DRAFT5DescriptionThe Wireless Communication System may be used in conjunction with the Stryker Turbo 5Communication Helmet.  The Turbo 5 Communication Helmet is a component of the PersonalProtection System which is intended as a personal protection system to provide a barrierbetween the operating environment and the members of the surgical team in order to helpprotect against contamination and/or exposure to infectious body fluids and harmfulmicroorganisms.The Wireless Communication System facilitates simultaneous communication between asmany as four people where communication may be compromised by ambient noise ormuffled by protective surgical gear.  The system allows hands-free direct communication forsurgical team members within the operating room and for team members in different workareas.  To facilitate clarity, ambient noise is filtered by noise canceling microphones.  Underoptimal conditions, transmission range extends to .125 mile.The system requires a Digitally Matched Set of Radios which are provided with four ACCharger/Adaptors and a Multiple Outlet Power Strip. Voice transmits through Turbo 5Communication Helmets or Stand Alone Headsets. DRAFT7InstructionsColor Code Your Radios NOTES:• The radios in this set are digitally matched and must beretained as a set.  Color ID labels are provided so you cancolor code each radio in the set with the same color labelsfor quick reference.• If your facility uses multiple sets of radios, select a uniquecolor to differentiate each set.  If colors are duplicated,write on the labels to further identify matched set.1. Select one label set.  For example, red.2. Apply the label marked MASTER on the masterradio.  Select the labels marked REMOTE from thesame label set and apply them to the remoteradios.Charging the Radios and Supplemental BatteryCAUTIONS:•Do not substitute the AC charger/adaptors or power stripas damage may occur to the battery.• Do not exceed 16 hours of charging time.  For optimumbattery performance and life, do not leave a radio orsupplemental battery connected to the AC charger/adaptorafter reaching full charge.NOTE: Radios must be turned off while charging.1. Plug the power strip into an AC walloutlet.2. Turn the power strip on.  The toggleswitch will illuminate.3. Plug the AC charger/adaptors intothe power strip receptacles.4. Ensure each radio is turned off.5. Plug the AC charger/adaptorconnectors firmly into eachradio and/or supplementalbattery jack.  The chargeindicator will illuminate toindicate a chargingconnection.6. Allow radios and/orsupplemental batteries tocharge for a minimum of12 hours.
DRAFT8Using the RadiosNOTES:• Radios must fully charged before use.•Radios must be from the same digitally matched set.  Amatched set will have the same code number and colorcode if you’ve opted to use the color code labels.•The master radio must be turned on prior to turning onthe remote radios and remain in proximity to otherradios.• Communication will be disrupted if the master radio isturned off.  Remote radios may be turned off and onwithout disrupting other team members.•Audio performance will become erratic with excessiveinterference such as squeaking or buzzing if batterypower becomes too low.• A supplemental battery may be used to prolongcommunication.  See instructions for Using aSupplemental Battery.1. Verify that each radio has the same ID number toensure a digitally matched set.  Additionally, if colorcode labels were used, they will facilitate quickeridentification of a digitally matched set.2. Make sure each radio is turned off.3. Put on the headsets/helmets.  If using the Turbo 5Communication Helmet, refer to instructions suppliedwith the helmet.  If using a stand-alone headset, adjustthe boom so that the microphone is approximately 1.0inch away from the mouth.4. Hang radios from the waistband on the left hip toensure free arm movement and convenient access tothe on/off/volume dial.5. Plug the headset/helmet cable into each radio.6. Initially turn on the master radio with the on/off-volumedial keeping the volume low.  The power indicator willimmediately illuminate.  Wait 15 seconds then turn oneach remote radio.7. Verify that communication is established by havingteam members speak into their microphones.  Adjustthe on/off-volume dial to set volume at a comfortablelevel.8. If using a helmet, put on the Steri-Shield togas orhoods.  Refer to instructions supplied with the togasand hoods.NOTE:  Communication will be disrupted if the master radiois turned off.  To reestablish communication, turn eachradio off.  Turn the master radio on again and wait 15

Install the cable into the radio jack andthread the collar to secure the connection.  Theradio’s charge indicator will illuminate while thesupplemental battery is in use.
