These limits aredesigned to provide reasonableprotection against harmfulinterference in a residentialinstallation. This equipmentgenerates, uses and can radiateradio frequency energy and, ifnot installed and used inaccordance with the instructions,may cause harmful interferenceto radio communications.However, there is no guaranteethat interference will not occurin a particular installation. This equipment complies withPart 68 of the FCC rules. Thisunit bears a label which containsthe FCC registration numberringer equivalence number(REN). If requested, this infor-mation must be provided to thetelephone company.2. This equipment used the fol-lowing standard jack types fornetwork connection: RJ11.3. This equipment contains anFCC compliant modular jack. Itis designed to be connected to thetelephone network or premiseswiring using compatible modularplugs and cabling which complywith the requirements of FCCPart 68 rules.4. The Ringer Equivalence Num-ber, or REN, is used to determinethe number of devices whichmay be connected to the tele-phone line. An excessive RENmay cause the equipment to notring in response to an incomingcall. In most areas, the sum of theRENs of all equipment on a lineshould not exceed five (5.0).5. In the unlikely event that thisequipment causes harm to thetelephonenetwork, the telephonecompany can temporarily dis-connect your service. The tele-phone company will try to warnyou in advance of any such dis-connection, but if advance noticeisn’t practical, it may disconnectthe service first and notify you assoon as possible afterwards. Inthe event such a disconnection isdeemed necessary, you will beadvised of your right to file acomplaint with the FCC.6. From time to time, the tele-phone company may makechanges in its facilities, equip-ment, or operations which couldaffect the operation of this equip-ment. The equip-ment must also be installed usingan acceptable method of connec-tion. The customer should beaware that compliance with theabove conditions may not pre-vent degradation of service insome situations.Repairs to certified equipmentshould not be coordinated by arepresentative designated by thesupplier. Any repairs or alter-ations made by the user to thisequipment, or equipment mal-functions, may give the telecom-munications company cause torequest the user to disconnect theequipment.Users should ensure for theirown protection that the electricalground connections of the powerutility, telephone lines andinternal metallic water pipe sys-tem, if present, are connected to-gether. This pre-caution may beparticularly important in rural ar-eas.CAUTION: Users should not at-tempt to make such connectionsthemselves, but should contactthe appropriate electric inspec-tion authority, or electrician, asappropriate.NOTICE: The Ringer Equiva-lence Number (REN) assigned toeach terminal device provides anindication of the maximum num-berofterminalsallowedtobeconnected to a telephone inter-face. The termination on an inter-face may consist of anycombination of devices subjectonly to the requirement that thesum of the Ringer EquivalenceNumbers of all the devices doesnot exceed 5.Safety InformationBe sure to observe standard safe-ty procedures when installing theHome Area Network Server.Electrical Shock HazardTo avoid electrical shock:1. When installing the server, becareful to avoid any contact withpower cables and conduits thatsupply electrical power to thebuilding.2. Do not remove thecoveron theHome Area Network Server un-less you are a qualified servicetechnician. Use only UL ap-proved power and extensioncords and connect them only toproperly grounded (3-hole) walloutlets.Note statements throughout thisdocument emphasize items ofspecial importance.Warning statements throughoutthis document emphasize safetyhazards that may be associatedwith installing the Home AreaNetwork Server, which if ignoredmay cause serious injury or deathto the installation technician.Caution statements in this docu-ment emphasize where specialcare must be observed during in-stallation to eliminate the possi-bility of damage to equipment.
