Follow all warnings and instructions.Do not use Slingbox SOLO near water.Do not place the product near heat sources such as direct sunlight, radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.Do not block the ventilation holes on top of the Slingbox SOLO. Slingbox SOLO requires adequate ventilation. Do not place Slingbox SOLOin a cabinet or built-in installation unless sufficient ventilation is provided. Do not place anything on top of the Slingbox SOLO, including another Slingbox SOLO.Operate this product from the type of power source indicated on the marking label.Route power cables so they are not likely to be walked on, rolled over, or pinched by items placed upon or against them, or otherwise subject to abuse, paying particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the product.Never push objects of any kind into this product through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product.Unplug Slingbox SOLO before cleaning. Use only a dry cloth to clean the Slingbox SOLO.Do not place this product on an unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table.Outdoor antenna grounding. If an outside antenna or cable system is connected to the product, be sure the antenna or cable system is grounded to provide some protection against voltage surges and built-up static charges. Article 810 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70 1984, provides information with regard to proper grounding of the mast and supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of grounding conductors, location of antenna discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode.Lightning. For added protection of this product during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods, unplug it from the wall outlet.Power lines. An outside antenna system should not be located near overhead power lines or other electric light or power circuits, or where it can fall into such power lines or circuits. When installing an outside antenna system, extreme care should be taken to keep from touching such power lines or circuits as contact with them might be fatal.Servicing. Do not attempt to service this product yourself, as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Contact your local office for servicing information.

Connecting Slingbox SOLO • Page 6 Connecting Slingbox SOLOConnecting Slingbox SOLO is simple. First, you connect it to your computer, and then you connect it to your video device. Connecting Slingbox SOLO to a video device is optional.Before you beginWrite down the type, brand and model of the audio/video device that will be connected to your Slingbox SOLO. You'll need this information later on for the software portion of the setup.DEVICE TYPE: (EX: DVR) _________________________________BRAND: (EX: DISH NETWORK) _________________________________MODEL: (EX: ViP622) _________________________________STEP 1: CONNECT AUDIOUsing your flashlight, find the audio connections on the back of your TV and the back of your video device. The red connector is for the right audio channel and white is for the left audio channel.•Take the composite cable out of the A/V Pack. Connect the red and white audio cables to the ports labeled OUT on your Slingbox SOLO. Connect the other end to the input audio ports on your TV. These ports are typically labeled IN or INPUT.
Connecting Slingbox SOLO • Page 7 •Connect your existing set of red and white audio cables to the output ports on your video source (such as a DVR, Cable Box, Satellite Receiver or DVD Player). These ports are typically labeled OUT or OUTPUT. Connect the other end of these cables to the ports labeled IN on your Slingbox SOLO. STEP 2: CONNECT VIDEONow that you’ve completed setting up the audio connections, you can set up the video connections.The Slingbox SOLO has connections for composite video, S-video, and component video. Again, using your flashlight, check the back of your TV and the back of your video device to see the kinds of available connectors they have for video. •COMPOSITE: If your video device and your TV have available composite connections (white, red and yellow), connect the yellow cable to the connection labeled IN on your Slingbox SOLO. Connect the other end of the yellow cable to the output connection on your video device. With a composite connection, the yellow connection carries video.•S-VIDEO: If your video device and your TV have available S-video connections (black with multiple pins), connect the [included?] S-video cable to the connection labeled IN on your Slingbox SOLO. Connect the other end of the S-video cable to the output connection on your video device. The S-video connection carries video but no sound. •HD-COMPONENT: If your video device and your TV have available component connections (a set of green, blue and red connections), you’ll need to purchase a set of component cables. Connect these cables to the component connections labeled IN on your Slingbox SOLO. Connect the other ends of the cables to the output connections on your video device. The component connection carries video but no sound. Once you find and set up the connections, write down the type of connection you use. Connecting Slingbox SOLO • Page 8 STEP 3: CONNECT THE REMOTE CONTROL IR CABLE•Remove the remote control IR cable from the A/V Pack. •Connect the remote control IR cable to the IR connector on the Slingbox. •Place the remote control IR cable heads on the top or bottom of your DVR or Cable/Satellite BOX Receiver so they point at its IR sensor.Make sure they extend out far enough over the front of the device to send a signal to your Cable Box or Satellite Receiver. You may want to affix the remote control IR cables using the adhesive pads after installation is complete.TIP: The IR sensor is on the front of your Cable/Satellite box or DVR, usually behind a dark, sometimes reddish plastic window. If you don’t see the sensor, shine a flashlight through the window and look for a small bulb similar to the one on the end of the remote control cable.STEP 4: CONNECT TO YOUR NETWORK•Remove the Ethernet cable from the Power/Network Pack. •Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the Slingbox NETWORK connection. •Connect the other end to your home network. •The Slingbox works with any high-speed Internet connection or broadband home network. You must have a router to use the Slingbox.TIP: If you have multiple routers on your home network, please go to visit support.slingmedia.com for instructions on how to set up the Slingbox on your network.STEP 5: CONNECT THE POWER SOURCE•Remove the power adapter from the Power/Network Pack.
Connecting Slingbox SOLO • Page 9 •Connect the power adapter into the Slingbox POWER connection.•Plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet. WARNING: THE INCLUDED POWER SUPPLY IS FOR THE SLINGBOX SOLO. DO NOT USE THIS POWER SUPPLY ON ANY OTHER SLING MEDIA PRODUCT. When plugged in, the power light comes on, and the lights blink a few times as the Slingbox starts up. The network light will remain on while your Slingbox is successfully connected to your network. Both the power and network lights should be solid.TIP: If the network light does not come on within 30 seconds, make sure that you correctly connected the Slingbox to your network/router. See the Troubleshooting section for more solutions, or go to: http://www.support.slingmedia.com for more information.STEP 6: SOFTWARE SETUPNow that you have the Slingbox set up, you are ready to install the software. Before you begin, make sure your computer is on the same network as your Slingbox. •Go to http://www.support.slingmedia.com and follow the instructions to download the latest installation software to your computer.STEP 7: USING YOUR SLINGBOXCongratulations! Now that you’ve set up everything, you’re now ready to enjoy your TV on your PC, Mac or mobile device—at home or 3,000 miles away—via the Internet. Thanks for buying the Slingbox SOLO. Troubleshooting • Page 10 TroubleshootingBefore you try anything else:•Make sure that everything is connected properly.•Make sure that all of the cables are firmly connected.•Make sure that everything is plugged in and turned on.I don’t understand what the lights on the front of Slingbox SOLO mean. Is something wrong?There are three LED lights on the front of Slingbox SOLO. No. This is normal.I can’t change some settings/preferences, they’re grayed outSome settings or preference buttons may be grayed out if you’re watching something in SlingPlayer. Click the Stop button in SlingPlayer’s main window to stop the video and to enable these buttons. Buttons may also be grayed out if the Setup Assistant is running.SlingPlayer Remote won’t control my device, but I can see videoYour IR emitter may not be positioned so that it can signal your device’s infrared sensor. Use a flashlight to locate the infrared sensor on your set-top box or other video device. The infrared sensor is on the front of your device, usually behind a dark, sometimes reddish plastic window. If you don’t see the sensor, shine a flashlight through the window and look for a small bulb similar to the one on the end of the emitters.The emitterThe infrared sensor
Troubleshooting • Page 11 My firewall security software is blocking SlingPlayerThe Setup Wizard and SlingPlayer application will automatically discover Slingbox SOLO on your home network.Your personal firewall security software may block this process or categorize Slingbox SOLO as an “intruding device.” If this occurs, it will display a warning. To avoid this, you need to change your security software settings to allow Slingbox SOLO as a device on your network. For information on making this change, see the documentation that came with the security or firewall software.Restoring Slingbox SOLO to Factory SettingsCertain situations may require you to restore your Slingbox SOLO to factory settings. For example:•If you replace the router that was originally connected to Slingbox SOLO.•If you forgot your password.•If you move your Slingbox SOLO to another house or network. With your Slingbox SOLO powered on, press and hold the Reset button on the back of Slingbox SOLO for five seconds. The lights on the front of Slingbox SOLO quickly flash and then flash slowly. Slingbox SOLO is reset after 30 seconds. Once reset, the Power light stays on.NoteIf you restore factory settings, all of your Slingbox SOLO settings will be cleared and it will need to be reconfigured.
