OE Retainer Clip Control Sleeve Part No. • Reamer • Reamer Jig • Guide Pin OE Control Spring CAUTION CAUTION: For 40 and 41 series transmissions, this kit CANNOT be used in early units that have #33 separator plates. Kit can only be used in later designs that have a #4 retainer clip in the TCC control valve bore (main illustration). Kit is compatible with all 42LE, 42RLE and 62TE units. 1. Disassembly a. Remove OE retainer clip and save for reuse. b. Remove OE TCC control plunger and sleeve assembly. Discard plunger and sleeve; save spring for reuse. c. Remove and discard OE TCC control valve. d. Remove OE clip #4 that retains TCC dampener plunger and set aside for reuse. NOTE: 62TE does not have a #4 retainer clip or a dampener plunger and spring. e. Remove OE TCC dampener plunger and spring. Discard plunger; save spring for reuse. 2. Bore Reaming Ream TCC control bore (for reaming instructions/reamer care, please visit www.sonnax.com). Installation & Assembly a. Thoroughly clean valve bore and body, removing all debris. Figure 2 TCC Control Assembly NOTE: For 62TE, skip to step "d". b. Install OE dampener spring into Sonnax dampener plunger. Insert spring/ plunger assembly into bore, spring end first. NOTE: Dampener spring has the larger wire diameter of the two OE springs. Ensure the TCC dampener spring is correctly seated in the valve body casting pocket; spring must be guided into pocket. c. A pply pressure to TCC dampener plunger with a screwdriver to compress, then reinstall OE retainer clip #4. Sonnax TCC Control Plunger Sonnax TCC Control Sleeve OE TCC Control Spring d. Install Sonnax TCC control valve. e. Remove Sonnax TCC control plunger from Sonnax TCC control sleeve. Figure 3 f. Install OE TCC control spring into Sonnax TCC control sleeve. 17"-Hg g. Install Sonnax TCC control plunger into OE TCC control spring/Sonnax sleeve assembly. 20 15 10 25 h. Install TCC control assembly (Sonnax plunger, OE spring and Sonnax sleeve) into bore (Figure 2). Spring will compress as assembly is pushed into bore. 5 0 30 VACUUM TEST 17"-Hg i. Reinstall OE retainer clip. 42RLE Valve Body 4. Final Testing Vacuum testing at the port(s) indicated holds the recommended minimum 17 and 18 in-Hg (Figures 3 & 4). NOTE: 42RLE shown. Testing locations on 40, 41 and 42 series transmissions very similar.
