When registered to the VSP600 SIP DECT Base Station, and the Range Extender’s coverage area overlaps the coverage area of the Base Station, the Base Station can hand off calls to the Range Extender as the user moves from one coverage area to another. When connected to the Range Extender, the cordless handset operates in exactly the same way as it does when connected to the Base Station. The hand off from the Base Station to the Range Extender should be seamless, even during an active call.Parts Checklist• Range Extender• Power adapter• Quick Start Guide
6Getting StartedLocationTo get the best operating conditions for the Range Extender, it is important to place it correctly. Here are a few tips for placing the Range Extender:• Place the Range Extender as high as possible, but at least 6 feet (2 meters) off the ground.• Make sure you have good reception from the Base Station.• Make sure the location is close to a corresponding electrical outlet. Never install electrical cords across a trafc area; they can create a trip hazard or become damaged and create a re or electrical hazard.• Allow at least 36 feet (11 meters) between Range Extenders (if you are installing the Range Extenders across multiple oors, remember to allow 36 feet [11 meters] vertically as well).• Avoid sources of electrical interference, such as hi- systems, ofce equipment or microwave ovens.• Avoid heat sources and direct sunlight.• Avoid things that can interfere with radio signals, such as metal doors, thick walls, niches and cupboards.Map the Base Station CoverageTo nd the best location for the Range Extender, you need to determine the Base Station coverage area.1. Stand near the Base Station and make a call.2. Walk away from the Base Station with the handset.3. Make a note of where the signal becomes weaker.NOTE: The optimum location for the Range Extender is as far from the Base Station as possible while still maintaining a “good” signal, or just inside the location where the signal became weaker.Test the Location1. Register the Range Extender to the Base Station. See “Registration” on page 9. 2. Hold the Range Extender in the place where you plan to mount it. The LED should remain on and steady, indicating that the Range Extender has a good signal from the Base Station.
7ConnectInstall your Range ExtenderPlug the AC adapter into the Range Extender in its nal location, and then plug the other end into the electrical outlet wall socket and switch the power on.Or if you want to mount the Range Extender on a wall:1. Plug the AC adapter into the Range Extender, thread the cable through the locking slot (ensuring the cable does not protrude and prevent the unit from tting ush against the wall) and then bundle the power cable with a twist tie.2. Test the signal strength in the nal location as described in “Getting Started” on page 6, and then install two wall-mount screws in the wall.3. Put the wall mount slot on the back of the Range Extender over the screw heads and slide the Range Extender down into place.NOTE: Be sure the wall material can hold the weight of the Range Extender. Never install a Range Extender in damaged or decaying wall material.Back view Electrical outlet wall socket Locking slot Wall mount slot AC adapterBottom view
