Air Compressor Risk of explosion. Read the instructions of the product being inflated before using the compressor. Avoid overinflation, do not exceed the manufacturer’s recommended pressures. Do not leave the air compressor unattended during use. 1. Ensure the battery clips are securely on the storage holders. 2. Remove the air compressor hose from the storage compartment in the back of the Instant Power™. Install adapters as necessary. 3. Attach the air compressor hose to the product or accessory to be inflated. 4. Place the Compressor/Inflator Switch in the COMPRESSOR position and inflate the product. 5. When the product is inflated to the proper air pressure (using the air compressor gauge) place the Compressor/Inflator Switch in the OFF position and remove the hose. 6. Do not run for more than 10 minutes maximum at a time. Allow the Instant Power™ to cool down for 10 minutes before using again. NOTE: To prevent overheating, the compressor has built-in thermal protection that will turn the compressor off before it overheats. If the compressor shuts off, wait a few minutes and it will automatically restart when the compressor cools. NOTE: The air compressor is rated for 150 PSI. Using the Inflator Risk of explosion. Read instructions of the product being inflated before using the inflator. Avoid overinflation, do not exceed the manufacturer’s recommended pressures. Do not leave the inflator unattended during use. 1. Ensure the battery clips are securely on the storage holders. 2. Attach the corrugated hose with end adapter to the high-flow inflator outlet located near the Compressor/Inflator switch on the back of the Instant Power™. 3. The main accessory adapter attached to the corrugated hose accommodates up to 4 sizes. If another size is needed, an additional adapter can be attached to the end of the main accessory adapter. 4. Insert the adapter into the product to be inflated. 5. Push the Compressor/Inflator switch to the INFLATOR position and inflate the product. 6. When the product is inflated to the desired level, push the Compressor/Inflator switch to the OFF position and remove the adapter. Using the Deflator 1. Ensure the battery clips are securely on the storage holders. 2. Attach the corrugated hose with the end adapter to the high-flow deflator outlet, which is located on the side of the Instant Power™. 3. The main accessory adapter attached to the corrugated hose accommodates up to 4 sizes. If another size is needed, an additional adapter can be attached to the end of the main accessory adapter. 4. Insert the adapter into the item to be deflated. 5. Push the Compressor/Inflator switch to the INFLATOR position and deflate the item. 6. When the product is deflated to the desired level, push the Compressor/Inflator switch to the OFF position and remove the adapter. Before Using the Inverter Important Safety Instructions: 1. Keep the Instant Power™ well ventilated in order to properly disperse heat generated while it is in use. Make sure there are several inches of clearance around the top and sides, and do not block the vents on the back of the Instant Power™. •6• 2. Make sure the Instant Power™ is not close to any potential source of flammable fumes or clothing. 3. Keep the Instant Power™ dry. 4. DO NOT allow the Instant Power™ to come into contact with rain or moisture. 5. DO NOT operate the Instant Power™ if you, the Instant Power™, the device being operated or any other surfaces that may come in contact with any power source are wet. Water and many other liquids can conduct electricity, which may lead to serious injury or death. 6. Do not place the Instant Power™ on or near heating vents, radiators or other sources of heat. 7. Do not place the Instant Power™ in direct sunlight. The ideal air temperature for operation is between 50° and 80°F. 8. Do not use the inverter near an open engine compartment where fumes may accumulate. 9. Do not modify the AC receptacles in any way. 10.10 Using the Inverter It is important to know the continuous wattage of the device you plan to use with the inverter. The Instant Power™ must be used with devices drawing 200 watts or less. If the wattage is not marked on the device, use only devices that draw less than 1.7 Amps of AC current. Devices like TVs, fans or electric motors require additional power to start (commonly known as the “starting or peak power”). The Instant Power™ can supply a momentary surge in wattage; however even devices rated less than the maximum 200 watts can exceed the inverters surge capability and cause an automatic overload shutdown. Do not use the inverter with a product that draws a higher wattage than the inverter can provide, as this may cause damage to the inverter and the product. Make sure the device you are using is compatible with a modified sine wave inverter. Always run a test to establish whether the inverter will operate a particular piece of equipment or device. In the event of a power overload, the inverter is designed to automatically shut down. This safety feature prevents damaging the inverter while testing devices and equipment with the 200-watt range. If powering more than one device, start one device at a time to avoid a power surge and/or inverter overload. The surge load of each device should not exceed the inverter’s Continuous Operation wattage rate. If you are using the power inverter to operate a battery charger, monitor the temperature of the battery charger for about 10 minutes. If the battery charger becomes abnormally warm, disconnect it from the inverter immediately. You can use an extension cord from the inverter to the device without significantly decreasing the power being generated by the inverter. For best operating results, the extension cord should be 16 AWG (1.31 mm2) or larger and no longer than 50 feet. This inverter uses a nonsinusoidal waveform. Therefore, we do not recommend you use it to power the following devices: 1. Switch Mode Power Supplies 2. Linear Power Supplies 3. Class 2 Transformers 4. Line Filter Capacitors 5. Shaded Pole Motors 6. Fan Motors 7. Microwave Ovens 8. Fluorescent and High Intensity Lamps (with a ballast) 9. Transformerless Battery Chargers Doing so may cause the device to run warmer or overheat. 10.11 Powering a 120V AC Device •7• To operate a 120V AC device: 1. Ensure the battery clips are securely on the storage holders. 2. Open the protective cover of the AC power outlet on the front panel of the Instant Power™. 3. Make sure the 120V AC device to be operated is turned OFF. 4. Plug the 120V AC device into the AC power outlet, and turn the Inverter Switch to the ON position. 5. Turn the device on. 6. If the device does not operate properly when first connected to the inverter, push the inverter rocker switch ON, OFF, and ON again in quick succession. If this procedure is not successful, it is likely that the inverter does not have the required capacity to operate the device intended. 7. Charge the Instant Power™ as soon as possible after each use. Risk of electric shock. Incorrect operation of your inverter may result in damage and personal injury. The inverter output is 120V AC and can shock or electrocute the same as any ordinary household AC wall outlet. NOTE: The maximum continuous load is 200 watts. Do not use the inverter with a product that draws more than 200 watts, as this may cause damage to the inverter and the product. 11. 11.1 11.2 11.3 11.4 11.5 12. MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS After use and before performing maintenance, unplug and disconnect the Instant Power™ (see sections 3 and 4). Use a dry cloth to wipe all battery corrosion and other dirt or oil from the battery clips, cords, and the Instant Power™ case. Ensure that all of the Instant Power™ components are in place and in good working condition, for example, the plastic boots on the battery clips. Servicing does not require opening the unit, as there are no user-serviceable parts. All other servicing should be performed by qualified service personnel. MOVING AND STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS 12.1 Store the Instant Power™ in an upright position. 12.2 Store inside, in a cool, dry place. 12.3 Do not store the clips on the handle, clipped together, on or around metal, or clipped to cables. The clips on the Instant Power™ are live and will produce arcing or sparking if they come in contact with each other. To prevent accidental arcing, always keep the clips on the storage holders when not using them to jump start a vehicle. 12.4 If the Instant Power™ is moved around the shop or transported to another location, take care to avoid/prevent damage to the cords, clips and Instant Power™. Failure to do so could result in personal injury or property damage. Do not use and/or store the Instant Power™ in or on any area or surface where damage could occur if the internal battery should unexpectedly leak acid. 12.5 IMPORTANT: • CHARGE IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASE • KEEP FULLY CHARGED Charge the Instant Power™ internal battery immediately after purchase, after every use and every 30 days. All batteries are affected by temperature. The ideal storage temperature is at 70°F. The internal battery will gradually self-discharge (lose power) over time, especially in warm environments. Leaving the battery in a discharged state may result in permanent battery damage. To ensure satisfactory performance and avoid permanent damage, charge the internal battery every month. •8• 13. TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM The Instant Power™ won’t jump start my car. The Instant Power™ won’t power my 12V device. The battery in the Instant Power™ won’t hold a charge. POSSIBLE CAUSE REASON/SOLUTION Jump Start/USB Switch is not turned ON. Turn ON the Jump Start/USB Switch. Clips are not making a good connection to the battery. Check for poor connection to battery and frame. Make sure connection points are clean. Rock clips back and forth for a better connection. The Instant Power™ battery is not charged. Check the battery charge status by pressing the button on the front of the Instant Power™. See DIGITAL DISPLAY FUNCTIONS section of this manual. The vehicle’s battery is defective. Have the battery checked. The 12V device is not turned on. Turn on the 12V device. The Instant Power™ battery is not charged. Check the battery charge status by pressing the button on the front of the Instant Power™. See DIGITAL DISPLAY FUNCTIONS section of this manual. The 12V device draws more than 15A or has a short circuit. Disconnect the 12V device. The internal breaker will automatically reset after a minute or two. Try the 12V device again. If it happens again, replace the 12V device. The battery is bad (will not accept a charge). Have the battery checked. •9• 14. NO provoque vómito. Busque ayuda médica de inmediato. 3. PREPARACIÓN PARA EL USO DEL instant power™ RIESGO DE CONTACTO CON EL ÁCIDO DE LA BATERÍA. Limpie los terminales de la batería antes de usar el Instant Power™. Durante la limpieza, evite que la corrosión producida por aire tenga contacto con sus ojos, nariz y boca. Utilice bicarbonato de sodio y agua para neutralizar el ácido de la batería y ayudar a eliminar la corrosión producida por aire. No toque ojos, nariz o boca. Determine el voltaje de la batería consultando el manual del usuario del vehículo y asegúrese de que la tensión de salida del voltaje el aparato sea la correcta. Asegúrese de que las pinzas del Instant Power™ se encuentren firmemente conectadas. Compruebe el nivel de carga de la batería interna presionando el botón de la carátula. El indicador digital demostrará el porcentaje de carga. Cargue la batería interna si la carátula muestra carga por debajo del 100%. NotA: El porcentaje de carga de la batería interna es más confinable si el Instant Power™ ha sido desconectada de todos los accesorios y conexiones por unas horas. INSTRUCCIONES DE OPERACIÓN 10.1 Funciones del indicador digital Para comprobar el estado de la batería interna del Instant Power™ , empuje el botón de la carátula. Entonces mostrará el porcentaje de carga de la batería interna. Cuando está conectada al vehículo, mostrará el voltaje de la batería del vehículo. Cuando está conectada y en la posición encendido, exhibirá el voltaje igualado entre la batería del vehículo y la batería interna. Cuando el inversor se enciende, entonces mostrará el voltaje total usado por el aparato que operado por el inversor. 10.2 Para arrancar el motor del vehículo Una chispa provocada cerca de la batería puede causar la explosión de la batería. Para reducir el riesgo de provocar chispas cerca de la batería: No utilice el Instant Power™ mientras carga la batería interna. 1. Apague el vehículo antes de hacer conexiones de cables. 2. Ubique los cables de C.A. y C.C. para reducir el riesgo de daños a la cubierta, a la puerta y a las piezas móviles o calientes del motor. NOTA: Si es necesario cerrar el cofre durante el proceso de arrancar el motor, asegúrese que el cofre no toque parte metálica de la batería o pele los cables. 3. Manténgase alejado de las paletas del ventilador, correas, poleas y otras piezas que podrían provocar lesiones. 4. Verifique la polaridad de los bornes de la batería. El borne POSITIVO (POS, P, +) de la batería generalmente posee un diámetro mayor al borne NEGATIVO (NEG, N, -). 5. Determine qué borne de la batería hace descarga a tierra (se encuentra conectado) con el chasis. Si el borne negativo hace descarga a tierra con el chasis (como en la mayor parte de los vehículos), ver el paso 6. Si el borne positivo hace descarga a tierra con el chasis, ver el paso 7. 6. En un vehículo con descarga a tierra por borne negativo, conecte el gancho POSITIVO (ROJO) del Instant Power™ al borne POSITIVO (POS, P, +) sin descarga a tierra de la batería. Conecte el gancho NEGATIVO (NEGRO) al chasis del vehículo o al bloque motor alejado de la batería. No conecte el gancho al carburador, líneas de combustible o cuerpos metálicos. Conecte a una pieza metálica de calibre grueso del marco o del bloque motor. 7. En un vehículo con descarga a tierra por borne positivo, conecte el gancho NEGATIVO (NEGRO) del Instant Power™ al borne NEGATIVO (NEG, N, -) sin descarga a tierra de la batería. Conecte el gancho POSITIVO (ROJO) al chasis del vehículo o al bloque motor alejado de la batería. No conecte al carburador, líneas de combustible o cuerpos metálicos. Conecte a una pieza metálica de calibre grueso del marco o del bloque motor. Riesgo de Explosión. Si ha conectado las pinzas al revés, escuchará un sonido de alarma. NO gire el botón-interruptor a la posición de ENCENDIDO (ON). Esto podría causar serios daños al Instant Power™ o al vehículo. Conecte los cables a la inversa y el zumbido dejará de sonar. 8. Gire el interruptor a ENCENDIDO, para operar la fuente de poder. Arranque el motor. Si el motor no da marcha de entre los 5 y 8 segundos, detenga el arranque y espere 1 minuto antes de intentar arrancarlo de nuevo. (Esto permitirá a la batería que se recupere.) • 17 • 9. Una vez que el motor haya arrancado, cerciórese de APAGAR al interruptorde la fuente de poder. Después desconecte la pinza negra (-) y después la roja (+), en ese orden. 10. Cargue el Instant Power™ tan pronto sea posible, después de usarse Riesgo de explosión. Para prevenir chispas, NUNCA, permita que las pinzas hagan contacto entre sí mismas o por medio de un metal. Nunca intente arrancar un a batería congelada. 10.3 Para hacer funcionar un aparato de 12V de CD El Instant Power™ es una fuente de poder para cualquier accesorio de 12V de corriente directa que estén equipados con enchufe de 12V. Utilícelo durante apagones, pesca o días de campo. Asegúrese que el aparato a conectarse se encuentre en la posición de APAGADO antes de conectarlo a la fuente de poder de 12V de CD. 1. Recargue inmediatamente después de desenchufar en aparato de 12V de CD. 10.4 El uso de Puerto USB El puerto USB provee poco más de 500 mA por 5V de CD. 1. Realice intervalos de no más de 10 minutos a la vez. Permita que el Instant Power™ se enfríe antes de usarla de nuevo. NOTA: Para prevenir un sobrecalentamiento, el compresor tiene una protección termal integrada internamente que apaga el compresor antes de sobrecargarse. En caso de que el compresor se apague solo, espere unos minutos y él mismo reiniciará la operación de nuevo después de enfriarse. NOTA: El Compresor de aire esta diseñado para 150 PSI. 10.7 Uso del inflador Riesgo de explosión. Lea las instrucciones del producto que va a ser inflado antes de usar el inflador. Evite sobre inflar, que el aire no exceda lo recomendado por el productor. Nunca deje el compresor de aire sin atender mientras lo usa. 1. Asegúrese que las pinzas estén fijas en el compartimiento. 2. Fije la manguera corrugada con el adaptador de la salida del inflador de alto-flujo colocada cerca del inflador en la parte de atrás del Instant Power™. 3. El adaptador principal para la manguera corrugada adjunto puede adaptarse a 4 diferentes medidas. En caso de necesitar otra medida diferente de adaptador se puede conectar al final del adaptador principal. 4. Inserte el adaptador en el producto que va a ser inflado. 5. Presione el selector del compresor/inflador a la posición INFLATOR (inflador) y comience a inflar. 6. Cuando el artículo es inflado al nivel deseado, presione el selector a la posición OFF (apagado) y quite el adaptador. 10.8 Uso del desinflador 1. Asegúrese que las pinzas estén fijas en el compartimiento. 2. Fije la manguera corrugada con la punta del adaptador de la salida del desinflador de alto-flujo colocada justamente en el lado del Instant Power™. 3. El adaptador principal fijado a la manguera corrugada puede adaptarse a 4 diferentes medidas. En caso de necesitar otra medida diferente de adaptador se puede conectar al final del adaptador principal. 4. Inserte el adaptador en el producto que va a ser desinflado. 5. Presione el selector del compresor/inflador a la posición INFLATOR (inflador) y desinfle el producto. 6. Cuando el artículo sea desinflado al nivel deseado, presione el selector a la posición OFF (apagado) y quite el adaptador. 10.9 Antes de usar el Inversor Instrucciones importantes de seguridad: 1. Mantenga el Instant Power™ bien ventilada para que disperse el calor generado mientras se usa. Asegúrese de que haya suficiente espacio alrededor y hacia arriba para que los ventiladores del Instant Power™ no tengan obstrucción. 2. También verifique que no exista fuego o ropa alrededor del Instant Power™. 3. Mantenga el Instant Power™ en lugar seco. 4. NO permita que el Instant Power™ entre en contacto con lluvia o humedad. 5. De ningún modo modifique las salidas de Corriente Alterna CA. 10.10 Uso del Inversor Es de suma importancia saber la carga continua en vatios del aparato que desea usar con el inversor. El Instant Power™ debe ser usada con aparatos que operados en 200 vatios o menos. Si los vatios no están marcados en el aparato use sólo aparatos que usen menos de 1.7 amperes de Corriente Alterna CA. Aparatos como televisiones, ventiladores o motores eléctricos requieren energía adicional para encender (comúnmente conocido como arranque o máxima energía). El Instant Power™ podría suplementar u operar en vatios; de cualquier forma aún los aparatos clasificados por debajo de los 200 vatios pueden exceder de la capacidad del inversor y lo apaga automáticamente por sobrecarga. No use el inversor con un producto que absorbe más vatios de los que el inversor puede proveer, esto podría dañar el inversor y el producto. Asegúrese que el aparato que sea usado sea compatible con las ondas senoidales del inversor. Realice siempre una prueba para asegurar que el inversor opere un equipo o un aparato. En caso de sobre carga, el mismo inversor está diseñado para apagarse automáticamente. Este rasgo de seguridad previene daño alguno al Inversor mientras se pone a prueba el aparato a un promedio de 200 vatios. Si re requiere operar dos aparatos, hágase la operación de uno por uno, para evitar sobrecarga al inversor y perder energía. La absorción de cada uno de los aparatos no debe exceder la capacidad de salida de vatios en una Operación Continua. Si usted esta usando el Inversor de energía para operar un cargador de baterías, monitoree la temperatura del cargador de baterías por aproximadamente 10 minutos. Si el cargador de baterías se pone anormalmente caliente, desconéctelo del Inversor inmediatamente. Usted puede utilizar una extensión del inversor al aparato sin disminuir la carga generada por el inversor. Para mejores resultados de operación, el cable de extensión debe ser de 16 AWG (1.31 mm2) o de más intensidad pero, que no exeda de 50 pies (15 metros). Este inversor usa ondas solenoids. Por lo tanto, no recomendamos para operar los siguientes aparatos: 1. Fuentes energía de en forma de conmutador 2. Líneas de corriente eléctrica 3. Transformadores clase2 4. Condensadores de capacidad 5. Motores ligeros. 6. Motores de ventilador 7. Hornos de microondas 8. Lámparas flourescentes y de alta intensidad (con balastra) 9. Cargadores de Baterías sin tranformador Al hacerlo, podría operar el aparato bajo intenso calor y sobrecalentarlo. 10.11 Operando con un Aparato de 120V de Corriente Alterna Para operar un aparato de 120V de CA 1. Asegúrese que las pinzas estén fijas en el compartimiento. 2. Primeramente, abrir la cubierta de salida de corriente CA en el panel del frente del Instant Power™. 3. Asegúrese de que el aparato de 120V a ser operado este APAGADO (OFF). 4. Conecte el aparato de 120V en la salida de corriente CA, y gire el interruptor del inversor a la posición ENCENDIDO. 5. Enciende el aparato de 120V. • 20 • 6. Si el aparato no funciona adecuadamente al momento de conectarlo al inversor, presione el botón ON, OFF, y ON una y otra vez consecutivamente. Si este proceso no tiene éxito, quiere decir que el Inversor no tiene la capacidad requerida para operar el aparato deseado. 7. Cargue Fuente de Poder™ tan pronto sea posible después de cada uso. Riesgo de descarga eléctrica. Una operación incorrecta de su inversor podría resultar en daños y lesiones personales. La salida del inversor es de 110V de CA y podría electrocutar o dañar de la misma forma que un tomacorriente doméstico de pared. NOTA: La cantidad máxima de carga es de 200 vatios. No use el inversor con un producto que absorba más de 200 vatios, porque podría causar daño al inversor y al producto. 11. 11.1 11.2 11.3 11.4 11.5 12. INSTRUCCIONES DE MANTENIMIENTO Después de usar y antes de realizar mantenimiento, desenchufe y desconecte el Instant Power™ (ver secciones 3 y 4). Utilice un paño seco para limpiar la corrosión de toda la batería y otra suciedad o aceite de los terminales, cables y carcasa del Instant Power™. Los ganchos en el Instant Power™ están vivas y producen arco o chisporroteo si hacen contacto entre sí. Para evitar arco accidental, siempre mantenga los ganchos en los soportes de almacenaje y el conmutador JUMP START ON/OFF en la posición OFF cuando el Instant Power™ no se está usando para arranque inmediato de un vehículo. 12.4 Si el Instant Power™ se mueve alrededor del taller o se transporta a otra localidad, trate de evitar/prevenir daño a los cables,pinzas y al Instant Power™. El ignorar estas recomendaciones, podría llegar a causarle daños personales o de inmueble. No use ni/o almacene el Instant Power™, bajo ninguna circustancia, en áreas donde puede causar daño alguno en caso de que la batería derrame ácido. 12.5 IMPORTANTE: • CARGUE INMEDIATAMENTE DESPUÉS DE CADA USO • MANTENGA LA UNIDAD COMPLETAMENTE CARGADA Cargue el Instant Power™ inmediatamente después de comprarla, después de cada uso y cada 30 días. La temperatura afecta a todas las baterías. La temperatura ideal de almacenaje es a los 70 grados Fahrenheit. POSIBLE CAUSA SOLUTIÓN El Interruptor de la fuente de Poder/USB no esta ENCENDIDO. Encienda el interruptor de la fuente de poder/USB. Las pinzas no hacen buena conexión a la batería. Asegúrese de que existe buena conexión a la batería y la carrocería. También que los puntos de las conexiones estén limpios. Gire las pinzas para una conexión efectiva. La batería de la fuente de poder no está cargada. Compruebe el estado de carga de la batería presionando el botón en el de Instant Power™ Vea la sección de los INDICADORES DE FUNCION DIGITALTIONS de este manual. La batería del vehículo esta defectuosa. Haga un chequeo de la batería. El aparato de 12V no enciende. Allumez le 12V la machine. Encienda el aparato de 12V. La batería de la fuente de poder no está cargada. Compruebe el estado de carga de la batería presionando el botón en el de Instant Power™ Vea la sección de los INDICADORES DE FUNCION DIGITALTIONS de este manual. El aparato de 12V absorbe más de 15A, o tiene un corto circuito. Desconecte el aparato de 12V. El interruptor interno se autoprogramará después de uno o dos minutes.
