Safety information is intended for household This appliance is equipped with a polarized plug. This type of plug has one blade wider than the other. The plug will fit into an electrical outlet only one way. This is a safety feature intended to help reduce the risk of electrical shock. If you are unable to insert the plug into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fit, contact a qualified electrician to replace the obsolete outlet. Do not attempt to defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug by modifying the plug in any way. The length of the cord used on this appliance was selected to reduce the hazards of becoming tangled in, or tripping over a longer cord. If a longer cord is necessary an approved extension cord may be used. The electrical rating of the extension cord must be equal to or greater than the rating of the appliance. Care must be taken to arrange the extension cord so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or accidentally tripped over. This appliance is equipped with a fully tempered safety glass door. The tempered glass is four times stronger than ordinary glass and more resistant to breakage. Tempered glass can break, however it breaks into pieces with no sharp edges. Care must be taken to avoid scratching door surface or nicking edges. If the door has a scratch or nick, call our toll-free customer assistance number. When heavy foods are on the oven rack, do not pull the oven rack out more than halfway. To baste or check for doneness, remove food from the oven and place on heat-resistant countertop surface or trivet. Do not place bake pan directly on heat shields that protect lower heating elements. To avoid an electrical circuit overload, do not operate another high-wattage appliance on the same circuit with the toaster oven. Parts and Features 1. Bread Slot 2. Plug toaster into electrical outlet. Make sure that the Mode Selector is in "Toast" position (slot open). 2. Place bread or bagel in slots. Select toast shade and press down bread lifter. 4 TM 3. At the end of toasting cycle, bread will pop up automatically. NOTE: The bread lifter will not latch down unless the toaster is plugged in. 4. To stop the toasting cycle sooner, lift up bread lifter. Toaster Tips and Troubleshooting • Toasting is affected by the temperature of the bread. Room temperature bread may toast to a medium color on Medium. The same type of bread that has been refrigerated may require setting Medium Dark, and if frozen, Dark. • The moisture content will also affect toasting. Fresh bagels, made locally, will have a higher moisture content than bagels purchased in the bread section of the supermarket. Fresh bagels made locally may require two toasting cycles. • Dark is the darkest shade of toast color. If a darker shade is desired, reset at Medium, watch closely and toast for a second cycle. Toasting • Because of the irregular surface of English muffins, they may require more than one toasting cycle. After toasting for one cycle on Medium Dark, if a darker shade is desired, adjust shade selector to setting Light or Medium Light and toast for a second cycle. Watch closely to avoid overbrowning. English muffins cut with a knife toast more evenly than English muffins split with a fork. • To remove food that becomes lodged in food slots, disconnect from outlet and allow toaster to cool. Turn toaster upside down and shake. Do not use fork or other utensil that could damage heating element or result in risk of fire or electrical shock. Guide FOOD Shade Setting Mode/Temp. The indicator light will come on and oven will begin heating. 3. When finished, turn OFE Unplug from outlet. Baking Tip: Most foods should be baked according to package or recipe directions. Watch carefully and adjust the time or temperature if necessary. Oven Tips and Fire Hazard • Do not leave oven unattended during operation. • Keep one inch between food and heating element. • Do not use oven cooking bags. • Do not heat foods in plastic containers. • Follow food manufacturers instructions. Troubleshooting • To reheat pizza, never place box in oven. Cook at 450°F (230°C) for 3 minutes or until ready. • For crisp crust pizza, cook frozen pizza directly on oven rack. • For soft crust pizza, cook on baking pan. • For a homemade crust pizza (or any soft dough), cook pizza on baking pan. 6 WARNING • To toast regular toaster pastry or frozen pastry toast directly on the oven rack. If pastry has a glaze of frosting, use baking pan. • When toasting, condensation may form on the oven door. A toaster oven is enclosed so the moisture is slow to escape. After use, wipe door to dry and make clean-up easier. • Remove food immediately or the heat remaining in the toaster oven will continue to bake and dry out your food. Cleaning the Toastation Your toaster oven should be cleaned regularly for best performance and long life. Regular cleaning will also reduce the risk of fire hazard. 1. Unplug oven and allow to cool. 2. Wash oven rack and baking pan in hot, soapy water. Rinse and dry. Do not use abrasive cleansers or steel wool. 3. To clean the crumb tray, slide out crumb tray. Wipe crumb tray with a damp cloth. TM 4. To clean the inside of the oven, wipe oven walls, bottom of oven, and glass door with a damp, soapy cloth. Repeat with a damp, clean cloth. Slide crumb tray back into position. 5. For stubborn stains, use a plastic scouring pad. 6. To clean the outside of the oven, wipe with a damp cloth. 7. Do not use abrasive cleansers. NOTE: Do not clean with metal scouring pads. Pieces can break off pad and touch electrical parts, causing a risk of electric shock. Troubleshooting The oven will not heat. Check to make sure the electrical outlet is working and the oven is plugged in. Next turn the Temperature Knob to 350°F (180°C). The Indicator Light should now be lit. Moisture forms on the inside of the oven door when toasting, This is normal when toasting in a toaster oven. Moisture is slower to escape from the toaster oven than from a toaster. The amount of moisture will differ between fresh bread, bagels, and frozen pastry. An odor and smoke comes from the oven. Smoke and odor is normal during the first use of most heating appliances. This will not be present after the initial heating period. The Indicator Light stays on. Turn ON/OFF Knob to OFE If light stays on, unplug unit and call our toll-free customer service number for information on examination, repair or electrical or mechanical adjustment. Do not continue to use your toaster oven. Some foods burn and some are not done. Adjust the oven temperature or cooking time for best results with your recipes.
