Instructions for the Hugs® Tag
Introduction
Attaching the Tag
• Tag wiggles, but won’t rotate easily.
The Hugs® is part of the Hugs infant protection system. The tag is attached to the
infant using a tamper-proof strap. From
the moment of attachment, the infant is
automatically enrolled in the system, and
protected against abduction.
The Hugs tag incorporates a special sensor
to detect if the strap is cut. In addition,
attempting to remove the infant without
authorization from the protected area will
immediately cause an alarm.
With optional with BabySense™ functionality, the Hugs tag can also detect when it is
not securely attached to the infant.
The Hugs tag may also be used with the
optional Kisses® mother/infant matching
component of the Hugs system to confirm
that the correct infant is matched with the
correct mother. The Hugs tag automatically emits an audible beep to indicate an
incorrect match.
• Back of tag and strap are touching
the baby’s skin.
• Tag has Auto Admitted in the Hugs
system software.
Cleaning the Tag
1 Align strap with tag slot.
2 Make sure “This side out” is on the
outside.
3 Insert strap into tag slot starting
from bottom of tag.
4 Pull through until the brown
material extends beyond the slot.
The tag is water proof which allows bathing
of the infant. It is also resistant to soiling
and UV light.
Note: The tag is not sterilized at the factory. You may wish to clean the tag prior
to first use.
Items Required
Follow these recommendations for cleaning
the tag.
• Use any standard hospital disinfectant
cleaner designed for plastics.
• Do not soak the tag or immerse it when
cleaning.
• Thoroughly rinse the tag with water
after cleaning
• Do not use an autoclave to clean the tag
or serious damage may result.
Battery Status Information
The Hugs system software automatically
displays a Low Battery notification if the
Hugs tag enters a low battery state during
use. However, depending on conditions, the
battery may expire between uses.
The Hugs tag is reusable, and does not
interfere with other hospital or personal
medical equipment.
The patented asymmetrical shape of the tag
ensures that it does not pinch or irritate the
baby’s skin, and also helps prevent it from
being kicked off, while still allowing the
ankle joint to move freely.
Check the following:
1 Wrap tag around baby’s ankle, and
insert loose end of strap into second
tag slot.
2 Pull strap through, and listen for
the battery status chime (two short
beeps). Check that the tag is snug
and won’t rotate. The bottom
(black) side of the tag and the strap
must be firmly in contact with the
baby’s skin.
3 Trim both ends of strap.
If you do not hear the battery status chime
(two short beeps) during tag attachment,
immediately dispose of the tag and attach
a new tag to the infant.
The front of the Hugs tag shows the warranty expiration date. The tag may have
many months of use after this date, but
you should exercise caution when using a
tag out of warranty. Always listen for the
battery status chime, and check that the
tag has Auto Admitted in the Hugs system
software.
