over the receiver. These buttons work the same
way as the matching remote control buttons.

THE RECEIVER BACK PANEL

The back panel of the receiver provides the
connections that you use to wire the receiver to
all the other electronic devtces that you use it
also provides the receiver power cord and
telephone jack, Depending on the wiring setup
that you use, you may not use some of these
connections, but they are prOVided to suoport any
desrred setup. The DVD Player doesnot require
any special Wiring. SeeChaprer 5, Reference. or
the Installation Inyrrrrclians for more
information.

REMOTE" on the back side) must be pointed
directly at the receiver, with no objects blocking
the line ofsightr You can use such a remote only
within 40 Feet of the receiver.
INSTALLING BATTERIES IN THE REMOTE
The remote control is sh tpped
with AAA batteries, packaged
separately. When you replace
old batteries, you should
replace all of the batteries.
Use batteries of tho some
grade, For example, alkaline
or carbon zinc, and do not mix
batteries of different grades,
Alkaline batteries provide
longer battery life
Press down on the slot in the battery cover (on
the back of the remote control) and slide the
coverofi‘.
Insert the new batteries, making sure to match
the plus (“+") ends with the plus markings on the
battery cue.
Replace the battery cover by sliding the cover
back up into Place.

temporarily turn off the sound. Press it again to
restore the sound, The Mute button works only if
you have programmed the remote. See

In any mode, press the plus (+) side of the
Volume button to increase the sound volume.
Press the minus (-) side ofmeVolume button to
reduce the sound volume. This button Works only
if you have programmed the remote. See

In SAT mode, press the Guide button to open the
Program Guide, When the Program Guide is
open, press the Guide button to switch among
Favorltes Lists.

Other UHF signals may block signals sent from a
UHF remote control to the receiver. To prevent
such interference, you can install a lo dB
attenuator. This will reduce the sensinviry of the
receiver to other.UHF signals but also
substantially reduce the operating range of the
rem'ote control,
Remove the UHF antenna from rheuHF Remote
Antenna connection on the receiver back panel.
Attach a IO 65 attenuator to the UHF Remote
Antenna connection.
Attach the UHF antenna to the attenuator.

Note: it" you Want to program the AUX mode,
program It before you program the TV mode. It"
you already have programmed lheTV mode, do
the folloWing: (a) write down the TV code, (5)
reprogram the TV mode using code 222, (c)
program the AUX mode, and (d) reprogram the
w mode using the code that you wrote down.
Tum ON the device you want the remote (0
control. You must turn ON the device using its
buttons or the remote control that came with it.
Find the brand name of the device in the device
code tables stming on page 5-13.1fthe brand is
not listed, see the Doing the Ramon Conn-bl
Device Code Scan procedure on page 3-8.
Press and hold the mode button for the device
that you want the remote to control, for about
three seconds. When all the other mode button
backlights come on, release the mode button.
Use file number pad buttons to enter the code for
me device. if you are programming in the AUX
mode, you must enter a 4-digit code. The first
digit is the code for the device, as follows: 0 is
for a second TV. I is for a second VCR, and 2 is
for an amplifier of cable TV box.

TWO OR MORE RECEIVERS
Each output on the LNBF can support a single
receiver. You cannot connect two receivers to the
same output (for example, by using a line
splitter), because the two receivers would
interfere with each other during channel
selection. This is a charlctertstic of satellite
television in general. and is not a limitation of
this system.
If you want to connect two or more receivers to
the same snteiiite dish and be able to watch
different channels through each receiver, you
must use I dual—output LNBF. This at lows yuu Iv

The back panel RF or VHF connections (also
called the modutator connections) provide good
picture and good mono (nun-stereo) sound
outlay. Be aware that even ifyou the a TV and
other devices thnl support stereo sound, this type
ofconnectinn will provide only non—stereo
sound.
If you connect a cable TV box or a broadcast TV
antenna to the receiver, use the back panelTv
Antennalcablo In (RF or VHF connectlcnt for
the lcul programming signal input. Use the back
panel Phone (RCA) Audio/Video Output
connections for the output if possible, as using
the TV Set Out (RF nr VHF Connection) will
not provide the best quality video on broadcast or
cable channels,
This is the most simple cabling scheme. and
many people prefer it because of its ease of
installation and use. The RF or VHF ccnnecticns
require that you keep the TV tuned to either
channel 3 pr 4 to view satellite channels, You
also need to set the luck panel Channel 3/4
Switch to match this channel.
Note: if you connect a VCR to the receiver. you
must nlsc set both the VCR channel switch and
viewing channel to this nme channeit All
receivers come preset to channel 3.

The back panel phono (RCA) audiolvideo
connections provide better picture on ‘ty and
stereo sound. The phone (RCA) audio/video
cable is available as a single cable with three
connectors on either end, or as three separate
cables. The connectors are color-coded
according to the type ol'signal they carry. the
yellow connector carries the video signal, the
white connector carries the left audio signal, and
the red connector carries the right audio signal. ll”
the TV only has one input connection for this
type ot'uudio, connect it to the right (R) phono
(RCA) audio connection on the receiver.
If you use the phone (RCA) audio/video
connections to connect the receiver with other
devices, then depending on the type of device
that you connect to the receiver you may need to
use the menus displayed by each device to
change the input from local broadcast TV to
satellite TV. See the user manuals that came with
die other devices for more information.

For UHF remote controls only, the receiver uses
the UHF antenna to receive communes from the
remote. Connect the UHF antenna here, and
place it so it dos net touch anything.
Note: Place the antenna vertically for maximum
remote runge, if necessary for space you can
place the antenna horizontally, but his will
reduce the range.

If you use a mutti-dish switch that is connected
to the receiver back panelAcclnory Jack, or if
you use an [R extender (also called an “IR mouse
tail”), you mutt set up the receiver properly.
To do this, display the Main Menu, and select the
system Setup option. Next. select the
Accnlory Jack option. Finally. select the"!
Extender or switchbox oplipn, and then select
the Save option.
