Page 9 UT919ZH(MHS350)ENG.QX 12/19/03 5:26 PM Page 10 Charging the Battery Pack Your marine radio is powered by a specially designed Ni-MH battery pack. • Before operating the MHS350, charge the Ni-MH battery pack for 4 hours without interruption with the Adapter. 1 Plug one end of the AC adapter into the wall outlet and the other end into the Adapter jack on the side of the Charging Cradle. 2 Make sure your radio is OFF, and place the radio in the front of the Charging Cradle. You can also charge another battery at the same time. Place it in the back of the Charging Cradle. 3 Charge the battery for 4 hours. • The charger won’t overcharge the battery pack. After 4 hours without interruption, the LED on the Charging Cradle turn off and charging is completed. • Be sure to replace the rubber cap after charging in order to secure the waterproof seal. • The radio will not charge the battery while on and receiving incoming voice traffic. • When you mount the Charging Cradle on your boat, use the DC adapter instead. • The jack is for charging only. If the battery level is low, the radio needs to charge before use. 10 UT919ZH(MHS350)ENG.QX 12/19/03 5:26 PM Page 11 Operation • See “Controls and Indicators” (page 2) for button, knob, and key positions. • When you turn On your MHS350, it is automatically tuned to channel 16, the United States Coast Guard frequency for distress, safety, and calling. • When you press any button (except PTT), a short tone sounds. Read this information before using the radio In August 1996 the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States with its action in Report and Order FCC 96-326 adopted an updated safety standard for human exposure to radio frequency electromagnetic energy emitted by FCC regulated transmitters. Those guidelines are consistent with the safety standard previously set by both U.S. and international standards bodies. The design of the radio complies with the FCC guidelines and these international standards. • Never allow children to operate the radio without adult supervision and the knowledge of the following guidelines. WARNING! It is up to the user to properly operate this radio transmitter to insure safe operation. Please adhere to the following: Use only the supplied or an approved antenna. Unauthorized antennas, modifications, or attachments could impair call quality, damage the radio, or result in violation of FCC regulations. Do not use the radio with a damaged antenna. If a damaged antenna comes into contact with the skin, a minor burn may result. Please contact your local dealer for a replacement antenna. Body-worn Operation This device was tested for typical body-worn operations using the supplied belt-clip, which typically provides a space of 1 inch from the body. To maintain compliance with FCC RF exposure requirements, body-worn operations are restricted to the supplied belt-clip. For hand-held operation, the radio should be held 1 inch from the user's face. The use of accessories that do not satisfy these requirements may not comply with FCC RF exposure requirements and should be avoided. For more information about RF exposure, please visit the FCC website at www.fcc.gov. • When using an external speaker microphone, USE ONLY THE UNIDEN MODEL HHVTA07 (black) or HHVTAW07 (white). Use of any other accessory for this purpose may invalidate your authority to operate this device. 32 UT919ZH(MHS350)ENG.QX 12/19/03 5:26 PM Page 33 Three-Year Limited Warranty Important!
