turesbuiltintoyoursystem,asthismanualdoesnotcoverallfeatures.
1.1 Fire Detection
Thissystemcanmonitorfiredetectiondevices,suchassmokedetectors,andprovideawarningifa
fireconditionisdetected.Goodfiredetectiondependsonhavinganadequatenumberofdetectors
placedinappropriatelocations.ThisequipmentmustbeinstalledinaccordancewithNFPA72
(N.F.P.A.,BatterymarchPark,QuinceyMA02269).CarefullyreviewtheFamilyEscapePlanning
guidelinesinthismanual.

Thissystemcanmonitorcarbonmonoxidedetectorsandprovideawarningifcarbonmonoxideis

bonmonoxidedetector.

Testyoursystemweeklytoensurethatyoursystemfunctionsasintended.RefertotheTestingyour

1.4 Monitoring
Thissystemcantransmitalarms,troublesandemergencyinformation.Ifyouinitiateanalarmby
mistake,immediatelycallthecentralstationtopreventanunnecessaryresponse.
Note:
lYourinstallermustenablethemonitoringfunctionbeforeitisfunctional.
lConsultwithyourinstallertodetermineifyoursystemisconfiguredwithacommunicator
delay.Acommunicatordelaypreventsareporttothecentralstationifthecontrolpanelis
unsetwithin30-45secondsafteranintrusionalarmistriggered.Notethatfire-typealarms
arenormallyreportedwithoutadelay.

Withnormaluse,thesystemrequiresminimummaintenance.Notethefollowingpoints:
lDonotwashthesecurityequipmentwithawetcloth.Lightdustingwithaslightly
moistenedclothremovesnormalaccumulationsofdust.
lReplacethestandbybatteryevery3-5years.
WARNING!Donotattempttoreplacethebatteryoropentheenclosure,asthereisariskofelec-
tricshockorfire.
Forothersystemdevicessuchassmokedetectors,passiveinfrared,ultrasonicormicrowavemotion
detectors,orglassbreakdetectors,consultthemanufacturersliteraturefortestingandmain-
tenanceinstructions.

Yoursecuritysystemcomprisesanintegratedalarmcontrol/panelandvarioussensorsanddetectors.
Thepanelismountedbythemainentry/exitlocation.Thesystemisself-contained;electronicsand
standbybatteryarehousedwithintheunit.
Note:Ensurethatonlytheinstalleroraserviceprofessionalhasaccesstothesystem.
Thesecuritysystemhasseveralzonesofareaprotection.Eachofthesezonescommunicatestoone
ormorewirelesssensors,suchasmotiondetectors,glassbreakdetectors,doorcontacts,etc.A
sensorinalarmisindicatedbymessagesontheWS900mobilephoneuserapplication.
AdditionalfeaturesincludeAutomaticInhibit(SwingerShutdown)foralarm,TamperandTrouble
signalsafterthreeoccurrencesinagivensetperiod,andaprogrammableKeypadLockoutoption.
ForSIACP-01classifiedinstallations,theswingershutdownfeatureisprogrammedsuchthatone
ortwotripsshutsdownthezone.Thezoneisrestoredafteramanualresetbyenteringtheaccess
codeatthetimeofdisarmingthealarmsystem,oritisresetautomaticallyafter48hourswithno
tripsonanyzones.
2.1 Integrated Keypad
TheWS900systemincludesacapacitivetouchintegratedkeypadwith16keys:numbers0thru9,*,
#,Fire,Auxiliary,Panic(FAP),andshift(uparrow).
Innormaloperation,thekeypadremainsdimwhennotinuse.Whenauserisincloseproximity,the
numberkeysilluminate.
Note:TheFAPkeysdonotilluminateunlesstheshiftkeyistapped.SeetheEmergencyKeyssec-
tionformoreinformation.
Note:Thekeypadcanonlybeusedforarming,disarming,andthelocalFAP.Thesamefunctions
areavailablewhenswitchingbetweenpartitions.

andpropertyinsurance.Yoursecuritysystemmustbeinstalledandservicedbyqualifiedsecurity
professionals.Theseprofessionalscaninstructyouonthelevelofprotectionthathasbeenprovided

3.1 Stay Arming
StayArmingarmstheperimeterofthepremiseswhilepermittingmovementinside.
ToarmthesysteminStaymode,dothefollowingsteps:
1. EnsureallprotecteddoorsandwindowsaresecureorbypassedandthattheReady
indicatorison.
2. Enteravalidusercodeanddonotleavethepremises.Thesystemwillautomatically
ignorebypassedzones.Exitdelaybegins.
3. Whenexitdelayisactive,theArmed andReadyindicatorsturnonandthekeypadis
silent.
Whentheexitdelayhasexpired,thesystemisarmedandindicatedbythefollowingconditions:
lTheReadyindicatorturnsoff.
lTheArmedindicatorstayson.
Note:ForSIACP-01listedpanels,theStayArmingexitdelaywillbetwiceaslongastheAway
Armingexitdelay.
IfyoursystemisinstalledinaccordancewithSIACP-01StandardforFalseAlarmReduction,the
securitysystemarmsintheStayArmedmodeiftheexitdelaytimeexpiresandthereisnoexit.
3.2 Silent Exit Delay
IfthesystemisarmedinStaymodeorusingtheNo-Entryarmingmethod,thekeypadbuzzeris
silencedandtheexittimeisdoubledforthatexitperiodonly.(SIACP-01only.)
3.3 Away Arming
AwayArmingarmstheentiresystem,includingtheperimeterandinteriordevices.
ToarmthesysteminAwaymode,dothefollowingsteps:
1. EnsureallprotecteddoorsandwindowsaresecureorbypassedandthattheReady
indicatorison.
2. Enteravalidusercodeandexitthepremisesthroughadoorprogrammedasentry/exit
type.Exitdelaybegins.
3. Whenexitdelayisactive,theArmed andReadyindicatorsturnonandthekeypad
beepsoncepersecond.Dependingonyoursystemconfiguration,youhave____secondsto
exitthepremises.Yourinstallercanprogramthistime.
4. Thekeypadbuzzeremitsadistinctpulsatingrateduringthelast10secondsoftheexit
delaytoindicatethatthetimeisexpiring.

3.4 Quick Exit
Ifthesystemisarmedandyoumustexit,usetheQuickExitfunctiontoavoiddisarmingandrearm-
ingthesystem.Usingthisfunctiongivesyou2minutestoexitthepremises.Whenthedoorisclosed
afterexiting,theremainingexittimeiscancelled.
3.5 Arming Errors and Exit Faults
Yoursecuritysystemaudiblynotifiesyouofanyerrorswhenyouareattemptingtoarmthesystem
orexitthepremises.
3.5.1 Arming Error
Anerrortone(longbeep)soundsifthesystemisunabletoarm.Armingerrorsoccurunderthefol-
lowingconditions:
lThesystemisnotreadytoarm,i.e.sensorsareopen
lTheenteredusercodeisincorrect.
lApresenttroublecondition.
Ensureallsensorsaresecureandthesystemisreadytoarm,thentryagain.
3.5.2 Audible Exit Fault
Toreducefalsealarms,theAudibleExitFaultnotifiesyouofanimproperexitwhenarmingthesys-
tem.Iftheentry/exitdoorisnotsecurelyclosedduringtheprogrammedexitdelay,thesystemwill
soundthealarmtoindicateanimproperexit.
Note:Yourinstallermustenablethisfeature.
Tocorrectandexitfault,dothefollowingsteps:
1. Re-enterthepremises.
2. Enteryouraccesscodetodisarmthesystembeforetheentrydelaytimerexpires
3. Ensureallsensorsaresecureandthesystemisreadytoarm.
4. RepeattheAwayarmingprocedure.
3.6 Alarm Cancel Window
Thereisaperiodoftimeinwhichyoucancancelthealarmtransmission.Whentheprogrammed
alarmtransmissiondelayexpires,cancellinganalarmsendsamessagetothecentralmonitoringsta-
tion.Whenthecancellationmessageissuccessfullytransmitted,thesystembeepssixtimes.

3.7 Bypass Zones
Usethezonebypassingfeaturewhenyouneedaccesstoaprotectedareawhilethesystemis
armed,orwhenazoneistemporarilyoutofservice,butyouneedtoarmthesystem.Bypassed
zonesarenotabletosoundanalarm.Asaresult,bypassingzonesreducesthelevelofsecurity.If
youarebypassingazonebecauseitisnotworking,callaservicetechnicianimmediatelytoresolve
theproblemanrestoreyoursystemtoproperworkingorder.
Ensurethatnozonesareunintentionallybypassedwhenarmingyoursystem.Zonescannotbe
bypassedoncethesystemisarmed.Bypassedzones,exceptfor24-hourzones,areautomatically
cancelledeachtimethesystemisdisarmedandmustbebypassedagainbeforethenextarming.

lTwo-hourzonescanonlybeunbypassedmanually.

3.8 Bypass Group
Abypassgroupisaselectionofzonesprogrammedintothesystem.Ifyoubypassagroupofzones

zoneindividually.Notethatyoucanonlyprogramonebypassgroupatatime.

tion.
Tousetheemergencykeys,dothefollowingsteps:
1. Taptheshiftkey onthekeypad.Theemergencykeysilluminate.

2. TouchtheFire,Auxiliary,orPanickeyfor2seconds,asneeded.Thesystembeepsto
indicatethatthealarminputhasbeenacceptedandsenttothemonitoringstation.
3. Toreturntothenumberkeypadwithoutusingtheemergencykeys,tapthe[#]key.
Note:Dependingonyoursystemconfiguration,yourinstallercandisableanyoftheemergency
keys.
6.1 Two-Way Audio Operation
Thisfeatureisusedtoverifythenatureofanalarmandtodeterminethetypeofassistancethe
occupantneeds.Whenthecentralmonitoringstationreceivesanalarm,theyinitiateatwo-way
audiosession.
Note:Onlythecentralmonitoringstationcaninitiateatwo-wayaudiosessionwhentheyreceive
analarm.;theusercannotinitiateasession.
6.2 Intrusion (Burglary) Alarm Continuous Siren

Ifyouareunsureofthesourceofthealarm,proceedwithcaution!
Ifthealarmwasaccidental,enteryouraccesscodetosilencethealarm.Ifthealarmsystemisdis-
armedwithintheprogrammedtransmitterdelaytime,noalarmtransmissionissenttothecentral

monitoringstation.Checkwithyourinstallertoseeifthisoptionhasbeenenabledonyoursystem
andforthetransmitterdelaytime.
Followingthetransmitterdelaytime,youhave5minutestoenteryourusercodetocancelanalarm
thathasbeenpreviouslytransmitted.Acancelsignalissenttothecentralmonitoringstationandthe
systemindicatesthatthecancelsignalwastransmitted.Callyourcentralmonitoringstationtoavoid
adispatch.

Experimentswithtypicalfiresinhomesindicatethatdetectablequantitiesofsmokeprecededetect-
ablelevelsofheatinmostcases.Forthesereasons,smokealarmsshouldbeinstalledoutsideof
eachsleepingareaandoneachstoreyofthehome.
Thefollowinginformationisforgeneralguidanceonlyanditisrecommendedthatlocalfirecodes
andregulationsbeconsultedwhenlocatingandinstallingsmokealarms.
Itisrecommendedthatadditionalsmokealarmsbeyondthoserequiredforminimumprotectionbe
installed.Additionalareasthatshouldbeprotectedinclude:thebasement;bedrooms,especially

PowerFailure
Controlunits,intrusiondetectors,smokedetectorsandmanyothersecurity
devicesrequireanadequatepowersupplyforproperoperation.Ifadeviceoper-
atesfrombatteries,itispossibleforthebatteriestofail.Evenifthebatteries
havenotfailed,theymustbecharged,ingoodconditionandinstalledcorrectly.
IfadeviceoperatesonlybyACpower,anyinterruption,howeverbrief,will
renderthatdeviceinoperativewhileitdoesnothavepower.Powerinterruptions
ofanylengthareoftenaccompaniedbyvoltagefluctuationswhichmaydamage
electronicequipmentsuchasasecuritysystem.Afterapowerinterruptionhas
occurred,immediatelyconductacompletesystemtesttoensurethatthesys-
temoperatesasintended.
FailureofReplaceableBatteries
Thissystem’swirelesstransmittershavebeendesignedtoprovideseveral
yearsofbatterylifeundernormalconditions.Theexpectedbatterylifeisafunc-
tionofthedeviceenvironment,usageandtype.Ambientconditionssuchas
highhumidity,highorlowtemperatures,orlargetemperaturefluctuationsmay
reducetheexpectedbatterylife.Whileeachtransmittingdevicehasalowbat-
terymonitorwhichidentifieswhenthebatteriesneedtobereplaced,thismon-
itormayfailtooperateasexpected.Regulartestingandmaintenancewillkeep
thesystemingoodoperatingcondition.
CompromiseofRadioFrequency(Wireless)
Devices
Signalsmaynotreachthereceiverunderallcircumstanceswhichcouldinclude
metalobjectsplacedonorneartheradiopathordeliberatejammingorother
inadvertentradiosignalinterference.
SystemUsers
Ausermaynotbeabletooperateapanicoremergencyswitchpossiblydueto
permanentortemporaryphysicaldisability,inabilitytoreachthedevicein
time,orunfamiliaritywiththecorrectoperation.Itisimportantthatallsystem
usersbetrainedinthecorrectoperationofthealarmsystemandthattheyknow
howtorespondwhenthesystemindicatesanalarm.
SmokeDetectors
Smokedetectorsthatareapartofthissystemmaynotproperlyalertoccupants
ofafireforanumberofreasons,someofwhichfollow.Thesmokedetectors
mayhavebeenimproperlyinstalledorpositioned.Smokemaynotbeableto
reachthesmokedetectors,suchaswhenthefireisinachimney,wallsor
roofs,orontheothersideofcloseddoors.Smokedetectorsmaynotdetect
smokefromfiresonanotherleveloftheresidenceorbuilding.

MotionDetectors
Motiondetectorscanonlydetectmotionwithinthedesignatedareasasshown
intheirrespectiveinstallationinstructions.Theycannotdiscriminatebetween
intrudersandintendedoccupants.Motiondetectorsdonotprovidevolumetric
areaprotection.Theyhavemultiplebeamsofdetectionandmotioncanonlybe
detectedinunobstructedareascoveredbythesebeams.Theycannotdetect
motionwhichoccursbehindwalls,ceilings,floor,closeddoors,glasspar-
titions,glassdoorsorwindows.Anytypeoftamperingwhetherintentionalor
unintentionalsuchasmasking,painting,orsprayingofanymaterialonthe
lenses,mirrors,windowsoranyotherpartofthedetectionsystemwillimpair
itsproperoperation.
Passiveinfraredmotiondetectorsoperatebysensingchangesintemperature.
Howevertheireffectivenesscanbereducedwhentheambienttemperaturerises
nearorabovebodytemperatureorifthereareintentionalorunintentional
sourcesofheatinornearthedetectionarea.Someoftheseheatsourcescould
beheaters,radiators,stoves,barbeques,fireplaces,sunlight,steamvents,light-
ingandsoon.
WarningDevices
Warningdevicessuchassirens,bells,horns,orstrobesmaynotwarnpeopleor
wakensomeonesleepingifthereisaninterveningwallordoor.Ifwarning
devicesarelocatedonadifferentleveloftheresidenceorpremise,thenitis
lesslikelythattheoccupantswillbealertedorawakened.Audiblewarning
devicesmaybeinterferedwithbyothernoisesourcessuchasstereos,radios,
televisions,airconditionersorotherappliances,orpassingtraffic.Audible
warningdevices,howeverloud,maynotbeheardbyahearing-impairedperson.
TelephoneLines
Iftelephonelinesareusedtotransmitalarms,theymaybeoutofserviceor
busyforcertainperiodsoftime.Alsoanintrudermaycutthetelephonelineor
defeatitsoperationbymoresophisticatedmeanswhichmaybedifficultto
detect.
InsufficientTime
Theremaybecircumstanceswhenthesystemwilloperateasintended,yetthe
occupantswillnotbeprotectedfromtheemergencyduetotheirinabilityto
respondtothewarningsinatimelymanner.Ifthesystemismonitored,the
responsemaynotoccurintimetoprotecttheoccupantsortheirbelongings.
ComponentFailure
Althougheveryefforthasbeenmadetomakethissystemasreliableaspos-
sible,thesystemmayfailtofunctionasintendedduetothefailureofacom-
ponent.
InadequateTesting
Mostproblemsthatwouldpreventanalarmsystemfromoperatingasintended
canbefoundbyregulartestingandmaintenance.Thecompletesystemshould
betestedweeklyandimmediatelyafterabreak-in,anattemptedbreak-in,a
fire,astorm,anearthquake,anaccident,oranykindofconstructionactivity
insideoroutsidethepremises.Thetestingshouldincludeallsensingdevices,
keypads,consoles,alarmindicatingdevicesandanyotheroperationaldevices
thatarepartofthesystem.
SecurityandInsurance
Regardlessofitscapabilities,analarmsystemisnotasubstituteforproperty
orlifeinsurance.Analarmsystemalsoisnotasubstituteforpropertyowners,
