Connecting Slingbox SOLO
Connecting Slingbox SOLO is simple. First, you connect it to your computer, and then you connect it to your
video device. Connecting Slingbox SOLO to a video device is optional.
Before you begin
Write down the type, brand and model of the audio/video device that will be connected to your Slingbox SOLO.
You'll need this information later on for the software portion of the setup.
DEVICE TYPE: (EX: DVR) _________________________________
BRAND: (EX: DISH NETWORK) _________________________________
MODEL: (EX: ViP622) _________________________________
STEP 1: CONNECT AUDIO
Using your flashlight, find the audio connections on the back of your TV and the back of your video device. The
red connector is for the right audio channel and white is for the left audio channel.
•Take the composite cable out of the A/V Pack. Connect the red and white audio cables to the ports labeled
OUT on your Slingbox SOLO. Connect the other end to the input audio ports on your TV. These ports are
typically labeled IN or INPUT.
Connecting Slingbox SOLO • Page 7
•Connect your existing set of red and white audio cables to the output ports on your video source (such
as a DVR, Cable Box, Satellite Receiver or DVD Player). These ports are typically labeled OUT or OUTPUT.
Connect the other end of these cables to the ports labeled IN on your Slingbox SOLO.
STEP 2: CONNECT VIDEO
Now that you’ve completed setting up the audio connections, you can set up the video connections.
The Slingbox SOLO has connections for composite video, S-video, and component video. Again, using your
flashlight, check the back of your TV and the back of your video device to see the kinds of available connectors
they have for video.
•COMPOSITE: If your video device and your TV have available composite connections (white, red and
yellow), connect the yellow cable to the connection labeled IN on your Slingbox SOLO. Connect the other
end of the yellow cable to the output connection on your video device. With a composite connection, the
yellow connection carries video.
•S-VIDEO: If your video device and your TV have available S-video connections (black with multiple pins),
connect the [included?] S-video cable to the connection labeled IN on your Slingbox SOLO. Connect the
other end of the S-video cable to the output connection on your video device. The S-video connection
carries video but no sound.
•HD-COMPONENT: If your video device and your TV have available component connections (a set of
green, blue and red connections), you’ll need to purchase a set of component cables. Connect these
cables to the component connections labeled IN on your Slingbox SOLO. Connect the other ends of the
cables to the output connections on your video device. The component connection carries video but no
sound.
Once you find and set up the connections, write down the type of connection you use. You’ll need this
information later when you set up the software.

STEP 3: CONNECT THE REMOTE CONTROL IR CABLE
•Remove the remote control IR cable from the A/V Pack.
•Connect the remote control IR cable to the IR connector on the Slingbox.
•Place the remote control IR cable heads on the top or bottom of your DVR or Cable/Satellite BOX Receiver
so they point at its IR sensor.
Make sure they extend out far enough over the front of the device to send a signal to your Cable Box or Satellite
Receiver. You may want to affix the remote control IR cables using the adhesive pads after installation is
complete.
TIP: The IR sensor is on the front of your Cable/Satellite box or DVR, usually behind a dark, sometimes reddish
plastic window. If you don’t see the sensor, shine a flashlight through the window and look for a small bulb similar
to the one on the end of the remote control cable.
STEP 4: CONNECT TO YOUR NETWORK
•Remove the Ethernet cable from the Power/Network Pack.
•Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the Slingbox NETWORK connection.
•Connect the other end to your home network.
•The Slingbox works with any high-speed Internet connection or broadband home network. You must have
a router to use the Slingbox.
TIP: If you have multiple routers on your home network, please go to visit support.slingmedia.com for
instructions on how to set up the Slingbox on your network.
STEP 5: CONNECT THE POWER SOURCE
•Remove the power adapter from the Power/Network Pack.
Connecting Slingbox SOLO • Page 9
•Connect the power adapter into the Slingbox POWER connection.
•Plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet.
WARNING: THE INCLUDED POWER SUPPLY IS FOR THE SLINGBOX SOLO. DO NOT USE THIS POWER
SUPPLY ON ANY OTHER SLING MEDIA PRODUCT.
When plugged in, the power light comes on, and the lights blink a few times as the Slingbox starts up. The
network light will remain on while your Slingbox is successfully connected to your network. Both the power and
network lights should be solid.
TIP: If the network light does not come on within 30 seconds, make sure that you correctly connected the
Slingbox to your network/router. See the Troubleshooting section for more solutions, or go to:
http://www.support.slingmedia.com for more information.
STEP 6: SOFTWARE SETUP
Now that you have the Slingbox set up, you are ready to install the software. Before you begin, make sure your
computer is on the same network as your Slingbox.
