It will automaticallytrigger an alarm call on your communityalarm system if it detects that you havefallen. You can also use it to manually raisean alarm call.Wearing the fall detector• Clip the fall detector to your belt orclothing in the upright position shown inthe drawing.It needs to be in the upright position toreduce the possibility of false activation.98       Upright positionIncorrect position
All the reassurance you need                                                                                                              D66070xx Issue A Page 3 of 10Automatic fall detection•  Green light and two "beeps" indicates thatthe fall detector has been activated.• The fall detector will then monitor forbetween 6 and 15 seconds to verify ifthere could have been a fall. The greenlight will flash while it does this.•  If the detector has decided that there isa fall, then a red light and four "beeps"indicates that the fall detector is aboutto trigger an alarm call (because it hasdetected an impact and has not beenupright for between 6 and 15 seconds).•  If the detector has decided that it wasactivated by error then the greenflashing light will stop after between 6 to15 Seconds and the unit will revert tonormal again.•  Due to the complex dynamics of falling, allfalls may not be detected. In this unlikelyevent the manual button can still be usedto call for help.
All the reassurance you need                                                                                                              D66070xx Issue A Page 4 of 10Manual operation•  Press the button on the fall detector toraise a manual alarm call.• The fall detector will "beep" and a redlight indicates the fall detector istriggering an alarm call.•  If the red light flashes on and off, thefall detector is still triggering an alarmcall, but is also indicating to you that thebattery needs to be replaced.
All the reassurance you need                                                                                                              D66070xx Issue A Page 5 of 10• Remember, the fall detector will onlydetect you falling if you are wearing it.• The fall detector must be worn at orabove the waist, where it will detect themaximum number of falls.• When removing the fall detector, handlecarefully to avoid false calls, place it on aneven surface in the upright position andpreferably in the stand provided.• If the fall detector does wake up andbeep when you know you have not fallen,you can prevent it raising an alarm byensuring that it is returned to an uprightposition.• It is not recommended that you wear thefall detector whilst in bed, as normalmovement in bed will cause the falldetector to trigger.
All the reassurance you need                                                                                                              D66070xx Issue A Page 6 of 10Battery ReplacementFrom time to time the battery will needreplacing, you will know this becausesomebody from your monitoring service (ifyou have one) may inform you, or you maysee the red light flashing rather than stayingon continuously when a manual alarm call ismade.•  The unit automatically tests the batteryseveral times within each 24 hour period.It is able to automatically generate analarm call when low battery is detected.•  If it is necessary for you to change thebattery, the fall detector uses a 6 voltDuracell PX28L battery.•  To access the battery, remove the batterycover screw and then the battery cover bysliding it in the direction of the arrow.•  After a year the battery should bereplaced. Contact your provider for areplacement. In many cases your providerwill change the battery for you. On theback of this user guide is a handy table to

When the battery isfirst placed in the unit an automatic testcall will be generated (no lights will showand no buzzer will sound).•  Replace the sliding cover and the screw.Test the fall detector by making a manualcall. Inform the operator that you aremaking a battery test call.•  If the device fails to make a test call thencheck the orientation of the battery.  If thisis correct then contact your supplier.Do not dispose of the old battery in the bin, pleasereturn it to Tunstall (c/o Service Centre) at theaddress shown overleaf.Li1. First removethe screw.2. All the reassurance you need                                                                                                              D66070xx Issue A Page 8 of 10Care of the fall detector• Avoid getting the fall detector wet (if itdoes then dry it quickly and make amanual test call to confirm it is workingcorrectly).•  If required, the fall detector may becleaned periodically with a damp cloth andmild detergent.•  It is recommended that you test the falldetector once a month:•  Make a manual test call.• Tap the fall detector when it is lyingdown. After 5 Seconds the fall detectorshould beep and the green light start toflash.
