Activating the SARTIn the event of an emergency remove the SART from its bracket and (1)flip the black plastictab from left (LOCK) to right (UNLOCK). (2) To activate the SART remove the pin bypulling it downward. The SA50 canbe both manually or automatically activ-ated.1. InstallationUsing the supplied bulkhead bracket,mount the SART in a suitable andprotected location, where it can be easilyreached in the event of an emergency. TheSART will simply clip onto the bracketprovided.The SART may also be pre-packed in thelife raft, in which case the manufacturer willprovide mounting instructions for use whenthe life raft is inflated.IMPORTANT!The  SA50 must not be installed withinthe main beam of the ship’s radar. Acompass-safe distance of at least 1m(3 ft) must be observed.Mounting bracketFig. 2.1 - Activating the SART

DONOT use solvents on this product as this maydamage the plastic components.4. Testing the SARTAs a minimum the SART should be testedannually to ensure correct performance. •Remove the SART from its mounting androtate the security tab to the UNLOCKposition. •Push the gray button down to the TESTposition and hold it down until the test iscompleted.3. Care and MaintenanceThe  SART will need very little maintenance between battery replacements. The batteriesrequire replacement after five years (always check the label on the battery pack), or after use.The replacement date is shown on a label on the outside of the unit.•Check that the indicator on the SART is flashing. On the ship’s X-band radar observe thatthe SART is displayed as blips, adjusting the radar’s gain if necessary.When testing is completed, return the gray button to the SAFE position and rotate the primingtab back to the LOCK position to secure the transponder. When testing DO NOT remove thepin.NOTE —If the SART is inadvertendly activated, it can be locked again by pressing down theactivation button (to the SAFE position) and reinserting the pin.For further information about the SIMRAD product range and services, please visit ourwebsite at: www.simrad.com.Take the SART and the mounting pole (ifavailable) to the life raft. When the life raft isinflated, EITHER (1) unwind the lanyard (which is attached tothe pin) and attach the SART to the life raft,OR (2) open out the mounting pole (which willtwist-lock into position) and mount the SARTon the thinner end of the pole. Pass itthrough the aperture in the canopy andlocate the bottom of the pole in the pocketprovided. Secure the SART with the tapesprovided on the life raft.
