[illustration]
Get Started
●
Make sure not to cover the mic with your finger etc. when you talk on the phone.
●
When an earphone (commercially available) is connected to the phone, sound is from the
earphone instead of by the Direct Wave Receiver.
●
Do not put a sticker, sheet, etc. on the display. The other party’s voice may become hard to hear.
●
How well sound can be heard differs with each individual.
●
How well sound can be heard depends on the surrounding environment.

Insert SIM Card
Follow these instructions to insert a SIM card. Remember to power off your phone before inserting a SIM
card.
Get Started
If your phone has become warm, insert after it has cooled. May cause burns.
1. Remove the battery cover.

Lift where marked ○ (indent) and create a gap between the battery cover and the phone.
Continue by sliding your finger completely around the phone under the battery cover to
remove.
2. Insert SIM card in SIM card slot.

Get Started
Insert gently being careful of SIM card orientation (notch/(gold) IC chip facing downward).
3. Attach the battery cover.

Press firmly where marked ○ so there are no gaps. Be careful not to press excessively and
damage the battery cover.
Phone Memory/SD Card
Your phone supports the use of an optional SD card (not included) to expand its storage capacity. It
supports cards up to 32 GB. Some cards may not operate properly with your phone.
The phone’s memory is also available for storing data such as system data, apps, and captured
pictures/videos.
SD Card Cautions
Content saved in phone memory/SD card: Content stored in the phone’s memory/SD card may be
altered/lost due to accidents, malfunctions, repairs, phone replacement, or other handling. Back up
important information regularly. The company is not responsible for damages from stored information
that is lost/altered.
Reading/Writing Data: Never power off or remove Battery while reading or writing data.
SD cards used on other mobile phones: A message indicating there is app data on the SD card
may appear if the SD card was used on another mobile phone (a device prior to model upgrade, etc.).
First transfer the data on the SD card to your phone with the following steps to use the data.
Drag the status bar down and open the Notifications panel > Follow the instructions in the message.
If there are folders and files with the same names in phone memory as on the SD card, a prompt
appears for whether to overwrite folders/files. Use adequate caution, as overwritten data in phone
memory cannot be restored.
Battery Level: A low battery charge may prevent reading/writing to the SD card.
Phone memory: By default, pictures, videos, and other media files captured on your phone are
saved in phone memory. Applications (third-party) you download may indicate that files are saved to
an SD card, however, they are saved to your phone’s memory.
Handling SD Card: Use/store SD cards away from the reach of infants. May cause choking if
swallowed.

Useful Features
The following topics detail many of your phone’s tools and features such as Sprint Direct Connect Now,
news services, maps and navigation, calendar, clock, social networking apps, music, memos, and more.
Sprint Direct Connect Now App
The Sprint Direct Connect Now app, available exclusively from Sprint, offers instant, two-way “walkietalkie-style” communication between you and your family, friends, and co-workers, all at the click of a
button. Perfect for get-in get-out conversations such as checking status, getting information, getting
®
directions, or coordinating with others—fast. Call Alert sends an alert to other Direct Connect users to let
them know you want to reach them.
About Sprint Direct Connect Now
The following Sprint Direct Connect Now services are available:
●
Direct Connect – Allows two-way radio communication with other Direct Connect users.
●
Group Connect – Creates and manages groups in Contacts, “on the fly,” or online to connect
instantly with up to 20 other Direct Connect users at the same time. (Currently Sprint phones do

Direct Connect Numbers
Sprint Direct Connect Now is compatible with two different types of Direct Connect numbers.
●
Separate numbers – Some Direct Connect numbers are a unique number (not a standard
wireless phone number). This type is made up of three sets of digits separated by asterisks (for
example, 444*5555*111). When calling a person or storing a contact with this type of number, be
sure to include the asterisks in the number.
●
A single number – Some Direct Connect numbers use the same numbers as the wireless number
for the phone (for example, 555-555-1234). If the person you are calling has a single number for
both voice calls and for Direct Connect, use that ten-digit phone number to make Direct Connect
calls. You do not need to add any asterisks (*) to the number.
Your Direct Connect Number
Your Direct Connect number is the same as your wireless phone number (for example, 555-555-1234).
Sprint Direct Connect Now is compatible with this type of Direct Connect number as well as Direct
Connect-specific numbers separated by asterisks (for example, 444*5555*111).
Tip: Users with a Nextel phone must always add asterisks (*) between sets of numbers to dial Direct
Connect numbers. If you use a single number, make sure to tell your contacts with Nextel phones to dial
the number using asterisks (*) in place of hyphens (for example, 555*555*1234).
Tip: One way to easily ensure that your contacts have your correct number is to call them so that they
can save your number from their Call Log or Recent calls list. Ask them for their contact information.
Remember you will need all digits of the number to make a successful call. Also, if they have a Nextel
phone or a separate number for Direct Connect, you will need to enter asterisks (*) between sets of
numbers.
Direct Connect Contacts
Entries from the Contacts application on your phone will appear in the Sprint Direct Connect Now app by
default. When you save a new contact in the Sprint Direct Connect Now app, it will likewise be saved to
the Contacts application.

In addition, you may hear the caller’s voice through the speakerphone. Default for Direct Connect calls is
speakerphone on. You can turn the speakerphone off and listen to Direct Connect calls through the
earpiece as you would a regular call, or you can listen through a headset. (For information on Direct
Connect audio options, see Direct Connect Settings.)

Call Alerts
Call Alerts let you notify others that you want to communicate with them using Direct Connect, without
sending an immediate Direct Connect communication. It can be less intrusive, because a Call Alert allows
the person to decide whether or not it’s convenient to respond at that time. When a user receives a Call
Alert, the phone sounds a tone and displays your name or Direct Connect number.

Connectivity
The following topics address your phone’s connectivity options, including USB file transfer and tethering,
®
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth , and more.
Connections Optimizer
The Connections Optimizer is a tool that automatically selects the best mobile network for your phone,
including “remembered” Wi-Fi networks.
About Connections Optimizer
The Connections Optimizer helps you manage and enhance your data experience by finding and
connecting to “remembered” Wi-Fi networks on your phone. Remembered Wi-Fi networks are networks
with which you have previously chosen to connect. Active Wi-Fi connections may offer improved
performance and generally improve battery life while allowing you to talk on the phone and use data at
the same time.
The Connections Optimizer works by searching for available “remembered” Wi-Fi networks. If you do not
leave your Wi-Fi antenna on all the time, you will only notice the Connections Optimizer operating at
certain times of the day in a small number of locations on the network. Your Wi-Fi antenna will conserve
battery by scanning for connections periodically (not continuously), and if no connection is achieved, the
antennas will be turned off. You may also manually turn the antennas off during the scan period.
To facilitate quality assurance and enable feature enhancements, information is collected about your
battery levels, Wi-Fi and network connections and usage. No personal information is collected.

•
For a vCard contact file, if there are multiple vCard files on your storage card, you can
choose to import one, several, or all of those contacts to your contacts list.
View Your Phone’s Screen on Other
Devices
You can display your phone’s screen content on the screen of another device (mirroring function). This
allows you to enjoy pictures and videos on your phone on the larger screen of a TV or similar device.
Your phone connects to nearby Wi-Fi Direct-capable devices via Wi-Fi without needing to route through
an access point.

Make and Receive Worldwide Calls
When traveling on international networks, you can place and answer calls as you would on the Sprint
network (see Place and Answer Calls), although some additional instructions may be required to place a
call. Some features and services are not available in all countries. For more information on services that
are available while roaming, visit sprint.com/sww.
Make Calls Using Plus (+) Code Dialing
Placing calls from one country to another country is simple with the Plus (+) Code Dialing feature. When
placing international calls, you can use Plus Code Dialing to enter the appropriate international access
code for your location (for example, 011 for international calls placed from the United States).
Note: Plus Code Dialing is only available when roaming internationally on GSM networks and on certain
CDMA networks in the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean.
Note: International access codes and dialing information are available online at sprint.com/sww.
To use Plus Code Dialing to place an international call:
1. From home, touch

Sprint voicemail. You will need to be sure your voicemail box is already set up and that you know your
voicemail password.
Note: Sprint voicemail may not be available on all networks; check sprint.com/sww for service information.
International Voicemail Troubleshooting
There are a few tips to keep in mind when using Sprint voicemail while traveling.
●
Some carriers may not support voicemail indicators. It may be necessary to call your voicemail to
see if you have any new messages.
●
If you hear the message “Please enter the number of the subscriber you wish to call,” enter your
10-digit wireless phone number.
Set Up Your Voicemail Access Number for

communicate by telephone.
Your phone is compatible with select TTY devices. Please check with the manufacturer of your TTY
device to ensure that it supports digital wireless transmission. Your phone and TTY device will connect
using a special cable that plugs into your phone’s headset jack. If this cable was not provided with your
TTY device, contact your TTY device manufacturer to purchase the connector cable.

unintelligible. The problem encountered appears related to TTY equipment or software used by PSAPs.
This matter has been brought to the attention of the FCC, and the wireless industry and the PSAP
community are currently working to resolve this.
