SAFETY INFORMATION RF Energy Exposure Awareness and Control Information and Operational Instructions for Occupational Use NOTICE: This radio is intended for use in occupational/controlled conditions where users have full knowledge of their exposure and can exercise control over their exposure to meet the occupational limits in FCC and International standards. This radio device is NOT authorized for general population consumer use. This two-way radio uses electromagnetic energy in the radio frequency (RF) spectrum to provide communications between two or more users over a distance. It applies radio waves or radio frequency (RF) energy to transmit and receive voice calls or data. RF energy is one form of electromagnetic energy. Other forms include, but are not limited to, sunlight and x-rays. RF energy, however, should not be confused with these other forms of electromagnetic energy, which when used improperly, can cause biological damage. Very high levels of x-rays, for example, can damage tissues and genetic material. Experts in science, engineering, medicine, health, and industry work with organizations to develop standards for safe exposure to RF energy. These standards provide recommended levels of RF exposure for both workers and the general public. These recommended RF exposure levels include substantial margins of protection. All Unication two-way radios are designed, manufactured, and tested to ensure they meet government-established RF exposure levels. Additionally, manufacturers also recommend specific operating instructions to users of two-way radios. These instructions are essential as they inform users about RF energy exposure and provide simple procedures on how to control it. U3 USER GUIDE 3 Federal Communication Commission (FCC) Regulations The FCC rules require manufacturers to comply with the FCC RF energy exposure limits for portable two-way radios before they can be marketed in the U.S. When two-way radios are used as a consequence of employment, the FCC requires users to be fully aware of and able to control their exposure to meet occupational requirements. Exposure awareness can be facilitated by the use of a product label directing users to specific user awareness information. Your Unication two-way radio has a RF Exposure Product Label. Also, your Unication user manual and separate safety booklet includes information and operating instructions required to control your RF exposure and to satisfy compliance requirements. Compliance with RF Exposure Standards Your Unication two-way radio is designed and tested to comply with a number of national and International standards and guidelines (listed below) for human exposure to radio frequency electromagnetic energy. This radio complies with the IEEE (FCC) and ICNIRP exposure limits for occupational/controlled RF exposure environments at operating duty factors of up to 50% talk-50% listen and is authorized by the FCC for occupational use only. In terms of measuring RF energy for compliance with these exposure guidelines, your radio generates measurable RF energy only while it is transmitting (during talking), not when it is receiving (listening) or in standby mode. NOTE: The approved batteries, supplied with this radio, are rated for a 5-5-90 duty factor (5% talk - 5% listen - 90% standby) even though this radio complies with FCC occupational exposure limits and may operate at duty factors of up to 50% talk. Limits of Human Exposure to Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields in the Frequency Range from 3 kHz to 300 GHz, 1999 • Australian Communications Authority Radio communications (Electromagnetic Radiation – Human Exposure) Standard, 2003 • ANATEL ANNEX to Resolution No. 303 of July 2, 2002 "Regulation of limitation of exposure to electrical, magnetic and electromagnetic fields in the radio frequency range between 9 KHz and 300 GHz" and "Attachment to resolution # 303 from July 2, 2002" RF Exposure Compliance and Control Guidelines and Operating Instructions To control your exposure and ensure compliance with the occupational/controlled environment exposure limits, always adhere to the following procedures. Guidelines: • Do not remove the RF Exposure Label from the device. • User awareness instructions should accompany device when transferred to other users. • Do not use this device if the operational requirements described herein are not met.
U3 USER GUIDE 4 Operating Instructions • Transmit no more than the rated duty factor of 50% of the time. To transmit (talk), push the Push-To-Talk (PTT) button. To receive calls, release the PTT button. Transmitting 50% of the time, or less, is important because this radio generates measurable RF energy exposure only when transmitting (in terms of measuring for standards compliance). • Hold the radio in a vertical position in front of the face with the microphone (and other parts of the radio including the antenna) at least one inch (2.5 centimeters) away from the nose or lips. Antenna should be kept away from the eye. Keeping the radio at a proper distance is important since RF exposures decrease with increasing distance from the antenna. • When worn on the body, always place the radio in the Unication-approved belt clip for this product. Using approved bodyworn accessories is important because the use of non-Unication-approved accessories may cause exposure levels, which exceed the FCC occupational/controlled environment RF exposure limits. • If you are not using a body-worn accessory and are not using the radio in the intended-use position in front of the face (one inch away), ensure the antenna and the radio are kept at least 0.75 inches (1.9 centimeters) from the body when transmitting. Keeping the radio at a proper distance is important because RF exposures decrease with increasing distance from the antenna. Approved Accessories • Use only Unication-approved supplied or replacement antennas, batteries, and accessories. Use of Non-Unication approved antennas, batteries, and accessories may exceed the FCC (IEEE) and ICNIRP RF exposure guidelines. • Here is a list of Unication-approved accessories: Belt Clip, External Speaker/Mic with wired earpiece, clone cable, USB cable, the 2400mAHr Lithium Polymer battery, and the cradle charger. Electromagnetic Interference/Compatibility NOTE: Nearly every electronic device is susceptible to electromagnetic interference (EMI) if inadequately shielded, designed, or otherwise configured for electromagnetic compatibility. Facilities To avoid electromagnetic interference and/or compatibility conflicts, turn off your radio in any facility where posted notices instruct you to do so. Hospitals or health care facilities may be using equipment that is sensitive to external RF energy. Aircraft When instructed to do so, turn off your radio when on board an aircraft. Any use of a radio must be in accordance with applicable regulations per airline crew instructions. Medical Devices Pacemakers
U3 USER GUIDE 5 The Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) recommends that a minimum separation of 6 inches (15 centimeters) be maintained between a handheld wireless radio and a pacemaker. These recommendations are consistent with those of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Persons with pacemakers should: • ALWAYS keep the radio more than 6 inches (15 centimeters) from their pacemaker when the radio is turned ON. • Not carry the radio in the breast pocket. • Use the ear opposite the pacemaker to minimize the potential for interference. • Turn the radio OFF immediately if there is any reason to suspect that interference is taking place. Hearing Aids Some digital wireless radios may interfere with some hearing aids. In the event of such interference, you may want to consult your hearing aid manufacturer to discuss alternatives. Other Medical Devices If any other personal medical devices are used, please consult the manufacturer of your device to determine if it is adequately shielded from RF energy. Your physician may be able to assist you in obtaining this information. Use of Communication Devices While Driving Always check the laws and regulations on the use of radios in the areas where you drive. • Give full attention to driving and to the road. • Use hands-free operation, if available. • Pull off the road and park before making or answering a call, if driving conditions or regulations so require.
U3 USER GUIDE 6 Operational Warnings Operational Cautions For Vehicle With Air Bags: Refer to vehicle manufacturer's manual prior to installation of electronic equipment to avoid interference with air bag wiring. Do not place a portable radio in the area over an air bag or in the air bag deployment area. Air bags inflate with great force. If a portable radio is placed in the air bag deployment area and the air bag inflates, the radio may be propelled with great force and cause serious injury to occupants of the vehicle. Potentially Explosive Atmospheres (Explosive atmospheres refer to hazard classified locations that may contain hazardous gas, vapors, or dusts.) Turn off your radio prior to entering any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere unless it is a portable radio type especially qualified for use in such areas as Intrinsically Safe (for example, Factory Mutual, CSA, UL, or CENELEC). Do not remove, install, or charge batteries in such areas. Sparks in a potentially explosive atmosphere can cause an explosion or fire resulting in bodily injury or even death. The areas with potentially explosive atmospheres referred to above include fueling areas such as below decks on boats, fuel or chemical transfer or storage facilities, and areas where the air contains chemicals or particles such as grain, dust or metal powders. Areas with potentially explosive atmospheres are often, but not always, posted. Blasting Caps and Blasting Areas To avoid possible interference with blasting operations, turn off your radio when you are near electrical blasting caps, in a blasting area, or in areas posted: "Turn off two-way radio." Obey all signs and instructions. Antennas • Do not use any portable radio that has a damaged antenna. If a damaged antenna comes into contact with your skin, a minor burn can result. • Do not hold onto the antenna when the radio is powered on. Always keep the antenna at least 0.75 inches (1.9 cm) away from the body and 1 inch (2.54 cm) from the face when transmitting to ensure FCC RF exposure compliance requirements are not exceeded. Batteries All batteries can cause property damage and/or bodily injury, such as burns, if a conductive material such as jewelry, keys, or beaded chains touches exposed terminals. The conductive material may complete an electrical circuit (short circuit) and become quite hot. Exercise care in handling any charged battery, particularly when placing it inside a pocket, purse, or other container with metal objects.
U3 USER GUIDE 7 Intrinsically Safe Radio Information The Intrinsically safe approval unit refers to a product that has been approved as intrinsically safe by an approval agency (for example FM Approvals, CSA, UL, or Cenelec) and certifies that a particular product meets the Agency's applicable intrinsic safety standards for specific types of hazardous classified locations. A portable radio that has been approved for intrinsic safety will have Approval label attached to the radio to identify the unit as being approved for specified hazardous atmospheres. This label specifies the hazardous Class/Division/Group along with the part number of the battery that must be used. The Intrinsically Safe Approval Label will be located on the portable radio unit. Operational Cautions for Intrinsic Safe Equipment Warnings for Radios Approved as Intrinsically Safe Radios must ship from the Unication manufacturing facility with the hazardous atmosphere capability and the intrinsic safety approval labeling (FM, UL, CSA, CENELEC). Radios will not be upgraded to this capability and labeled once they have been shipped to the field. A modification changes the unit’s hardware from its original design configuration. Modifications can only be made by the original product manufacturer. • Do not operate radio communications equipment in a hazardous atmosphere unless it is a type especially qualified (for example, FM, UL, CSA, or CENELEC approved). An explosion or fire may result. • Do not operate a radio unit that has been approved as intrinsically safe product in a hazardous atmosphere if it has been physically damaged (for example, cracked housing). An explosion or fire may result. • Do not replace or charge batteries in a hazardous atmosphere. Contact sparking may occur while installing or removing batteries and cause an explosion or fire. • Do not replace or change accessories in a hazardous atmosphere. Contact sparking may occur while installing or removing accessories and cause an explosion or fire. • Turn the radio off before removing or installing a battery or accessory. • Do not disassemble an intrinsically safe product in any way that exposes the internal circuits of the unit. • Failure to use an intrinsically safe approved battery or Approved accessories specifically approved for the radio unit may result in the dangerously unsafe condition of an unapproved radio combination being used in a hazardous location. • Unauthorized or incorrect modification of the intrinsically safe approved Product will negate the approval rating of the product. • Incorrect repair or relabeling of any intrinsically safe Agency approved radio could adversely affect the Approval rating of the unit. • Use of a radio that is not intrinsically safe in a hazardous atmosphere could result in serious injury or death.
U3 USER GUIDE 8 Repair A repair constitutes something done internally to the unit that would bring it back to its original condition. Items not considered as repairs are those in which an action is performed on a unit which does not require the outer casing of the unit to be opened in a manner that exposes the internal electrical circuits of the unit. Do Not Substitute Options or Accessories The Unication communications equipment certified as intrinsically safe by the approving agency, (FM, UL, CSA, CENELEC) is tested as a complete system which consists of the listed agency Approved portable, Approved battery, and Approved accessories or options, or both. This Approved portable and battery combination must be strictly observed. There must be no substitution of items, even if the substitute has been previously Approved with a different Unication communications equipment unit. Approved configurations are listed by the Approving Agency (FM, UL, CSA, CENELEC). The Intrinsically Safe Approval Label affixed to radio refers to the intrinsically safe classification of that radio product, and the approved batteries that can be used with that system. The manual PN referenced on the Intrinsically Safe Approval Label identifies the approved Accessories and or options that can be used with that portable radio unit. Using a non Unication intrinsically safe battery and or accessory with the Unication approved radio unit will void the intrinsically safe approval of that radio unit. REPAIRS FOR UNICATION PRODUCTS WITH INTRINSICALLY SAFE APPROVAL ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE USER. Repairs to an Unication FM approved radio product should only be done at a location that has been FM audited under the FM 3605 repairs and service standard. Contact Unication for assistance regarding repairs and service of Unication intrinsically safe equipment.

U3 USER GUIDE 10 1. PREPARATION 1.1 CHARGING THE BATTERY 1.1.1 Before Attaching Please make sure your U3 radio is turned off before attaching the battery pack. Before using, please charge the battery pack with U3 cradle charger for a minimum of 16 hours. This ensures maximum performance. Warning: 1. Do not charge the battery pack in a hazardous environment: it may cause an explosion. 2. To avoid damaging the radio, NEVER release or attach the battery pack if the radio is wet or covered with dust. 1.2 INSTALLING THE ANTENNA 1.2.1 Attaching The Antenna 1. Please make sure the radio is turned off while attaching the antenna. 2. As the picture shown, hold the base of the antenna and turn the antenna clockwise into the connector on top of the radio. 3. Keep turning the antenna clockwise until secured. Note: Never transmit without the antenna, this may damage the radio. 1.2.2 Detaching The Antenna 1. Please also make sure the radio is turned off while detaching the antenna. 2. As the picture shown, turn the antenna counter-clockwise to remove it from the radio. Attach Detach
U3 USER GUIDE 11 1.3 INSTALLING AND REMOVING THE ACCESSORY CONNECTOR COVER The accessory connector cover is located on the antenna side of the U3 portable radio. The accessory connector is used to connect U3 accessories to the radio. 1. Insert the accessory port cover loop over the previously installed antenna and slide it down to the bottom of the antenna. 2. Place the cover directly over the accessory connector and turn the thumbscrew to fasten the cover to the radio. 3. Removal of the accessory port cover is accomplished by turning the thumbscrew counterclockwise, then lifting the cover up, and finally sliding the cover loop upwards beyond the top end of the U3 antenna. 1.4 INSTALLING THE BATTERY PACK 1.4.1 Attaching The Battery Pack 1. Please make sure the radio is turned off. 2. Insert the top of battery pack into the radio first. 3. Then push the bottom of the battery pack towards the radio and press down until you hear a click sound. 1.4.2 Removing The Battery Pack 1. To remove the battery pack, please turn the radio off first. 2. Press the release button on the bottom of the radio. 3. Once the battery pack is released, you can pull away the battery pack from the radio.

Press the belt clip downward as the picture shown until a click sound is heard. 1.5.2 Removing The Belt Clip 1. Please remove the battery pack from the radio while removing the belt clip. 2. U3 USER GUIDE 15 Side Buttons Description Digital Voice Record (DVR) Button Press this button to record voice communications. Push-to-Talk (PTT) Button The PTT button on the left side of the radio is used to transmit to other radios. When you want to speak, press and hold the PTT button to activate the microphone and transmit the voice. Release the PTT button to listen. Function Status Button Press this button to enter Status indication ON/OFF Button. You can have a quick overview and settings on some common functions. Keypad lock Button Press this button to lock / unlock the keypad. Emergency Button Press this button to make an Emergency Alarm. LED INDICATORS No LED Behavior definition 1 Green/Amber two-way function LED 1-1 Flashing green Radio transmitting 1-2 Solid Amber Radio receiving 2.2 TURNING U3 ON AND OFF 2.2.1 Turning On 1. Rotate the power/ volume knob clockwise and a click sound will be heard when the power is on. 2. Once the power is up, a self test program will automatically start. If the test is successful, the display will play greeting message on the screen. 3. After greeting message, the radio will automatically enter Home screen. Turn On Turn Off
U3 USER GUIDE 16 2.2.2 Turning Off 1. To turn off radio, simply rotate the power/ volume knob counterclockwise until a click sound is heard. 2. LED and screen will both be off when U3 is turned off. 2.3 ADJUSTING THE SPEAKER VOLUME 2.3.1 Adjusting Volume 1. Slowly rotate the power/ volume knob clockwise to increase volume. You can rotate power/ volume knob counterclockwise to lower the volume. Note: Turning the knob counterclockwise until a click is heard will turn off the radio. 2.4 SELECTING CHANNELS In 2 way radio operation, users must select a channel for transmitting or receiving voice or data messages. U3 radio provides you up to 256 channels and these channels can be programmed to a user member or a group via U3 Codeplug Programming Software, CPS. 2.4.1 Using The Channel Selector Knob 1. Rotate the channel selector knob clockwise to next channel. 2. Rotate the channel selector knob counter wise to previous channel. 3. When different channel is selected, the channel information will be shown on the screen. 2.5 STANDBY AND MAIN MENU FUNCTION 2.5.1 Standby Function U3 provides you the most common used features on the standby display. It will save you time to start or select the functions. You can use: 1. Left soft Button: To enter Today function. 2. Menu & Enter: To enter Menu. 3. Right soft Button: To enter Contacts function. Increase Volume Decrease Volume Switch to Next Channel Switch to Previous Channel

The U3 radio supports both analog and digital mode, if the current channel is programmed as a digital mode, Uni2TDMA, the home display will indicate this: . On the top line of display is status bar, this bar indicates you the state of radio. Icon Description Indicate the signal strength. Indicate the current time. Indicate you have a unread message. Indicate the Bluetooth function is enabled. Indicate the radio is programmed as digital mode. Indicate the radio is connected with one accessory such as Programming Cable or External Speaker Microphone. Indicate GPS function is activated. Indicate U3’s battery gauge. In this chapter, we will guide you through the common applied functions and settings. 3.1 TODAY After turning on the radio, U3 provides you a Today menu which reminds you any unread message or event. 3.1.1 To Enter Today Function There are two ways to enter Today function. 1. Press left soft button “Today” in standby mode In standby mode, you can press left soft button to enter “Today” function. 2. Enter Today function by main menu a. U3 provides you a short cut menu which is called Status indication ON/OFF to enter such features, you can see current setting for these features and you can quickly change setting if you want. 3.2.1 To Enter Status indication ON/OFF Function There are two ways to enter Status indication ON/OFF function. 1. Press Status indication ON/OFF button. At standby mode, simply press Status indication ON/OFF button on the left side of radio to enter Status indication ON/OFF function. 2. U3 USER GUIDE 22 4. VOICE CALLS The radio can receive a voice call from others. The radio will inform who’s calling on the display if pre-programmed. U3 can provide you to receive All Call, Group Call, and private Call after pre-programmed in the CPS. Here are call type definition. 1. All Call provides you to talk with everybody in one channel. 2. Group call provides you to talk with a group 3. Private call provides you to talk with one individual. 4.1 MAKING CALLS 4.1.1 To Select A Contact To Call Your receiver side will determine the call type. You can select a group or person as your receiver by following: 1. Channel selector knob You can use the channel selector knob to select a contact if pre-programmed. 2. Use Address book from menu Your radio provides address book function, please read the following pages to know how to select a contact from address book. 4.1.2 To Make A Call 1. Make a All Call a. To transmit a call, please press and hold the PTT button on the left side of radio. b. Release PTT button to stop transmitting 2. Make a Group Call or Private Call a. To transmit a call, please press and hold the PTT button on the left side of radio 3. Release PTT button to stop transmitting. And the radio will automatically start a hang timer. 4. While receiving an All Call, every radio on the current channel will be announced, the radio will show the channel alias with the solid Amber LED indication. 2. After the calls, radio will return to standby mode. 3. You can press PTT button to respond to calls. 4.2.2 To Receiving Group Call Or Private Call 1. While receiving a group Call or Private Call, the radio will show the caller’s alias with the solid Amber LED indication. 2. After the calls, the radio will automatically start a hang time timer. 3. During the hang time, you can press PTT button to respond the call. 4.3 VOICE CALL BACKGROUND OPERATION U3 provides you optional functions during voice call, you can turn on these functions in Status indication ON/OFF menu, once the function is enabled, it will automatically work during a voice call, you don’t have to do any additional operation. You have the following optional functions: 4.3.1 Compander (Analog Mode Only): The Compander feature is activated via the CPS PC Utility. The Compander will enhance voice call quality. If the commander is enabled, radio will automatically expand signals while receiving, and compress signals while transmitting.
U3 USER GUIDE 24 5. MESSAGES Besides voice communication, for different tasks on your duty, U3 also supports text messaging using Uni2TDMA. U3 can transmit or receive canned or free text message to meet various communication requirements. 5.1 SENDING A CANNED MESSAGE U3 provides canned messaging. You can use this function to quickly answer to routine feedbacks or to common requests. 5.1.1 To Enter Canned Message Function By Menu 1. In standby mode, press the Menu & Enter button to enter main menu. 2. Use the 4-way Navigator button to move to “Message” function. 3. Press Menu & Enter button to confirm the selection and enter next menu. 4. The highlight bar will stay at “Send canned message”. Please enter Inbox menu, and select a message to open as previous pages noted. 2. On read message menu, if you press Menu & Enter button, you’ll open a menu to select replying options. 3. The operation is the same as to reply a message after receiving a message. 5.5 MANAGING YOUR CONTACTS 5.5.1 To Manage A Message In Inbox Menu 1. In Inbox menu, if you press Menu & Enter button, you’ll open a option function list. 2. You can select: a. Open: To open this message. b. Lock: To lock this message to avoid deleting message unexpectedly. c. Delete: To delete this message forever.

For reducing wrong contacts settings to cause failed communication, you can only edit contact list in CPS. But, you can rename these contacts, and cannot delete this type of contacts. 6.1 VIEWING ADDRESS BOOK There are two ways to enter Address book. 6.1.1 To Enter Address Book Function 1. Enter Address Book from menu a. In standby mode, press Menu & Enter button to enter main menu, use 4-way Navigator button to move highlight bar to “Address book”. b. Please press Menu & Enter button to confirm selection and enter next menu. 2. Press right soft button “Address book” in standby mode a. In standby mode, press right soft button “Address book” to enter Address book. 6.1.2 To View An ID And Alias 1. Each contact list will show name and category (Private/Group/All). 2. The contact list will be organized alphabetically from A to Z, you can use 4-way Navigator button ▲▼ to move highlight bar to choose a contact list type. 3. Use “Enter” key to choose Radio Contacts.

At this time, you can press Menu & Enter button to open the subfunction menu. 3. In this optional menu, you can do the following optional functions to this ID: a. Message:To send message to this ID. b. Call alert:To send a call alert to this ID. c. Press and hold PTT button to call this ID. 6.2.2 To Manage Private ID 1. The operation is similar as managing a All/Group ID, but for private ID, you have more optional functions as following: a. Message:To send message to this ID. b. Call alert:To send a call alert to this ID. c. Radio check: To send a radio check request to this ID. d. Press and hold PTT button to call this ID.

CALL ALERT If you called someone without response, you can leave a call alert to the receiver, which can remind the receiver to call back to you 7.1 SENDING A CALL ALERT 7.1.1 To Start To Send A Call Alert There are two ways to initiate a call alert. 1. Enter Call Alert by Main Menu a. In standby mode, press the Menu & Enter button to enter main menu. b. Use the 4-way Navigator button to move to “Call alert” function. c. Press Menu & Enter button to confirm selection and enter next menu. 2. Select Call Alert option from Address Book 7.1.2 Select A Contact To Send A Call Alert 1. While receiving a call alert, the radio will alert you, you may following options to respond: a. Press and hold PTT button hard on the left side of the radio to talk back to Call Alert sender. b. In Call alert menu, the highlight bar will stay at “Send Call alert”, please Use the 4-way Navigator button ▲▼ to move to “Check Alert Record”. 2. Press Left soft key “Select” to enter next menu. 3. You can use the 4-way Navigator button ▲▼ to switch between sent record and received record. 4. Please press Menu & Enter key to confirm the selection. 5. Sent Call Alert List and Received Call Alert List will be displayed. 7.3.2 Call Alert Record Options In Sent Call Alert Record, you can use press ▲▼ button to move highlight bar to a contact ID to do the following actions: 1. Resend: Resend a call alert to this ID (only in sent record).
U3 USER GUIDE 32 8. EMERGENCY ALARM When you need any help or rescues from task operations, U3 provides Emergency call feature for you. Once the feature is enabled, the radio will keep sending an emergency command in a pre-set channel until receiving the control code. 8.1 SENDING AN EMERGENCY ALARM 8.1.1 How To Operate Emergency Alarm Function U3 provides you one quick way to enable Emergency alarm function by holding down the Emergency Button. 8.2 RECEIVING AN EMERGENCY ALARM You can select some radios to receive Emergency Call, if your radio receives GPS data, the radio will also show the relative position. 8.2.1 To Receive Emergency Alarm Function 1. If your radio receives an Emergency alarm, it will automatically alert you. 2. Press Menu & Enter button to initiate the emergency call and loading GPS data if available.
U3 USER GUIDE 33 9. RADIO POSITIONING (GPS) This enables U3 devices to communicate, track and inform locations to one another. You can read GPS settings in this chapter. 9.1 GPS LOCATION INFORM Your radio provides you “GPS Location Inform” function, which will automatically send GPS location data and other status information (such as: Man down information) to the designated radio or console in pre-set time interval. 9.1.1 To Enable GPS Location Inform GPS Location Inform function can be enable by following two ways: 1. Enable GPS Location inform function from Function Status menu. a. At any display, user can press “Function Status” button at the left side of the radio to enter “Function status”. b. Use the 4-way navigation Button ▲▼ to move highlight bar to “GPS Inform”. c. Use the 4-way navigation Button ▲▼ to enable “GPS Location Inform” function to ON status, if the current channel supports GPS inform, you can press the right soft button “Change” to enable this feature, if there’s no “Change” button to press, please switch to a new channel which supports GPS inform feature. d. Once GPS inform is enabled, then you’ll see icon shown on the status bar. 9.2 GPS LOCATION DISPLAY If GPS Location is enabled from Inform function, your radio will also provide a concentric position diagram for you to check the relative positions of your members. This will help you to check which direction is toward your target. 9.2.1 To Enter GPS Location Display 1. Enter Radio Check by main menu a. In standby mode, press the Menu & Enter button to enter main menu. b. Use the 4-way Navigator button to move to “GPS Location Display”.

Press Menu & Enter button to confirm selection and enter next menu. 9.2.2 To Use GPS Location Display Once entered “GPS Location Display” menu, your radio will try to search available satelite information, the search time will be depend on your location, if the search time is over than 4 minutes and 30 seconds, then you may not be possible to use GPS function at current location, please press Back or Home hard to exit. If GPS location is available, then the radio will keep detecting GPS data at preset time interval, and the position of your radio will be at center of concentric, other radios will show relative position in this concentric diagram. You can use following optional functions: 1. Use the 4-way Navigator button ▲▼ to move the highlight bar to a contact, then the position of selected contact will flash and the spot color will change to red, while white spots means the other unselected members’ relative position. 2. Press left or right soft button “zoom in” or “zoom out” to zoom in or out the diagram. 3. Use 4-way Navigator button ◄►to switch the toolbar, then you can press left soft button “GPS query” to ask selected member’s position, or press right soft button “Full” to expand GPS location to full screen display. Once the radio is at full screen state, you can press right soft button “Normal” to set the radio back to normal screen state. 9.2.3 Check One Member’s Detailed Location If you press Menu & OK button to select a team member, you can check related detailed location. 1. Use the 4-way Navigator button ◄►to switch the toolbar to the following options: a. Radio Check: To send Radio Check command to a selected member. b. Trajectory: To track route of a selected member.

If you press “Trajectory” soft button, you’ll see the member’s route, and you can press “Set” soft button to set the start and end time for the tracking. 3. U3 USER GUIDE 36 10. PERSONAL ASSISTANT U3 provides useful voice recording functions for important communication records in daily operations. 10.1 VOICE MEMO 10.1.1 Recording A New Memo 1. You may enter from menu and select “Voice Memo” . 2. After entering to Voice Memo, press right soft button “New” or simply press DVR button to record a new memo. 3. When it starts recording, the screen will show the recording time bar. 4. You can end the recording by pressing left soft button “Finish” to save the record. 5. If you press Finish key, the screen will show the default filename (usually it is put Memo + recording date + saving order). 6. You could press the 4-way Navigator button◄► to move cursor and use Delete key to delete the default file name. 7. You can also use key pad to rename the file. The Input method is T9. You can press Input Method Key to switch different input options. 10.1.2 Listening A Voice Memo 1. Press Menu & Enter button to go to main menu and select “Voice Memo”. 2. Use the 4-way Navigator button ▲▼ to select a voice memo. 3. Press Menu & Enter button to play the voice memo. 4. Press left soft button “Finish” to end the play.

Use the 4-way Navigator button◄►to switch the toolbar to the following sub-functions: a. Lock b. New (Add a new voice memo) c. Rename d. On/off alarm e. Delete 3. Press “Delete” button to delete the message. 10.1.4 Setting Reminder Alert To A Voice Memo. 1. Press Menu & Enter button go to main menu and select “Voice Memo”. 2. Use the 4-way Navigator button◄► to switch the toolbar to the following state. a. Lock b. New c. Rename d. On/off alarm e. Delete 3. Press “On/Off alarm” button to set the alarm. 4. You can use alphanumeric keypad to set the time and date. 5. Press “Save” button to save the settings or press “Cancel” button to cancel the settings. 10.1.5 Locking And Unlocking A Voice Memo When a voice memo is locked, you will not be able to delete it. You will have to unlock the message for deletion availability. 1. Use the 4-way Navigator button ◄► to switch the toolbar to the following sub-functions: a. Lock b. New c. Rename d. On/off alert e. Delete 2. Press “Lock” button to lock the selected message.

RADIO CHECK If you need to monitor all the communication in the channel or check the environment surrounding around particular radio, you can manually monitor your own or other radio’s current channel, in order to fully understand if someone’s using the current channel or other team members’ status. 11.1 RADIO CHECK When you need to know your team members is inside or out of your signal range, you can use the Radio Check function. Note that if there is no response, your team member’s radio could be turned off, breakdown, or out of range. 11.1.1 To Enter Radio Check 2. Enter Radio Check by main menu d. In standby mode, press the Menu & Enter button to enter main menu. e. Use the 4-way Navigator button to move to “Radio Check”. f. Press Menu & Enter button to confirm selection and enter next menu. g. The highlight bar will stay at “Radio check”., then Press Menu & Enter button to confirm selection. 3. Enter Radio Check from Address Book menu You can also enter “Radio Check” menu from Address book menu, please read the related page of Address Book. 11.1.2 To Using Radio Check 1. The highlight bar will stay at “Send Radio Check” first, you can do the followings: a. Send Radio Check: To send a radio check command to a radio. b. Use 4-way Navigator button to move highlight bar to “Alarm” function. 3. Press Menu & Enter button to confirm selection and enter next menu. 4. You will be able to see two sets of alarms with ON/ OFF status. If alarms have been set, it will show the set time. Press right soft button “Change” to enable the alarm by using 4-way Navigator button ▲▼ to select ON status. 12.1.2 How To Set An Alarm 1. Press the 4-way Navigator button ▲▼ to select ON status. 2. Press Menu & Enter button to set Alarm. 3. The time settings will start with “Hour” first by using key pad in numeric format. 4. Use 4-way Navigator button ◄► to switch between “Hour” and “Minute”. 5. Press left soft button “Next” to go to next step. 6. Press Menu & OK button or wait for three seconds to go back to the Alarm menu. 12.1.3 Response To A Time Alert 1. When the clock is on the set alarm time, it will trigger the alarm and radio will sound alert. 2. If the alarm is not stopped in one minute, or press other buttons other than “Close” button, the alarm alert will temporary close. The alert will trigger again after 10 minutes. 3. If user press “Close” button to disable the alarm, it will not alert within set date.

There are three alarms with RF Hardware problems: a. Lo Alarm: When DSP has LO problem. b. MOD Alarm: When DSP has MOD problem. c. PA Alarm: When PA temperature is high. 12.3.2 RF Violation Alarm Signals (MCU) 1. There are two alarms with RF violation problems: a. Temperature: When radio has temperature problem.  Over-Heated

Low Voltage: When the battery voltage is too low to:  Perform a transmission  Use the radio 12.4 USING BLUETOOTH FUNCTION You can use Unication Bluetooth accessories including ear piece and PTT button with your U3 radios. You need to pair your Bluetooth accessories with your radio before using. 12.4.1 Turning on Bluetooth function 1. Please go to Status indication ON/OFF menu by main menu or function status button to turn on the function. 2. Use 4-way Navigator button ▲▼ to select “Bluetooth.” 3. Press right soft button “Change” to enter next menu. 4. The radio will automatically search available Bluetooth accessories, if this is your first time to use Bluetooth function, it will take more time to enter available Bluetooth devices list. 5. Please press left soft button to connect to a device, or press right soft button “Refresh” to refresh the Bluetooth devices list. 12.4.2 Pairing on Bluetooth device 1. Use 4-way Navigator button ▲▼ to select a device and press left soft button to connect. 2. You’ll need to wait until the radio is connected, once connected, the radio will show a successful prompt shortly. If the radio failed to connect to other devices, please try again or select another

WHAT THIS WARRANTY COVERS AND FOR HOW LONG: Unication warrants the Unication manufactured Communication Products listed below (“Product”) against defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service for a period of time from the date of purchase as scheduled below: U3 Portable Units: One (1) Years Product Accessories: One (1) Year Unication, at its option, will at no charge either repair the Product (with new or reconditioned parts), replace it (with a new or reconditioned Product), or refund the purchase price of the Product during the warranty period provided it is returned in accordance with the terms of this warranty. Replaced parts or boards are warranted for the balance of the original applicable warranty period. All replaced parts of Product shall become the property of Unication. This express limited warranty is extended by Unication to the original end user purchaser only and is not assignable or transferable to any other party. This is the complete warranty for the Product manufactured by Unication. Unication assumes no obligations or liability for additions or modifications to this warranty unless made in writing and signed by an officer of Unication. Unless made in a separate agreement between Unication and the original end user purchaser, Unication does not warrant the installation, maintenance or service of the Product. Unication cannot be responsible in any way for any ancillary equipment not furnished by Unication which is attached to or used in connection with the Product, or for operation of the Product with any ancillary equipment and all such equipment is expressly excluded from this warranty. Because each system which may use the Product is unique, Unication disclaims liability for range, coverage, or operation of the system as a whole under this warranty. II. GENERAL PROVISIONS: This warranty sets forth the full extent of Unication’s responsibilities regarding the Product. Repair, replacement or refund of the purchase price, at Unication’s option, is the exclusive remedy. This warranty is given in lieu of all other express warranties. Implied warranties, including without limitation, implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular

In no event shall Unication be liable for damages in excess of the purchase price of the product, for any loss of use, loss of time, inconvenience, commercial loss, lost profits or savings or other incidental, special or consequential damages arising out of the use or inability to use such product, to the full extent such may be disclaimed by law. III. STATE LAW RIGHTS: Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages or limitation on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation or exclusions may not apply. This warranty gives specific legal rights, and there may be other rights which may vary from state to state. IV. HOW TO GET WARRANTY SERVICE: You must provide proof of purchase (bearing the date of purchase and Product item serial number) in order to receive warranty service and, also, deliver or send the Product item, transportation and insurance prepaid, to an authorized warranty service location. Defects or damage from misuse, accident, water, or neglect. 3. Defects or damage from improper testing, operation, maintenance, installation, alteration, modification, or adjustment. 4. Breakage or damage to antennas unless caused directly by defects in material workmanship. 5. A Product subjected to unauthorized Product modifications, disassemblies or repairs (including, without limitation, the addition to the Product of non- Unication supplied equipment) which adversely affect performance of the Product or interfere with Unication 's normal warranty inspection and testing of the Product to verify any warranty claim. 6. Product which has had the serial number removed or made illegible. 7. Rechargeable batteries if: a. Any of the seals on the battery enclosure of cells are broken or show evidence of tampering. b. The damage or defect is caused by charging or using the battery in equipment or service other than the Product for which it is specified.

A Product which, due to illegal or unauthorized alteration of the software/ firmware in the Product, does not function in accordance with Unication’s published specifications or the FCC type acceptance labeling in effect for the Product at the time the Product was initially distributed from Unication. 10. Scratches or other cosmetic damage to Product surfaces that does not affect the operation of the Product. 11. Normal and customary wear and tear. VI. PATENT AND SOFTWARE PROVISIONS: Unication will defend, at its own expense, any suit brought against the end user purchaser to the extent that it is based on a claim that the Product or parts infringe a United States patent, and Unication will pay those costs and damages finally awarded against the end user purchaser in any such suit which are attributable to any such claim, but such defense and payments are conditioned on the following: 1. That Unication will be notified promptly in writing by such purchaser of any notice of such claim 2. That Unication will have sole control of the defense of such suit and all negotiations for its settlement or compromise. 3. Should the Product or parts become, or in Unication’s opinion be likely to become, the subject of a claim of infringement of a United States patent, that such purchaser will permit Unication, at its option and expense, either to procure for such purchaser the right to continue using the Product or parts or to replace or modify the same so that it becomes non-infringing or to grant such purchaser a credit for the Product or parts as depreciated and accept its return. The depreciation will be an equal amount per year over the lifetime of the Product or parts as established by Unication. Unication will have no liability with respect to any claim of patent infringement which is based upon the combination of the Product or parts furnished hereunder with software, apparatus or devices not furnished by Unication, nor will Unication have any liability for the use of ancillary equipment or software not furnished by Unication which is attached to or used in connection with the Product. The foregoing states the entire liability of Unication with respect to infringement of patents by the Product or any parts thereof. Laws in the United States and other countries preserve for Unication certain exclusive rights for copyrighted Unication software such as the exclusive rights to reproduce in copies and distribute copies of such Unication software. Unication software may be used in only the Product in which the software was originally embodied and such software in such Product may not be replaced, copied, distributed, modified in any way, or used to produce any derivative thereof. No other use including, without limitation, alteration, modification, reproduction, distribution, or reverse
