This manual describes an engine-driven, revolving field,
alternating current (AC) generator designed to supply
electrical power for operating compatible electrical lighting,
appliances,tools and motor loads.Thegenerator's revolving
field is driven at about 3,600 rpm by a single-cylinder engine.

battery charge cables to charge a 12Volt battery.
120Volt AC, 20 Amp Duplex Receptacles -- May be

120/240 Volt AC, 30 Amp Locking Receptacle -- May

Air Cleaner -- Uses a dry type filter element and foam
pre-cleaner to limit the amount of dirt and dust sucked
into the engine.

battery provides power to start the engine.
Choke Lever -- Used when starting a cold engine.

Circuit Breakers (AC) --The 120VottAC,20A duplex
receptacles are provided with "push to reset" circuit
breakers to protect the generator againstelectrical overload.
DataTag - Provides model, revision and serial number of
generator. Pleasehavethese readily availableif calling for
assistance.

Fuel Tank -- Capacity of seven (7) U.S.gallons.
Start Switch --Turn to start the engine.
Grounding Fastener -- If required, please consult a
qualified electrician, electrical inspector,or localagency
having jurisdiction.
Oil Fill Cap --Add oil to engine here.
Spark Arrester MufflerExhaust muffler lowers engine
noise and is equipped with a spark attester screen.
Rocker Switch Circuit Breaker --The 120/240VoltAC,
30A lockingreceptacleis provided with a rocker switch circuit
breaker to protect the generator againstelectricaloverload.
This switch also controls all receptacles.

ASSEMBLY

To install:

Your generator requires attachment of the negative battery
cable and is ready for useafter it has been properly
serviced with the recommended oil and fuel.
If you have any problems with the assembly of your
generator, please call the generator helpline at
1-888-61 1-6708.

Set carton on a rigid fiat surface with "This Side Up"
arrows pointing upward.

Carefully open top flaps of shipping carton.

Cut down corners of carton from top to bottom and
lay that side of carton down fiat.

Remove all packing material, carton fillers,etc.

Roll generator out of shipping carton.

Attach

Cable

The sealed battery on the generator isfully charged and
pre-installed except for the negative (black) battery cable.
You will need a I/2" or 13 mm wrench to installthe
negative battery cable.

Cut off tie wrap securing loose end of negative (black)
cable.

Attach negative battery cable with 5/16" x 3/4" screw
and lock washer to the engine block, next to the
starter (Figure I).Tighten securely.

You will need two I/2" or 13 mm wrenches to attach the
handle.
I.

Attach handle to right side of generator frame (viewing
unit from front), as shown in Figure 2, with a 60 mm
capscrew,flat washers, nylon washers, and lock nut.

CAUTION

The generator has a system ground that connects the
generator frame components to the ground terminals on
the AC output receptacles.The system ground is connected
to the AC neutral wire (see "Equipment Description",
earlier in this manual).

See"Don't Overload Generator" on page 13.

Special Requirements

Start generator and let engine stabilize before connecting
electrical loads.

There may be Federalor State Occupational Safety and
Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, local codes, or
ordinances that apply to the intended use of the generator.
Pleaseconsult a qualified electrician, electrical inspector,or
the localagency having jurisdiction.

Connect electrical loads in OFF position, then turn ON for
operation.
Turn electrical loads OFF and disconnect from generator
before stopping generator.

• In some areas,generators are required to be registered
with local utility companies.

IMPORTANT: Always unplug the battery float charger
before starting the generator.

• If the generator is used at a construction site, there may
be additional regulations which must be observed.

power, and must comply with all applicable lawsand

surface will cause the unit not to start or shut down during
operation.

Follow start instructionsgiven in engine owner's manual
and turn start switch on generator to "Start" position
(Figure 3).To prolong life of starter components, DO
NOT hold starter switch in "Start" position for more
than 15seconds,and pausefor I minute.

NOTE: If engine starts but fails to run, or if unit shuts
down during operation, make sure unit is on a level surface
and check for proper oil level in crankcase.This unit may be
equipped with a low oil protection device. Seeengine
manual.

Section 4: Operation

Jump

Start

Procedure

If the generator's starting battery fails, usethe following
instructions to jump start your generator.You can jump
start the generator using any 12Volt automotive or utility
style storage battery.
I.

Unscrew the fuse holder and remove the generator's
l0 Amp in-linefuse (Figure 4).Verify the fuse is good
or replace with a known good fuse. Reinstall fuse in
the fuse holder.

Connect the other RED jumper cable clamp to the
starting battery's POSITIVE battery terminal.

Connect the BLACK jumper cable clamp to the
starting battery's NEGATIVE battery terminal.

Connect the other BLACK jumper cable clamp to the
GROUNDING FASTENERon the generator, as shown
in Figure 5.

Start the generator as described in "Starting the
Engine" and remove jumper cables in reverse order of
connections.

Slide the red rubber boot back onto the generator's
POSITIVE battery terminal.

If you have any questions, please call the Generator
Helpline at 1-888-611-6708, M-F 8-5 CT.
IMPORTANT: When jump starting, alwayswear proper eye
protection and never lean over battery. Inspect both
batteries before connecting booster cables.DO NOT jump
start a damagedbattery. Be sure vent caps are tight and level.

• Let engine stabilize and warm up for a few minutes after
starting.

Slide the red rubber boot off the generator's battery
terminal and push it onto the red wire, thus
uncovering the POSITIVE battery terminal.

Using standard automotive jumper cables,connect the
RED jumper cable clamp to the generator's POSITIVE
battery terminal (Figure 5).

• Plug in and turn on the desired 120 and/or 240 Vott AC,
single phase,60 Hz electrical loads.
• DO NOT connect 240Volt loads to the 120Volt duplex
receptacles.
• DO NOT connect 3-phase loads to the generator.
• DO NOT connect 50 Hz loads to the generator.
• DO NOT OVERLOAD GENERATOR. See"Don't
Overload Generator" on page 13.

Stopping the Engine
1.

Unplug all electrical loads from generator panel
receptacles. NEVER start or stop engine with electrical
devices plugged in and turned ON.

Let engine run at no-load for several minutes to
stabilize internal temperatures of engine and generator.

Turn start switch to "Stop"

position.

Charging

a Battery

Your generator hasthe capability of recharging a discharged
12Volt automotive or utility style storage battery. DO
NOT use the unit to charge any 6Vott batteries. DO NOT
use the unit to crank an engine havinga discharged battery.

DANGER

Connect battery charge cable clamp with black handle
to the negative (-) battery terminal (Figure 6).

Start engine. Let engine run while battery recharges.

When battery has charged, shut down engine

NOTE: Use an automotive hydrometer to test battery state
of chargeand condition. Follow the hydrometer
manufacturer'sinstructionscarefully.Generally,a battery is
considered to be at 100%state of chargewhen specificgravity
of its fluid (as measuredby hydrometer) is 1.260or higher.

Battery

Charger

Use battery float charger jack to keep the starting battery
charged and ready for use. Battery charging should be done
in a dry location,such as insidea garage.
1.

Plug charger into unit's "Battery Float Charger" jack,
which is located next to starter switch (Figure 7). Ptug
battery charger into a 120Volt AC wall receptacle.

DO NOT allow any open flame,spark, heat, or lit cigarette
during and for several minutes after charging a battery.
Wear protective goggles,rubber apron, and rubber gloves.

To recharge 12Volt batteries, proceed as follows:
I. Check fluid level in atl battery cells. If necessary,add
ONLY distilled water to cover separators in battery
cells. DO NOT use tap water.
2.

If battery is equipped with vent caps,make sure they
are installedand are tight.

If necessary,clean battery terminals.

Connect battery charge cable connector plug to panel
receptacle identifiedby the words "12-VOLTS D.C".

Unplug charger from unit and wall outlet when
generator is being started and while in operation.

Keep this charger plugged in when generator is not in
use to prolong battery life.The charger hasa built in
float equalizer and wilt not overcharge the battery,
even when plugged in for an extended period of time.

Connect battery charge cable clamp with red handle
to the positive (+) battery terminal (Figure 6).

CORD SET

Under certain weather conditions (temperatures below
40°F [4°C] and a high clew point), your generator may
experience icing of the carburetor and/or the crankcase
breather system.

The generator is equipped with a 25' generator adapter cord
set designedfor a 240Volt, 30 Amp grounded neutral circuit
(Figure9).The generator adapter cord set provides a
convenient supply of emergencypower into your dwelling so
that your generator can be operated safelyoutside.

Build a structure that wilt enclose three sides and top of
generator:
I.

Make sure entire muffler-side of generator is exposed.
Note that your generator may appear different from
that shown in Figure 8.

The maximum load on each outlet is 20 Amps.The
maximum total load on both yellow wire outlets or both
black wire outlets is 30 Amps.

Ensure a minimum of two feet clearance between open
side of box and nearest object.

Face exposed end away from wind and elements.

Enclosure should hold enough heat created by
generator to prevent problems.

Use each receptacle to operate 120Volt AC, single-phase,
60 Hz electrical loadsrequiring up to 2,400 watts (2.4 kW)
at 20Amps of current. Use cord sets that are rated for
125Volt AC loads at 20 Amps (or greater).

CAUTION

120/240 Volt AC, 30 Amp,
NEVER attempt to power a device requiring more
amperage than generator or receptacle can supply.

Use a N EMA LI4-30 plug with this receptacle. Connect a
4-wire cord set rated for 250 Volt AC loads at 30 Amps (or
greater) (Figure 12).Youcan use the same 4-wire cord if
you plan to run a 120Volt load.

This receptacle allows you to recharge a 12Volt
automotive or utility style storage battery with the battery
charge cables provided (Figure 10).

This receptacle can not recharge 6Volt batteries and can
not be used to crank an engine havinga discharged battery.
See the section "Charging a Battery" (page 10) before
attempting to recharge a battery.

This receptacle powers 120/240Volt AC, 60 Hz, single
phase loads requiring up to 7,200 watts of power (7.2 kW)
at 30 Amps for 120Volts or 240Volts.The outlet is
protected by a rocker switch circuit breaker.

Section 4: Operation

DON'T OVERLOAD

You must make sure your generator cansupply enough
rated (running) and surge (starting) watts for the items you
will power at the same time. Follow these simple steps:
I. Select the itemsyou wilt power at the same time.

Total the rated (running) watts of these items.Thisis
the amount of power your generator must produce to
keep your items running. See Figure 13.
Estimate how many surge (starting) watts you wilt
need. Surge wattage is the short burst of power
needed to start electric motor-driven tools or
appliances such as a circular saw or refrigerator.
Becausenot all motors start at the same time, total
surge watts can be estimated by adding only the
item(s) with the highest additional surge watts to the
total rated watts from step 2.

With nothing connected to the generator, start the
engine as described in this manual.
Plug in and turn on the first load, preferably the largest
load you have.
Permit the generator output to stabilize (engine runs
smoothly and attached device operates properly.

To prolong the life of your generator and attached devices,
it is important to take care when adding electrical loads to
your generator.There should be nothing connected to the
generator outlets before starting it's engine.The correct
and safe way to managegenerator power is to sequentially
add loads as follows:
I.

Plug in and turn on the next load.

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each additional load.
NEVER add more loads than the generator capacity.Take
special care to consider surge loads in generator capacity,
as described above.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE
RECOMMENDATIONS

After oil hasdrained, reinstall the oil drain plug.

Remove the oil drain tray from under the oil drain plug
and clean up any spilled oil.

The Owner/Operator is responsible for making sure that
all periodic maintenance tasks are completed on a timely
basis;that all discrepancies are corrected; and that the unit
is kept clean and properly stored. NEVER operate a
damaged or defective generator.

Changing Oil Filter
I. Placethe half moon notch in the oil drain tray under
the oil filter (Figure 15).

NOTE: If equipped with inflatabletires, keep the air
pressure at the value marked on the tire or within 15 and
40 psi.

location for periodic maintenance.

Generator

Maintenance

Data Tag

Generator maintenance consists of keeping the unit clean
and dry. Operate and store the unit in a clean dry
environment where it witt not be exposed to excessive
dust, dirt, moisture or any corrosive vapors. Cooling air
slots in the generator must not become clogged with snow,
leaves or any other foreign material.
NOTE: DO NOT usea garden hose to clean generator.
Water can enter engine fuel system and cause problems. In
addition, if water enters generator through cooling air slots,
some of the water wilt be retained in voids and cracks of
the rotor and stator winding insulation.Waterand dirt
buildup on the generator internalwindings will eventually
decrease the insulationresistance of these windings.

Battery

Maintenance

Other than float charging, as described in "How to Use the
Battery Charger", no maintenance is required for the
battery. Keep the battery and terminals clean and dry.
IMPORTANT: Battery charging should be performed in a
dry location, such as insidea garage.

Generator

Cleaning

• Use a damp cloth to wipe exterior surfaces clean.

Data tag informationis very important if you need hetp
from our Customer Service Department or an authorized
service
dealer.
The data tag (Figure 16) is located either on the base
plate of the generator. For future reference, please copy
the model, revision, and serial number of the generator in
the space below.

• To prevent gum from forming in fuel system or on
essential carburetor parts, add fuel stabilizer into fuel
tank and fill with fresh fuel. Run the unit for several
minutes to circulate the additive through the carburetor.
The unit and fuel can then be stored for up to
24 months. Fuel stabilizer can be purchased locally.
• DO NOT store fuel from one season to another unless
it has been treated as described above.

Arranque el motor. Deje que el motor funcione mientras la
baterta se recarga.

Apague el motor cuando la baterta se hayacargado.

NOTA: Use un hidr6metro para autom6viles para probar el
estado de carga y condici6n de la baterta. Siga cuidadosamente las
instruccionesdel fabricante del hidr6metro. Por Io general, se
considera que una baterta est_ en un estado de carga del
100%cuando la gravedad espectfica de su Ifquido (medido por el
hidr6metro) es de 1.260 o mayor.

Cargador

Si el equipo dispone de 61,utilice el enchufe hembra del cargador
de flotaci6n (carga lenta y continua) de la baterta para mantener la
baterta de arranque cargada y preparada para el uso. La carga de
la bateria se debe realizar en un lugar seco, como el interior de

NO permita ninguna llama abierta, chispa, calor, o encienda un
cigarrillo durante y por ratios rninutos despu6s de haber recargado la

Conecte cargador al enchufe hembra "Battery Float Charger"
(Cargador de flotaci6n de la baterla) de la unidad,que se
encuentra en el interruptor de arranque (Figura 23). Enchufe el
cargador de la baterfa a una toma de pared de 120V CA.

Para recargar baterias de 12Voltios, Ileve a cabo los
siguientes procedimientos:
I.

Reviseel nivel del liquido en todas lasceldas de la bateria. Si
es necesario, ahadaagua destilada UNICAMENTE hasta
cubrir los separadores de las celdas de la bateria. NO use
agua de grifo.

Si la baterfa est_ equipada con tapas de desfogue, aseg_rese
de que est_n instaladasy apretadas.

Limpie los terminales de la bateHa si es necesario.

Conecte el enchufe conector del cable de carga de la bateria
al tomacorrientes del panel identificadocon las palabras
"12-VOLTS D.C." output.
Conecte el sujetador del cable de carga de la bateria que
tiene la maniia roja al terminal positivo (+) de la bateria
(Figura 22).

Desconecte el cargador de la unidad y del enchufe de la pared
durante el arranque del generador y mientras est6 funcionando.

Mantenga el cargador enchufado cuando el generador no se
est6 utilizando, para prolongar la vida de la bateria. El
cargador incorpora un ecualizador de flotaci6n que impide la
sobrecarga de la baterta, inclusoaunque est6 enchufado
durante un largo periodo de tiempo.

del adaptador del generador provee un suministro conveniente de
energia para cualquier emergencia en su propiedad, de tal manera
que su generador pueda ser operado seguramente en el exterior.

Este tomacorriente le permite recargar una bateria de
almacenamiento tipo servicio o automotriz de 12Voltios
utilizando los cables suministrados para cargar baterfas

Esta toma no puede recargar baterias de 6 voltios ni utilizarse
para arrancar un motor cuya baterfa est_ descargada.Vealas
seccione "Carga de la Bateria" (p_gina 34) antes de intentar
recargar la bateria.

La carga m_xima en cada tomacorriente es de 20 Amperios. La
carga m_xima total tanto en el tomacorriente de cable amarillo
como el tomacorriente de cable negro, es de 30 Amperios.

energia, al mismo tiempo. Siga estos pasos:
I. Seleccione los aparatos que recibir_n la energia, al mismo
tiempo.
2. Totalice los ratios calificados (cuando est_ funcionando) de
estos aparatos. Esta es la cantidad de energia que su
generador debe producir para mantener eso aparatos

Calcule la cantidad de ratios de carga (al encender) que
usted necesitar_. El vataie de carga es la cantidad minima de
electricidad, necesaria para encender herramientas o

tomacorrientes del generador antes de que su motor sea

El mantenimiento del generador consiste en conservar la unidad
limpia y seca.Opere y almacene la unidad en un ambiente limpio y
seco donde no ser_ expuesta a[ polvo, suciedad,humedad o
vapores corrosives. Las ranuras del aire de enfriamiento del
generador no deben estar tapadas con nieve,hojas, o cualquier
otro material extrahos. Revisefrecuentemente la limpieza del

El generador deber_ ser encendido al menos una vez cada siete
dfas y deber_ dejarlo funcionar al menos durante 30 minutos. Si
no puede hacer esto y debe almacenar la unidad por mgs de
30 dfas,siga las siguientes instruccionespara preparar su unidad
para almacenamiento.
