Take care when using your phone if:•you have a pacemaker fitted. Always check with themanufacturers recommendations. In  general, alwayskeep your phone at least 20cm (6in) away from thepacemaker, never keep the phone in a breast pocket.Always use the ear opposite to where the pacemakeris fitted,•you use a hearing aid, interference may be caused.Consult with the manufacturer for possible alterna-tives,•you use other personal medical devices. Always playsafe and check with the manufacturer or your Doctor ifin doubt,•you have an airbag fitted to your vehicle. Neverobstruct the airbag with any object, including yourmobile phone.Emergency callsThis phone allows you to communicate using radio waves.Because of this, connection cannot be guaranteed at alltimes. Therefore you should not solely rely on yourphone for essential communications such as medicalemergencies.If you use your phone infrequently it is important toensure that your phone is checked regularly, includingbattery charge.To make an emergency call1Turn the phone on using the red key,2Ensure you have suitable network cover, somenetworks require a SIM card to be fitted prior toemergency calls,3Dial the appropriate emergency number,4Press the green key and wait for someone to answer.Alternatively, use the Emergency option within thePhonebook menu:1From standby, c to enter the menu, e to selectPhonebook, c to enter,2e to select Emergency call, c to place the call.Remember to state your name, location and nature ofthe emergency to the operator.Welcome 3

Installing and charging the batteryTo install the battery:1Insert the base of thebattery pack into theslot in the back ofthe phone,2Press thetop ofthebatteryto thephone sothat it locksinto place.To remove the battery:•Press and hold the locking latch at the top of thebattery. While the latch is depressed, pullthe top of the battery awayfrom thephone.5Getting started and everyday use
Note: The first initial charge of the battery should be anovernight charge or at least a minimum of six hours.To disconnect the charger lead:1Remove the charger body from the mains powersocket,2Grip the charger plug and BEND IT UP OR DOWN sothat it snaps away from the base of thephone.Important: Never pull directlyon the cable, hold onlythe connector.To charge the battery:Note: Your phone can be switched on or off whilecharging.1Plug the lead from the charger to the bottom of thephone – the connector will fit only one way (align thesmall notch on the connector with the front face ofthe phone),2 Plug the charger body into a suitable mainspower socket. Charging should startwithin two minutes unless thebattery is fully discharged inwhich case it may take upto 20 minutes tobegin charging.The batterysymbol in the topleft corner of thedisplay will alternate with the chargingsymbol -  .The battery symbol indicates the level of charge:Empty:  Half full:  Full: Once the battery is fully charged, the battery symbol willshow full charge and the charging indicator will cease.Important:Never pulldirectly on thecharger lead to removefrom the base of the phone.Important: Never expose your phone orbattery to high temperatures, i.e. direct sunlight in a car.Getting started and everyday use6
Switching on and offTo switch your phone on and off:ON Press and release (.OFF Press and hold (.When your phone switches on for the very first time, youmay be prompted for a PIN code:•To enter a valid PIN code – see Entering a PIN codeEntering a PIN codeYour SIM card may be protected by a PIN (PersonalIdentification Number), if so you will be prompted to enterit when you first switch on. The documentation from yourservice provider should indicate the current PIN code.To enter your PIN:1Enter the PIN code using the numeric keys – thedisplay will show ‘#’ symbols instead of the numbersto avoid your code being seen by onlookers,2c or press ) to confirm the number. After a shortdelay, your phone will join the network.If you enter the wrong PIN code:•a to clear any error. If you enter the wrong codethree times in succession, your SIM card becomesdisabled. Contact your service provider to obtain a PUK(Personal Unblocking Key) which is a separate, longercode - refer to the Phone security features section.Setting the time and dateIf your phone has not previously been switched on (orhas been unused for a long period), you will need to setthe time and date.To set the time and date:1From standby, c to enter the menu,2e to select Settings, c to enter,3e to select Time and Date, c to enter,4e to select Date, c to enter,•The current setting is displayed - to alter thesettings within each option:•enter the numbers using the keypad, or•b to increment a value,•d to decrement a value,•c to accept the value and move to the nextsetting,•a to move back to the previous setting.5When you have completed the Date option, accessTime to set that in the same manner.7Getting started and everyday use

Use the Hot Keys menu option to assign your chosenphone functions to the keys 2 to 9.To set Hot keys:Shortcut for keys that have not yet been assigned: Pressand hold the required key (2 to 9) until the displayshows ‘Not programmed’. Answering a second callYour phone allows you to accept a second incoming call,providing that you have a subscription to Call Waiting withyour network. For more details see Answering a callearlier in this mini-section or Conference calls in theSpecial features section.When a second call occurs:•Press ) to place the first call on hold and answerthe new call, or•Press ( to end the first call, and then answer, rejector forward the new call.Making international callsNote: Your network may restrict international calls for newsubscribers.1Press and hold 0 until Country is displayed,2e to select the required country name and c toapply (or just enter the code if you know it),•Expert tip: instead of scrolling through all thecountry names, just press the key (repeatedly, ifnecessary) that represents the first letter of therequired country, to show that part of the list.(eg.Press 444 to find countries which start with “i”)3Enter the area code followed by the phone number,and press ) to call.Call ForwardingThis service* allows you to set multiple call forwardingarrangements using the following factors:•various phone conditions, e.g. when busy,•different call types, e.g. voice, data, fax,•separate, or combined forwarding destinations.Note: Your Voice mail setting counts as a forwardingoption.To activate Call Forwarding:1From standby, c to enter the menu,2e to select Call Forward, and c to enter,3e to choose one of the options, and c to enter.•Unconditional – Forwards all calls of the type(s) tobe selected in step 5 below - a   symbol isdisplayed in the standby screen when this option isset,•All unanswered – Forwards all calls that fall into anyof the three categories below,•If busy – Forwards when phone is in another call,•If no reply – Forwards any calls that you do notanswer.13Getting started and everyday use

When you create messages on your phone, they are sentto a centralized service centre using a special phonenumber supplied by your network. The textmessages supported by your phone fall into twocategories:•Information sent from one mobile phone user toanother,or•Information sent by the network to mobile phoneusers within a certain area. This is called cell broadcastand can include local information with relevance toyour current vicinity. There may be networksubscription charges for some services.Messages20
