Escort Key User Instructions Part Number 803A0901 What is the Escort Key? The Escort Key temporarily disarms a WatchMate Monitor to allow you to escort one or more residents through a protected area without triggering an alarm. The Escort Key can also be used to clear an alarm. Note: The ID and MR Monitor must be configured to use an Escort Key. Ask your Authorized Dealer for assistance. Escorting Residents 1 Enter the protected area. If the resident is with you make sure that the door is closed or an alarm will result. 2 Press the button on the Escort Key once (the green light will flash to indicate that the Escort Key is operating). Caution: Once the protected area has been temporarily disarmed, other monitored residents may pass through undetected. The Escort Key should only be used when exits are under continuous staff supervision. 3 Check that the Monitor has disarmed: A ID or MR Monitor The Monitor display will show the disarm time remaining (in seconds), as in the example below. DISARMED TEMPORARILY FOR: 020 ? FOR HELP Note: The disarm time is a configurable setting on the Monitor, and is typically 20 seconds. Ask your facility director for the actual disarm times of the Monitors in your facility. B LC Monitor The yellow LED on the Monitor will activate. You have 20 seconds to escort the resident(s) through the protected area before the Monitor rearms. 4 You may now escort the resident through the protected area. Figure 1: The Escort Key Clearing an Alarm 1 Investigate the cause of the alarm. Locate the resident and make sure he or she is safe. 2 Escort all monitored residents away from the protected area. 3 While inside the protected area, press the button on the Escort Key to clear the alarm. The Monitor will automatically rearm. Low Battery Indication The Watchlet low battery alert feature in the Monitor can be used to provide early warning of falling battery power in the Escort Key. 1 Enter the protected area, and press and hold the button on the Escort Key. 2 If the Escort Key has a low battery: the ID or MR Monitor displays the message Tx: Low Batt, and the LC Monitor emits an intermittent beeping sound. The Escort Key may continue to work for some time with a low battery. The battery cannot be replaced. To order a replacement Escort Key, contact your Authorized Dealer. Limitation of Liability This Product has been designed for use to reduce the risk of resident wandering through remote detection. The range, accuracy, function and performance of this Product may vary from the published specifications due to many factors, including, without limitation, site impairments from structural effects, metal objects in the vicinity, placement of the receiver and transmitter, interference from other electrical devices, atmospheric effects, installation, and maintenance. There may be other factors, which also affect performance of this Product. Instantel does not guarantee that this Product will detect 100% of resident wanderings. Instantel does not guarantee that this Product will not return false reports of resident wandering. Weekly testing and maintenance of this Product, as described in the Product documentation, is essential to verify the system is operating correctly and to ensure that the probability of detecting an alarm and/or locating the transmitter are maximized. The failure to undertake regular testing and maintenance will increase the risk of system failure and failure to detect resident wandering. Instantel’s liability to you or anyone claiming through or on behalf of you with respect to any claim or loss arising out of the use or misuse of Instantel’s Product, defective products or materials, improper installation or maintenance of Instantel’s Product or products or the system in which they are incorporated, or alleged to have resulted from an act or omission of Instantel or any person, negligent or otherwise, shall be limited to: A) the repair or replacement of defective Product or materials supplied by Instantel during the warranty period as set out in the Product documentation; or, at the option of Instantel, B) refund of the purchase price of the Product supplied by Instantel.
