Introduction
The Range Extender lets you extend the coverage area of your telephone system in
all directions, including up and down.
When registered to the VSP600 SIP DECT Base Station, and the Range Extender’s
coverage area overlaps the coverage area of the Base Station, the Base Station can
hand off calls to the Range Extender as the user moves from one coverage area to
another.
When connected to the Range Extender, the cordless handset operates in exactly the
same way as it does when connected to the Base Station. The hand off from the
Base Station to the Range Extender should be seamless, even during an active call.

Getting Started
Location
To get the best operating conditions for the Range Extender, it is important to place it
correctly. Here are a few tips for placing the Range Extender:
• Place the Range Extender as high as possible, but at least 6 feet (2 meters) off the
ground.
• Make sure you have good reception from the Base Station.
• Make sure the location is close to a corresponding electrical outlet.
Never install electrical cords across a traffic area; they can create a trip hazard or
become damaged and create a fire or electrical hazard.
• Allow at least 36 feet (11 meters) between Range Extenders (if you are installing
the Range Extenders across multiple floors, remember to allow 36 feet [11 meters]
vertically as well).
• Avoid sources of electrical interference, such as hi-fi systems, office equipment or
microwave ovens.
• Avoid heat sources and direct sunlight.
• Avoid things that can interfere with radio signals, such as metal doors, thick walls,
niches and cupboards.
Map the Base Station Coverage
To find the best location for the Range Extender, you need to determine the Base Station
coverage area.
1. Stand near the Base Station and make a call.
2. Walk away from the Base Station with the handset.
3. Make a note of where the signal becomes weaker.
NOTE: The optimum location for the Range Extender is as far from the Base Station as
possible while still maintaining a “good” signal, or just inside the location where the signal
became weaker.
Test the Location
1. Register the Range Extender to the Base Station.
See “Registration” on page 9.
2. Hold the Range Extender in the place where you plan to mount it. The LED should
remain on and steady, indicating that the Range Extender has a good signal from the
Base Station.
Connect
Install your Range Extender
Plug the AC adapter into the Range Extender in its final location, and then plug the other
end into the electrical outlet wall socket and switch the power on.
Or if you want to mount the Range Extender on a wall:

Back view
1. Plug the AC adapter into the Range Extender, thread the cable through the locking
slot (ensuring the cable does not protrude and prevent the unit from fitting flush
against the wall) and then bundle the power cable with a twist tie.
2. Test the signal strength in the final location as described in “Getting Started” on
page 6, and then install two wall-mount screws in the wall.
3. Put the wall mount slot on the back of the Range Extender over the screw heads
and slide the Range Extender down into place.
NOTE: Be sure the wall material can hold the weight of the Range Extender.
Never install a Range Extender in damaged or decaying wall material.

Register the Range Extender to the SIP DECT Base Station:
Follow the instructions below to register the VSP605 Range Extender to your
VTech ErisTerminal SIP DECT Base Station.
Make sure the Range Extender is not connected to AC power before registering.
You can register up to five Range Extenders per Base Station.

Connect a Range Extender to another Range Extender in Cascade Mode:
You can connect up to two Range Extenders in series between a VTech ErisTerminal
SIP DECT Base Station and Handset. This connection is called Cascade Mode.
Follow the instructions below to connect two VSP605 Range Extenders in
Cascade Mode.
1. Register all of your Range Extenders to the Base Station (as described in
“Register the Range Extender to the SIP DECT Base Station”, above).
2. Take one of the Range Extenders to a location where it is far enough away
from the Base Station, but close to a Range Extender to get a Cascade Mode
connection.
3. Use the AC adapter to connect the Range Extender to an electrical socket.
Troubleshooting
Problem
The LED on the Range
Extender won’t stop
flashing.
Calls will not hand over to
the Range Extender.
I used to be able to connect
to the Base Station, but now
I cannot.
The audio quality is
very poor or noisy when
receiving a call.
Calls lost or audio becomes
poor when moving from
the Base Station reception
range to the Range
Extender reception range.
Solutions
• Move the Range Extender closer to the Base Station.
• Check for interference from electronic devices.
• Make sure the Range Extender is not too close to
metal objects or thick walls.
• Make sure the Range Extender is within the Base
Station’s good signal range.
• Make sure there are at least 11 meters between
Range Extenders.
• Make sure the Range Extender is powered on.
• Move the Range Extender closer to the Base Station
and register it again.
The signal connection is very poor. Try to find another
location where the signal to the Base Station is better.
You may be moving out of the Base Station or Range
Extender reception range, or are in a blind spot. Move
towards the Base Station or Range Extender.
